Decided to start part 2. Part 1 got locked at my request, it was going no where. This time is final, and a tribute to my car...
This will mostly be a journal. Not a how to. No where else to keep records. You are welcome to ask questions. No 2gr info here, there is a separate thread...
This car has not been driven in 8 months, it has been used as a parts car, for the mr2, and the previous celica sold. Unfortunately, because of this, its getting new parts, or parts are getting blasted and painted.
The car currently is a sad vision, 7 years of use, last 3 of neglect...
few pics of current condition... ( no wipers, no knuckles, no seats, no steering, etc, etc, etc...)
DSCN1313
DSCN1308
DSCN1310
holes left from removing things..
DSCN1312
the knukcles ive got, are rusted....
DSCN1311
Most recently decided to pull all the wiring, for the cruise control. I will never use it so...
E3C0FF98
it was sent away
EED8DDA9
while i was there...
1FDA2065
then..
B483D95E
over the next few weeks will bring it back to life again.....
aaaaaaand in the trash. I always enjoy the humor in your posts.
lol. i cant help it. Im working this week, but managed to put 2 hours in the car....
removed AC unit, and finished removing brown wire that feeds the cruise ecu at 16 pin.
DSCN1355
while i was there cleaned the a/c evaporator, and sprayed lysol....
DSCN1354
whipped out some flex tubing in various sizing, what is that? it looks like this...
DSCN1356
and then started to do the rewiring process, and halfway done there. I have to admit, its hard, but the results are great.
DSCN1357
i have some wiring upgrades to make to the other side, since there is no cruise control, now i have a stalk, and 4 empty slots at the clock spring. So I may replicate Daniels, radio controls...
looks like quite a mess but I have faith in you berto. You never cease to amaze us all.
That's some serious dedication to weight reduction.
Excellent Man. Please post as much details as you can. posts like these are treasures.
wiring is a tedious process.
created a small harness of 5 wires...
DSCN1358
to use in the cruise control plug, to take advantage of the clockspring..
DSCN1359
looks now like this...
DSCN1360
then proceeded to rewire the harness again...
DSCN1363
and almost done for exception of the steering column...
DSCN1361
and here is my harness that comes from the cruise plug. it exits with the ac control plugs...
DSCN1362
dont know what ill use this for, maybe audio controls from the steering wheel. they are there as option...
and all this just took 5 hours, of soldering and taping...
good work dude
awesome Berto!
thanks guys. I know its nothing to be proud, but i need to really clean this wires, and stuff i undid in the past. This is the last time i mess with my car....
today i finished the steering colum
DSCN1366
reinstalled the dash frame, and wired the amp wire on top of it to the center. i got tired of hitting it...
DSCN1367
im doing jdm fenders, so i figured i had to mess with this...
DSCN1368
all said and done.. Relocated the amp wire and tucked it under the fender, rewrapped the harness, after i had it all a mess. and it looks like this...
DSCN1370
moving onto the dash.., nothing too serious, just need to professinally tuck the harnesses for the jdm power mirros. those are hanging on the sides....
DSCN1371
once i install the drive by wire pedal, and plug some holes, i will be reinstalling the dash again, for it never to come out.... (crosses fingers) ....
You are going all out on this car. I am jealous and impressed. Come do mine next!
Lol... No! I know youll do the same. Need to finish this car so i can move on. Cant keep modding it forever...
need to see some progress on that RA man.... hahaha.
let me finish this one...
so few things, i had lined up.. prettier TRD cover, its legit, but not sure real CF
DSCN1380
and finally finished the pedal, (discussed in the 2grfe swap section), pain in the ass to make
DSCN1378
most of the inner wiring has been done, and its finished..
DSCN1381
just a few details here and there and boom... FRS Seats!!!
034150A6
thats a nice looking seat, what is it?
No center tach?
Any updates, or just looking into the PS and A/C lines?
well not that many, since working on the swap delayed me a lot. little here and there.
Since the FRS seats dont fit, got a steamer finally to steam the foam and rejuvenate it, and wrap the oem seats in leather...
DSCN1364
however, the stupid leather upper covers dont fit, they have somehow shrunk....
made a custom line for low pressure power steering. more info on the swap...
DSCN1469
cleaned the subframe
DSCN1463
and painted it...
DSCN1473
painted the power steering rack.
DSCN1464
and trying to hack some enlinks for the front.
DSCN1472
cant do the engine wiring because i dont have a spcific plug, and it sucks.. so im just doing bits here and there..
What did you do with those cruise control wires? I wouldve bought them
ok just in case you are watching tonight.
Time to step away from the swap, and tinker the car....
opened the boxes that are accumulating dust in corners..
