Thank you to all from 97cecilia can't wait to show the finished producted.
This is going to be a thread I'm follow. You planning on BARing it?
Yea it will go trough the Bureau of automotive repair its gonna be my daily driver for years to come.
Here is the link to the pictures I noticed the one uploaded from my phone did not work.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/121887123@N02/
Hopefully you fix the transmission as well, if not at least it'll be a good bit easier. I'm interested.
Can't wait for this!!
what do you mean fix the transmission? sorry I'm really new to this I noticed you guys no so much and if I would of never found this web site I wouldn't be this far on my build. I swear all you guys inspired me to do this I found so much passion for this car here that it made me spark my flame back up for my celica and now I'm going trough with it. I cant believe it
here is an update I would I have purchased so far.

Hopefully member Arsaces will sell me the KYB SHOCKS I already have first dips on the TEIN Springs yes !!!!!!
I will purchase the seat covers from Vince doggy soon. I just need to go step by step with my build,
parts I need and if anyone has some input on parts I'm missing let me know please just don't mention ABS breaks that stuff scares me I like to control my car I don't like the car controlling me lol
I need the power steering lines from a gt 2.2 6gen celica and some stock mud flaps. I payed japukspares for some but they never arrived so he refunded my money back hopefully some one out there has some stock mudflaps?
also in need of a head liner and the sunroof was custom made so I'm just going to make it a fifth glass now and remove all the mechanism and no need for it to open since it never worked for me lol
I need to pay Jeff for the 5 speed transmission and labor however since a drunk driver hit my car I had to wait for an estimator to come over and look at my car so now I'm just waiting for the check and still debating on the paint job its either white for the body and gloss black rims tinted windows not to dark don't wanna break the law and smoked out lights or flat black body with gloss black rims and tinted windows not to dark with smoked out lights pretty much ghost rider lol
Also one more thing this car will be my daily driver however I will be spending lots of time at the race way I don't like street racing to dangerous for me plus I'm to old for that already and very new to this. its just not worth it.I don't wanna be another Paul walker when you want a car to go fast take it to a track a good controlled environment is always safe and we could avoid such tragedies I feel bad for his family and kid may Paul walker rest.
Any input you guys let me know I wanna get some more ideas I'm not big on sound systems and such I'm really more worried about handling and horsepower and of course looks I hope this was a good wright up for today?
see you guys
next time my car will be painted and ready for a new heart
been a month now. Any progress?
parts are being gathered up for the swap. I need to get his 5 speed rebuilt.
He. lol.
I'm going with the S54 tranny it should be good for the swap. what do you guys think? also the only pieces I need are the mounts. Currently waiting for the car to be put back together its in the shop getting the body straighten out the chassis was bend but it was less then a inch so the frame and all should still be pretty strong, also got the new fender and door in, also the front lights and rear lights, there all stock since I wanna keep it looking stock from the outside but the inside will be a different story lol also I'll be purchasing the sunroof assembly from smaay if he still has it available but right now I'm focusing on getting the car out of the body shop and over to smaay's laboratory to get the swap going. oh yea I made my mind up and the car will be painted flat gun metal something similar to the link below let me know what you guys think about that color that's what I'm getting. and same theme smoked out lights all windows tinted and rims black however mines will be gloss black
no its a dude.
there are several Female Celica enthusiasts. my GF Amy for one, erynn is another.
I see. They must not be really active then.
I try to be as active as possible but working nights and sleep in the day time makes it pretty hard to keep up with answering the post quickly however yea I cant wait to get the car done and I see your in Fresno (ILoveMySilly97) thats cool I bought some rims from one of the members here, he lives some were out in selma, CA pretty cool guy.
Oh yea and the name "97cecilia" is actually the name of my car. I'm making custom metal or alimunum labels for the car instead of it having the word celica on it, the letters will be the same format but the word will be different 97cecilia is what it will say and in the toyota logo keep it the same. I guess it will be a good personal feature?
Also yea since I joined and whent out to pick a few parts from smaay my girl saw all the cars he had in his house and started talking about how cool they are and how nice they looked I think she cought the bug but will have to wait and see lol she already tried having me go buy one for here out in L.A but unfortunetlly the deal droped. I said less focus one thing at a time and I'm sure she will get here soon.
When my car is done I will go to a meet and great event that's my goal.
Im actually from Hanford but I travel to Fresno once a week so I basically live there too. Lol. Id like to see your car once its done. Bet it'll look good.
Yea it will be done soon? Just making sure I have evrything for the swap and double checking everytime I add a part to the list. Also waiting for the autobody shop to get it back together and there waiting on a few parts to them selfs, so is taking a little longer then expected but its getting done right. I'm taking pictures of the progress and when I'm not there they guy in the shop is taking pic's for me, hopefully soon ones my car is done. I'll be able to add all the pictures from the biggining to the end. and maybe a video or two? never know
I wanna learn how to do this for my exhaust just worried it wont be legaly possible in California =( check the link below
http://www.6gc.net/celicas/1995-gt-hatchback-6829
So the car is now at the lab in smaay garage ready for the new motor. I'm just missing a few pieces the transmission brackets and the exausht manifold other then that I think smaay is making big progress and fast. I'm really exited I just need to get all those parts he needs ASAP.
Anyone of you know the name for those brackets they need to come out of a 6th generation celica gt any help I will appreciated and I think I found the manifold need it for my car.
other then that nothing else at the moment. hopefully smaay can upload a few pictures for you guys to take a sneak peak on whats going on.
ttyl team 6th gen all the way.
i have been taking lots of pictures, I guess I could upload some here. Of course ill have a big write up thread when Im done
THE RACE IS ON!!!
im gonna wait till next summer to do my swap. that way i can wait for these write ups and instructions
Ok here is a BIG update!!!!!
this is the mod you have to do with the EGR cooler on the 1MZ. i didnt get a side pic to show how the flange sticks out. But what you have to do is cut the flange off, then weld the flange right onto the pipe. This is necessary to help clear the steering rack. I will also plug the O2 sensor port here and the sensor will be located on the Y pipe.