DSCN1516
DSCN1518
Nailed it!!!
DSCN1519
second time around, this time, easy!
DSCN1517
mounted on a clean and painted subframe....
DSCN1520
and a freshly painted rack...
DSCN1524
will tray to update more tomorrow....
i need to clean those boots.... lol
That looks amazing man. I tried to paint a subframe as well but made the mistake of using por 15 in roll-on form. Next time I'll just use the eastwood stuff
Looks great Berto.
It gets easier every time
I wish I lived in your neighborhood! Excellent work as ususal
few last things, buttoning up the year..

DSCN1528
DSCN1525
i decided not to plate but to paint these..
DSCN1526
DSCN1527
slapped the st205 cables...
DSCN1530
and buttoned up the engine and the subframe..
DSCN1534
Looking good! Can't wait for it to be finished!
I just cut a bolt i had . Nothing is done to the end-links or the bolts it came
Now I can't wait for next year, looking really good
few more things, im flip flopping now to interior, I was bored of working in the engine...
i got rid of the dreared big willie.
Used a brake from a 2001 celica...
DSCN1556
extensive modifications, and it is nice looking..
DSCN1560
DSCN1558
I spent some time cleaning the car, and cleaning the interior, cleaned the carpet...
DSCN1557
it was all dusty, and also going to be old school again, i cannot ever get satisfied with an aftermarket stereo... So i whipped this....
DSCN1559
Untested, from the yard, its a 6 disc, and i will use a blue tooth adapter or something, i dont know, lol....
update 9/24/17 sold the radio....
lovely find on the Stereo. Old School is always reliable!!
Which car/truck this came out of if you don't mind me asking?
four runner. took the amp as well, but i cut the wires, and later i regretted.
that is nice one. You don't find those any more. Most of them are one piece with green screen.
With the 7gc e-brake, was it modifying the plastic trim on it to get it to work or did you have to do more?
I was looking at some 5th gens earlier and it seemed their handbrake was shorter as well. I guess for whatever reason they decided the 6th gen's should be ginormous.
i did not take pics of the process, i figured no one would be interested. Significant amount of welding is required...
I extended the tube that holds the screw, and the curve at the bottome that holds the cable. also had to modify both legs, extend on peg by 1 cm, and completely move a leg.
had some fun blasting and painting a few parts here and there...

DSCN1566
DSCN1567
even the wires for the seats lol
DSCN1561
good job as always berto
I always hated putting those axles back together, have fun.
Are those from your seats ?
hahahah, yes they are the wires in the seats, i kept wondering whos going to ask... they were so badly rusted, that i decided to clean them up.
I had to rebuild the axles, as they were north axles, with a lot of rust.
awesome stuff!
decided to skip the whole shabang, and just in case you are listening..
new tierods, wheelbearing, lower ball joint, and no more rust. The red, is stainless steel brake lines...
48CB1F6A
sexy. You always do clean work man, keep it up
Thnks. There were more pics. But 1 posted tell more words...
good stuff as per usual!
when i do the other hub, ill place pics...
I think I need to drop my Supra off at your house for about 6 months. I need some shiny new suspension parts too! It's strange to see such a familiar looking suspension setup but so shiny and painted, not all rusty and worn like mine...
Tell me about it Daniel....
Great work as usual 'Berto!
So I just wrapped up a water pump job on a 2GR Avalon today, I'm pretty sure you'll need to remove your engine to do the water pump in your car if you ever need to. It's pretty tight, there's some bolts that don't even come out all the way, you have to just tilt things and raise the engine a little and even then it's hard. It all fits but it's real skin of the teeth stuff.
surprisingly no, there is not mount there. There was, it came with, but im not using it. yes its very tight. but it can be taken out with some technique. I have not done anything to the car, the cold temperatures, makes me not want to work. LOL.
but winter is supposed to be build season
haha, i know, but I just need to build up courage, to work on it, and frankly the hart part is done, but too many frustrations on the little things here and there.... and then i just, go inside, and then i have to work...
Liking it!
pressed the other bearing..

if you can make those stupid brakes work....
do you dislike using the press as much as I do? Readjusting things a million times is always such a pain..
yea its a pain, however without it. so many things, u cant get done without it.....
BUMP!
I hope things are still coming along
So after an absence in the garage. after freaking back surgery, Good weather. Went back and revised what was missing for this badboy to run.
If it does not exist. Make it. So there is no low pressure line that will fit. So i finished the line i needed.
682B00E3
So it looks pretty. Need to wait to dry!!!
485168FC
After which i decided to finish up the custom high pressure ps line.

Awesome! Glad to see you get back to work on this!
Small update.
Fuel lines aned regulator is in
4B0D71B7
Wooo!!!! About how much more until you can at least start it up?
so close Noberto! keep going at it.
Looks great Noberto! Makes me wish I hadn't just killed mine.
Again.
i saw that. im going slow, in this one, im trying to get the te31 running quick, plus, in no rush, i have no brakes in this car. some days off are coming maybe ill get it started
I just meant getting it turned over so you can rev it some to annoy the neighbours.
scored this from the yard...
1196A7E8
no holes, just have to repaint...
oh and i updated the swap thread.
I'm waiting impatiently for in-car videos of this engine
very soon, very soon.
figured out the brake issue, got a toy to play with...

But i needed somewhere yo seat
73B9A2F3
Love those floor mats, wish I could find a set. The 7th gen seats and the door sills work well with the interior. Very nice
mr2 seats....
FYI, apparantly your celi went global.
thailand group loves it. lol
lol, nice, if they only knew its not running for like 1 year now... lol. its nice to know someone likes it..
waiting on the brakes, lol, waiting on brakes.
im also doing the Richee fenders, and ditching the jdm. i dont have pics, but soon ill post. some.
Shaved looks a lot better in my opinion, but JDM fenders are a nice touch regardless!
Finally the gods are looking upon me... yeah right.. decided not to use the gt4 brakes at all, too complicated, and now i have drilled supra rotors to play frisbee
D1CB1EC8
777129B8

Of course i hate to rebuild. But what can i do. I needed all the hardware. Boy you guys up north need to do preventive treatment before these things seize.

then i proceded to organize the wiring to clear the hood...
5B2DC38D
and to modify the hood.. see the sensor. peekaboo...
8CBA697C
ooooo
i need a solution for the oil cap, it cant be there.. cant close hood
A cap that's flat and is knobbed like a water spicket would work, I think that's how the one on the 7A was. Perhaps it or another like it would have the right threading.
Could try one off a 5s as well. It's not nearly as tall as that.
Worst case scenario, get some hood spacers where the hood bolts to the hinges and bump that b!tch up hahaha
can you tell me what didn't fit with the FRS seats? They just wouldn't fit in place because of the shoulders?
Ur a beast berto
getting there Noberto! it's gonna be one sweet ride.
Lol thats funny. Never tought they would exist. But the hood would look funny. IMO. Ive tought about relocating the oil cap. Ive searched for slim caps. You name it. Someday an idea will pop...
hood scoop.
here are the clearance pics. from the front...
3BE49B84
and from the back....
6A34191F
here is the cam sensor...
69AD28B4
so im going to get some spacers, and see what happens.
Talk about tight clearances. Probably the best thing to do then would be to take some firm enough rubber that's oil resistant etc and make a plug/stopper.
I think hood spacers look retarded. And thse are only 3/4 inch and expensive at local harware store. Black chrome.
434A7E1D
03CD5CA1
And the end look i dont like
FD1E97F3
BCEA1530
Happen to just find them at ace harware.
Worst of all clearance.
CB24F6AD
Was only improved marginally
is it hitting the bracing of the hood or the top part of the hood?
I know it's not ideal, but would cutting into the bracing help?
I was just about to say cut out the bracing then tack weld the bracing back down.
Put up a pic of where it's hitting under the hood please sir.
and I know it's a tight fit but does the hood close with no cap ? or no close without damage ?
I rather cut and retack bracing than have to deal with hood spacers, at least when it's all said and done it really won't be glaringly obvious the bracing was cut in a few small spots.
You really don't need the bracing, especially if nothing is ever going to be sitting on top of it, like snow or people.
Plus cutting out such small sections and tacking the bracing back down it probably won't make any difference at all to the overall structure of the hood anyway.
Then he'll have a limp hood, and that's not good for anyone.
yeah he probably may. the bracing is there for a reason.
1. hood crumple zones in the case of an accident. Itd be better to have it crumple than blade through the windshield (unlikely tho)
2. its an aluminum hood any if he removes itll basically be aluminum foil
form a small dimple dome in the hood just for the oil cap.
uber custom. best option? but it may look a little odd
The bracing is there for a reason, steel hoods with removed bracing are flimsy enough much less aluminum. When I went from the standard Firebird hood to the shaker hood it was like, oh this is fairly solid to hey look I can flex it by hand... and it still has the bracing except for what was cut out for the shaker. Of course the shaker hoods are notorious for popping the seam filler used to hold the bracing to the hood skin, if I end up keeping it I'll re-adhere it before painting.
just an idea, although a lot of money. what about a carbon hood? i don't think there is bracing under those
If there is bracing in the way then F the bracing.
Stop being a bunch of nancies.
Can you snap a pic of exactly where under the hood it's hitting ?
Stop it.... Lol... Whats done its done.....
Got a oil cap from fleabay

the sticker makes me sad but everything else looks good.
need to paint the fenders. im sad. but what can i do.
so i took a gamble, before i get a new alternator, i found this company that sells just the regulator. Toyota does not make this a replaceable part.
B993A145
it was such a pain, that my bay looked like this...
3B956B30
radiator has to come out!
also...
B164390C
it may look good, but the orange peel!! ugh...
Looks good from the picture at least. Have you colour sanded and buffed it out yet?
No
Looks awesome Berto! I can't wait to see this thing in person.
well alternator crapped out. had to order another one... voltage fluctuates, battery does not charge. bummer
yikes, that's a lot of distuff assembly for just an alternator
Yup... Again. Ugg. Alternator comes on the 4th. This may not make the meet
Tow it.
He does have the Tundra now, totally feasible option.
Alternator fixed!! Got a rav4 alt. It works. And figured out why!!
You weren't holding your mouth right before?
stupidity got the best of me. I kinda assumed that all 2gr alternators are the same. and not!!!
it's a learning journey being one of the first to go 2gr.
yup. I just have to clear the airbag code, and will be left only with check engine...
Im going to do a rear seat delete soon....
Going to do a half-cage?
i have the parts at home. unfortunately it would mean rear seat delete. I will base it of the hard dog for the MR2. I just have to get some time off...
Awesome, should help stiffen the chassis and make it safer all at the same time. I look forward to some autocross and/or some track day vids.
freshly painted wiper arms, and new toys...
036AB6F2
176E920C
Clutch slave and a sticker, good times.
What did you choose for those spherical bearings. I've been thinking of replacing the rubber bushings. Also, isn't prime awesome??
my shifting sucks, so i have decided to try anything, even going to a regular shifter. The bushing from prime was 18 bucks, and the bearings where 45. worth a try. if not then must be the cables, need lube? im tired of having to fight to shift..
oh and the slave, was worth a try, because i have a regular s54 slave.. so will see.
prime is awesome. at one point in time i may change the bearing, but that is a long story
Perhaps could get someone to move the shift selector through the gears while you look under the car, see if it's binding anywhere.
What cables are you using ?
ST 205 cables,
to solve the shifter cables from hitting the header, i did it by trying to move the cable to the side with this...
13FAB43F
and then covering with shielding covers.. up to 3000 heat...
3CC7C988
The cable is not compressed is loose, so this would not be a reason to bind, assuming cables need lube? and other stuff.
finished and painted gt4 hood...
55508790
4E44842A
an extra trunk lid is always very good....
2777459C
Looking good.
Fiberglass decklid?
Spare decklid. Im stripping rattle can job. To paint black. This one has no holes made by me
Hood came out great minus the runs
Ah ok, guess that's seran wrap and rust. Was going to say the hood and fender look good on the car.
just ordered a replacement ECU. Will have this ECU modified to increase the rev to 7200 and remove all transmission DTC and Evap codes!!!!
Nice! So, no check engine lights?
Thats the plan
If you follow this thread. Shifting has improved...

Amazing how one little part can make all the difference.
That tach adapter is primarily for engine swaps right? My tachometer is broken, and I'm looking to take it apart and diagnose the problem soon. From some online research, it seems like the problem should be solved by just replacing the internal capacitors, but that digital adapter seems interesting (although pretty expensive). I understand that you solved a different problem when working on your tach, but since you had it taken all apart and everything, do you know if the capacitors inside the tach are a common failure point? I apologize if this question isn't relevant to your build, you obviously know a lot about these cars so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Just trying to do the job right the first time I remove the gauge cluster from my car.
We have brass ones in Stacy's car... They made a world of difference.
Get a clusteter from the yard. Or ebay for about 50 bucks
I have a tach that's just sitting around.....
mjcoury@gmail.com
Is the inside of the cluster modular like it is with the Corolla? In that cluster the speedo and tach are like whole units that just bolt into the carrier and circuit board.
good project
Thanks. Unfortunately 2gr never picked up as a swap
Cost is the main factor.
Even with the MR2 guys, there aren't many.
Stef and I have done 3 2gr swaps in MR2s, they are not cheap but hella fun to drive.
Super fun to drive
well i decided to update the thread, in the last year, will put a summary of what happened.
GT4 hood is no more, i still have it, in storage but is toasted. forgot to lock it, and had no hook at the time...
then decided to do something very stupid...
cut the OEM hood, did not look nice, looked like a civic.. It did not clear the engine, so i winged it...
Took the car to an autocross, event. Made Second place..... woot woot. Only 2 cars in FWD
Found a second replacement hood... cut the bracing and rewelded it. it was loose....
It made the hood wavy, but oh well, it works....
Then i got bored and removed some rare things to sell.... lol.
rally lamp, sold....
Con Light... I gave it away...
Alarm system, well, its there collecting dust, and i dont regret it...
Then sent the car to be retinted before a big step..
Welded in a Custom Roll bar, and deleted the rear seats...
Then decided to protect the engine.... Moroso oil pain, very expensive....
And then i created version 2 of the pedal bracket, to adjust the height...
still needs to be a version 3... but ill get there...
lastly the most anticipated event... the Modified ECu, No more check engine light....
I still have the second ECU as a spare.... But this ecu makes driving better by increasing redline...
The day i hounded facebook, and made Mike Thoma Upset!!! Tag Him!!!
Put in new brake pads....
And Added Toyos R888, wrapping enkei wheels,
Took the car to the first track day, a humbling experience. I dont know how to drive it, and needs more tweaking... lol...
Unfortunately keep the car in storage, as i dont want the sun to damage the top and water get in the car, and etc. Why, because I care.... and also
this behemoth is taking up its space...
coming together really well now. get some more track time and you can only improve from there.
LOL at the honda hood.
and is that ur new DD? looks comfy and fun.
An SC?!
That's going to take a lot of $$$ to modify into a proper sports car... lol
Lol. Not mine. I have a 16 y/o that drives. Needed to get a tank
you know what cars are tanks? 6gc's.
ask Chris, he would know. he drives them like tanks.
but should be good for her then. always scary to get them on the road but if you taught her then no worries. lol
Hey, let's get one thing straight....
Things drive into me. I can't help that.
ON TOPIC: I can't believe she's 16 already. For some reason, she never made it past 9 in my head....
Lol... off to college in 2 years. Time flies. Enjoy the most you can... after college more money for car parrs.... yeah!
You should of cut and welded the hood section from an late spec eclipse...
no, then it wont look like a celica. i tought about it, but no.
That roll bar looks so good! Really liking this build
will work on the car fixing a few things here and there....
i was able to take the valve cover off today, to get it prepped....
after a dremel clean... and simple green..
read somewhere is better to prime them...
to get the best wrinkle and uniform effect, im trying to use my heat lamp. plus is very cold now....
BAKING COOKIES...
IM thinking to do some reorganizing to that harness and ditch the oem plastic....
engine is purty clean...
It's always nice to pull the valve cover off and see clean insides.
well, finished the job today, did not have time to upload pics before coming to work. and in the floor, Transmission oil, went out to she the parking spot in the driveway and sure enough, transmission oil.... Shiite.. guess im going to park it for a few days unless is something simple, I was daily driving it...
ordered some parts to fix it from prime driven
that sucks to hear. hope you can get it fixed up soon. and it's nice to hear you daily driving it. i'm sure it's too much fun not to. haha
Where's it leaking from? Cooler lines?
im thinking the filler plug or the axle seals, ive ordered new ones from primedriven. However there is a spot in the transmission, where the sealant seems cracked, i hate to crack the transmission just to reseal it.
why do we keep spending on these cars.....
Pics of the gasket and new spark plug seals...
and finished product....
i still need to deshine a few things.. and use a few products that i have available...
Looking good.
I feel like these chassis have never got the attention it deserved.
Ive seen many featured cars on various tuner magazines front page covers. But have you ever seen a celica of 6th or 7th gen chassis on the front page?
The chassis is very capable as are corolla from the 90s as seen on best motoring videos. But people here are so strung up on mainstream cars they wouldnt think a celica is even worth tuning.
Perhaps we think throwing a lot of money at it will get us recognized?
Anyway. You should have featured car here on 6gc. We havent had one in a while. But at same time photobucket destroyed that quirk as well
No i would not like my car featured. Im fine as is. Less attention it gets, better. Unfortunately this chassis, does not get attention because most people that get it, are for transport purposes, and when the idea of swap comes, it comes down like a high speed slide, to the bottom of the pool.
I see a lot of builds, people spending a lot of money up to 10 grand, tuning their 3sgte, and its a great engine, but unless you know what you are doing, you are never happy and then failed projects get sold or traded...
they start with a cheap price in mind, and at the end of the day they have invested so much money, its ridiculous..
A V6 swap, is what these cars need. If you can afford a 2GR, the better. Trust me, im happy. Its very functional, enough power, and it scares me. The initial cost is probably high, but thats it. No tuning. And best of all no scavenging the internet for parts, or waiting for overnight parts from japan. Parts are here...locally...
I seriously tought more people will join in the 2Gr venture, but unfortunately the 3 guys I know, that have the engine, did not continue with the swap or never started...
They need to feel the power and torque, its amazing. No lag, spin wheels in third gear, and best of all these idle at 500 rpm, lol. which is very weird.
maybe one day i will see another 2gr completed... But as it is right now, most people want the 3S, and when the GT4 arrives to the USA, seriously doubt they will take the 3s out.... And I dont blame them.
The only way to get the car recognized is to put the car in a movie. Maybe my car can be in fast and the furious 25, Starring Box as Square Pants Disel
I'm sorry to have disappointed you Noberto. Maybe one day I'll get a pre-96, and do something with it, but right now, with the baby, it's something I just can't do.
I do hope to ride in your car this coming summer, maybe that will be motivation enough!
I think the ST-205 and ST-202 being viable for import soon is kind of killing swapping for anyone that likes the 6th gen Celica. Like you said why bother swapping when you can just import a car already done. As to why it doesn't get recognition is beyond me, yet anything Honda is lavished with support and aftermarket parts. Which if you think about it any FWD car from Nissan and Mazda has the same problem, even though cars like the NX2000 and MX-3 were some of the best FWD cars for their time.
2GR Supra, I'm feeling it.
Just think of all the weight you'd pull off the front though, using a longitudinal 2GR from a RWD car it should be possible.
2grfse is for RWD vehicles. its much better from what i hear
NOOOOO! my v6!!!
SOMEBODY come get this ****! At this point, I really don't care who...
I would but I think someone else here already has dibs on one of them.
I have a 3mz if you want...
ok so one of the things that i hate about this swap, is the space. there is none...
my leak ended up being power steering fluid, did not realize that until too late... i drove the car 15 seconds into the garage with out it, and the pump screeches even with new fluid. the leak was fixed, but the pump needs replace...
so i ordered a new pump on fleabay, and it came dirty as crap..,,, after washing it looked better...
of course me thinking it was going to be a 2 hour job, after the mess i made with ps oil, and unable to reach 1 bolt. realized that i needed to lower the engine.... sucks....
maybe time to modify the mount...
i cannot even reach from this top part.... but there is more space....
ill try again tomorrow, im concerned ill need to drop the subframe a few inches too, this will let me reroute the lower pressure hose.....
Such a pain.
it really is.... but it is what it is....
Are you able to access the rear bank for spark plug replacement? Or will this be another thing where you'll need to drop the engine a little to get to them?
I'm sure it's worth it, but man... What a pain in the ass.
yes but its a tight space. thats why the plugs are changed when the clutch needs change..... lol
so after 6 hours of several finnagles, and cussing....
able to get it out..
used a 1/4 socket, with medium size 14mm, to finally loosen second bolt.
then droped subframe 1/4 inch, also disconnected the sway bar, and also tie rod, and moved steering to left. to finally get it out....
.
I had forgotten how tight it was.... lol.. next to put it back together.....
2 hours to install a dam ps pump.... im off tomorrow, hope to button it up
Huzzah! Now just never let this one dye.
Beyond the maintenance, is there a next step for the car?
get it all set and hopefully won't have to touch the engine for a longgggg time. haha.
thats the plan, next stop is Air conditioning..
I like the shrink tube idea...
That PS line came out great! I don't have the patience for things like that.
im stuck with bleeding the air on the ps system...
Tried having the nose of the car lifted while turning the wheel lock to lock, and the engine off, topping it off as needed?
been there done that, keeps sucking air.. lol im starting to belive something else was damaged
Buen trabajo!
in the spirit of keeping this thing alive, and want to drive it to the fullest...
yesterday spend 3 hours dropping the subframe, to install a new steering rack... we will see how long this one lasts.
all my problems started after a track day. the rear header probably cooked it, or it was my fault for not properly diagnosing the leak.
DSCN1764
that subframe has to weigh at least 50 pounds...
DSCN1763
Well at least with everything being new it should work again.
did not take many pictures out of this one, but the steering rack came out, and a new one (from a yard went in)
DSCN1765
of course i decided to update the hoses, as i reused old hoses.. Got some new ones from dealer top portion is from a Highlander and bottom portion from a celica
DSCN1773
did the right thing....
DSCN1774
new hoses, and new thermostat, and other goodies. While the car was down.
DSCN1772
the main thing is to swap to a compressor of a 1grfe, the one on the left, after a year and a half, i miss a/c
DSCN1768
and of course remove all the unnecessary wiring that was left because i was lazy
DSCN1771
had a lot of trouble to get the air out of the power steering system, but i found the vacuum leak, and it was fixed. The ps lines were flushed, air was removed, and the car was put back together and sent for alignment.
it drives better now..
Still love how clean the crinkle black on the valve covers just completes the look of the bay.
thanks
and yes i will get rid of the red cables, lol, and the shiny intake...
Don't need A/C in a racecar convertible, weight reduction.
^ I'm with box, no need for a/c
you've got a vert, just put the top down.
hey, i already bought the gauges, to do it myself, with the vacuum pump. Yay
bump.
iva done lot of work to it lately, but updating the thread is more of a chore now, kinda like a monologue....
working on getting a/c working
I thought you were leaving the A/C off? Because it's a 'vert?
Monolouge away!
Wait, let me get your soapbox for you, then you can start.
Lol.... nah im ok. Im happy being 1 out of 2 2gr swaps.
hey hey, you got like at least 4 people here willing to listen... 5 if you include Box.
you should be glad. Humans are miserable loathsome creatures.
Im gonna swap a beams, maybe i can get traffic here!!!
No, these days you learn how to do BEAMS swaps on Facebook.
LS4 swap it, get all the traffic.
traffic is a bitch... i hate being stuck in traffic.
anywhoo Daniel is right. Beams only works on facebook because all the info is provided on there through vaguely constructed questions such as: "hey guys, how do you swap a beams?" or "does a 3sge beams fit in my gt?" or the ever pondering "what iz beams?"
Refried BEAMS.
Lol..... he deleted the beams post on faisbuk
I've been seriously considering leaving all the FB celica groups. I hate people.
see, i type beams, and this page gets traffic...
Narly, faisbuk groups suck, too many idiots promoting **** information. Its not even a joke, ask the same question 6 times a day. the awd tranny can be used as fwd if its plugged...
omg,
I don't use facebook because I'm too nice and spoon feed people, it's a method of self preservation.
will update some... for cheela....
couple days ago worked on getting the a/c lines sorted out. because there is too much heat in the bay needed to protect the lines...
DSCN1779
DSCN1782
DSCN1780
it also helps against rubbing with other parts. My first test with alum mig welding. I have yet to test the pressure...
DSCN1781
you cant really tell in the pic, but i have the ac lines connected, i just need to charge it..
DSCN1783
Using a 4 runner a/c compressor...
installed all new seals...
DSCN1801
and a new a/c drier
DSCN1802
Continued with cleaning the harness...
DSCN1784
DSCN1785
DSCN1812
Had to remove the intake to make some space to work..
DSCN1814
DSCN1815
it was hard, but it looks much better, after removed the oem garbage plastics...
DSCN1816
for got to post the diferrences between both a/c compressors...
DSCN1768
DSCN1769
in the interior of the car, i did something i should have done ages ago, got rid of the airbag light... Batman sent me an ecu....
DSCN1798
i still have to work on the harness in the inside, im removing unwanted wiring, and i need to wire one adittional step, to finally get rid of the engine check light...
DSCN1813
also, i have temporarily removed the trd short shifter. It shifts much better now...
DSCN1800
had some old rollbars, that where blasted and cleaned....
DSCN1787
decided to work on my rollbar, and i think it looks much more complete...
first i welded more plates..
DSCN1786
DSCN1810
after some welding time....
DSCN1809
DSCN1811
i have to get them painted to complete the look, and it also reinforces the bar as well
ooooo forgot
i got this from prime.....
DSCN1803
quarter inch extended slave cylinder rod, and of course new tranny gaskets.... the rod and the normal shifter, makes shifting the 2gr much better... it was a poor choice of clutch.
First, you give so little, now you give so much!!?!
The a/c is coming along now. soon you can have the top up and leather seats freezing cold!
Engine bay is looking cleaner, those red wires though...
and what's going on with the top of your bar, looks like you rolled it once already? lol
Do you have an ACT clutch in the car?
That was the only time we needed an extended slave cylinder rod. I HATED that clutch.
There was a guy on ToyotaNation looking to swap a 2GR into a Gen4 Camry. I sent him your way. He decided not to do the swap. What's up with that???
I had ACT clutch, the stock level one, in my 5SFE Camry mated to a Fidanza FW - I don't know why, but I would always smell clutch after some city driving, and the thing wore down in like 15k miles. Odd. I don't think I'm that bad at driving shtik.
which i dont get, because engine prices are lower now, and the swap can be had for almost same price if not less than a 3sgte. Sure people like turbos, but the 270hp on a fwd sucks. but i guess this is one of those things that will never catch in the car community.
beams is catching up several years later
I think it won't catch on because it's not a 100% drop in.
Kids aren't going to like the idea of having to notch the framerail or cut up some of their hood structure just to get it to physically fit.
Not to mention the fact that you're not mass producing the passenger engine mount. Everyone wants it all done for them... You ought to know that by now.
well kids do it all the time on the civics, with their v6 swaps. but you are right. This swap is not meant for kids...
LOL
I love that!
Well, for the cost of a decent Celica GT and the 2GR and everything involved in swapping you can get a 350Z now... Only reason Honda kids are doing it is in comparison it's marginally cheaper and easier, that and the Civic to Celica aftermarket support in general. Just think on the positive, keeps your car unique.
Welp, the appeal of the 6gc, to me at least, has always been the rally heritage and the dreams of 4WD conversion. Neither is the case with 2GR or even 1MZ, so kinda rules those 2 out for me personally.
As for others, more may follow once the path has been beaten in a bit more, as it's always more difficult for the first few guys. 3S swaps are far more documented and easier still. If you step back though, there aren't a whole lot of swap happening in general these days. Still waiting for the platform to re-surge in popularity, I guess.
Should be able to import ST202 and ST205 here soon, any late '93 produced '94 models. I imagine once the ST205 starts getting imported that'll help re-spark interest in the car.
Kijiji, it's like the Canadian Craigslist. Also check out the Canadian AutoTrader and eBay Motors.
i like the car being unique in a certain way. In other news, i may have messed up the wiring, or time for a new MAF, i have not had change to look into
heres an update. I tried recharging my A/C, it was going well, until i realized oil goes first. Well the compressor seized..
I had to order a kit to flush lines, and new compressor and condenser. LOL, it sucks.
This is why you always read instructions!
Well that sounds like an expensive mistake. but then again maybe owning a celica and doing anything to it is an expensive mistake in and of itself. hahaha. *sad*
200 bux, so far in parts. and then the bruised knucles.
Bruised knuckles are always included in the cost. Well, for me anyway.
yup. If you don't pay in cash, you pay in blood. sometimes both. lol
Either is gas or azz, no free rides...
anyways, took out the condenser, it was a pain in the ass, no visible metal strips, but im putting a new one any ways...
the most difficult task was to remove all ac lines. forgot how difficult it was to maneuver around the 2GR.
Installed the new condenser, not happy with fitment
hate aftermarket parts....
poor clearance
Most likely will use the OEM brackets, as they seem to have more clearance.
Not paying 300 usd for OEM condenser on a 20 yo car...
Next is to flush the lines one by one, they have debris, and oil.....
Booo aftermarket fitment.
aftermarket is cheaper. but its got its cons, on another note, i did not realize the expansion valve is inside the cabin, well....
that only means i have to take it out.... crap... more to do for a stupid mistake.....
bump for burnout video with the ac blasting...
i think i burnt the second ac compressor, have not had time to get anything done since i Fired the contractor that was building my garage, and finished it myself. i think ill have more time in december....
I see the words burnt and fire but not the burnout update I was hoping for.
that sucks about the damn contractor. Seemed like they weren't gonna do a good job anyways so better to do that then let them finish.
yup i got power running, and moving my car collection there pretty soon. also trying to get a duck tail spoiler made pretty soon. December will be a solid month
nice! everything gonna fit in there??
Didn't I just help you get a TRD spoiler? what u doing making a duckbill already? lol
I've got two trunks buddy. Business on weekdays, and party on weekends.
Or put a lip on the front of the car with the TRD spoiler on the rear, then you can be business in the front and party in the back just like the mullet you had back in the 80's.
So, you finally had enough and fired him huh?
I guess progress never picked up?
And now im buying a gt4
Buying before they are legal, huh? Gotta get on it while prices are still low....
Nah im just trying to get more comments in my post. Seemed to work for daniel
I should probably post it on Facebook and see if I get 127 comments.
this thread is useless without pics.
lolol
Pics for cheela, he can type what happened
Looks Like a dog took a bite out of it
Must've been left over gas from your BEANS swap.
or
extreme weight reduction? who needs seat covers, saves 1/2 lb.
also, your photos are HORRIBLE. You need to hire a photographer for this thread.
also, BUMP!!
and I had a serious misfire today........................
my pictures are better than yours.
Time to sell the 2GR and swap a BEAMS.
not the kind of bump I wanted....
you were suppose to say serious turbo powa, not serious misfire.... guess it's time to go from BEAMS --> 2gr ---> 1uz. It's the only logical step.