Now to the good stuff.
If you get an Auto 1MZ it will prpbably come with the flex plate like this. You will need to remove it and get a Flywheel and new flywheel bolts.
Here is the Fidanza (highly recommended) flywheel and ARP studs (also highly recommended)
Here is the Southbend Clutch mounted. Again i recommend this clutch, call Southbend and talk to Andy or John in the imports dept. and tell them you are doing a 1MZ swap using the stock S54 transmission. They will provide the correct clutch.
Ok now onto mounting the S54. the top 2 bolts are perfectly aligned, you dont have to do anything to them.
This bolt hole is right under the starter location. in this location the 5S-FE uses 14mm bolt so the hole is smaller. you need to use a drill bit to open the hole to support the larger bolt that the 1MZ block accepts
Here is a look at the bottom of the block, the 2 bottom holes do not line up.
What im going to come up with is a plate that bolts to the 2 holes you see on the 1MZ block and then has a single hole for the transmission to bolt to. Ill Post pics of that when I build the plate.
This hole again is for the larger E153 to bolt to the 1MZ, in this case you will use a smaller 14mm bolt through the engine and into the trans.
Here is the Auto rear header. It is slightly longer and angled differently than the manual rear header. you want to get your hand on the Manual header, its easier on the shift cables and that tab does not hit the transmission.
Here is the MT header. I cut off that tab, its not used.
side by side of the headers
The puny 7A-FE and auto trans coming out.
Here is a shot of the power steering lines. I haven't determined if both of these ends get re-used, but they do need to be rotated up, loosen the bolts and just rotate the hoses up to the firewall.
Out comes the auto gear selector. This was really straight forward.
Push in on this button to release the selector, pull it down to make it easier to get out.
The HUGE Auto brake pedal needs to come out.
Looking under the dash, you can see the location for the clutch pedal and master cylinder mounting.
Take out this nut and bolt to get the brake pedal out
Holes Drilled, the center hole needs to be bigger.
Manual brake pedal installed.
Clutch pedal assembly installed. Luckily the clutch start switch wiring was there so I just had to plug it in.
This is where part of the clutch lines are mounted
Hole for the shifter cable
Shifter assembly installed
While i had everything open, i swapped out the ECU
back to the power steering lines
here you can see the ST and GT passenger side mounting bolt holes. The ST are in black and GT are in red. Since this is an ST im going to try to fab up some plate to use the stock body mount that will bolt to the 1MZ
This was an ST auto so all the transmission mounts had to be purchased. Ill add the part numbers when I get a chance.
and where it sits now.
Im also about 88% done with the wiring harness. It takes me about 12 hours to do the entire harness. Its not as easy as it sounds. There is lots of splicing and routing of wires.
Good stuff so far.
Hell yea!
I really need to do a write up for mine
But any write up you do will be better then I could pull off
Part numbers for the mounts are:
Front Trans Mount 12311-74180
Front Body Mount 12360-74050
Drivers Trans Mount 12325-74240
Drivers Body Mount 12372-74450
Rear Trans Mount 12321-74320
Rear body Mount 12371-74410
These are not cheap from the dealer, so i suggest you plan ahead and find them from a junkyard or on ebay
Man. That was a he'll of a write up. I can't believe I'm reading about my car. I would always dream of me doing this swap and now Its happening can't wait. Thanks for the update smaay.
Man. That was a he'll of a write up. I can't believe I'm reading about my car. I would always dream of me doing this swap and now Its happening can't wait. Thanks for the update smaay.
Been waiting to see this write up. Smaay is right about the engine and trans mounts, from factory those bastards are not cheap. I'm starting to scout tidbits in the local yards for my swap hopefully next spring. Smaay could you try to detail the vac lines and specify the fuel return setup? Great write up so far, I look forward to the next update!
Man smaay you make the v6 swap look so easy. Lol.
it is the same difficulty as the 3S-GTE or BEAMS. well BEAMS in a GT is the easiest.
I would say the hardest part of this swap is the wiring. the V6 harness and celica need to be morphed together and extended. I spend over 20 hours working on the harness making sure all the wire colors match and properly solder and shrinkwrap all connections.
I'm guessing besides the wiring part its just getting those small things modded to fit or finding a header from a mt 1mzfe. Lol. Soon when my car hits 300k, for sure ima have to do something to my motor and transmission. Rebuild the motor or swap it for the 1mz. Which most likely il be doing. Ima rebuild the s54 also. Hopefully. I heard it's an easy job but never looked into it yet
How about the dakota digital was that hard? And also the gauge cluster i bought is in kkilometers i need to find the gauge cluster thats in miles
I've notices the clutch line connections are different for the 6gc. There are two different set ups the one on my 99 Celica connects straight to the hard line above the transmission and 94-95 models I'm guessing connects to an adapter that attached to the firewall. What's the advantage on the newer 6gc...
update time:
Turned the key... nothing happened....
here is the reason. this is the starting drawing
if you look at the drawing you see 2 paths coming off the starter fuse. one path is AT and the other is MT. when I installed the clutch pedal and found the plug for the clutch start switch i was hoping to get lucky and the entire circuit was there. well it was not. the section from the starter fuse to ID1 is not on the car because this was originally an automatic. I figured out where the AT path is behind the fuse box and made a jumper wire to go from that AT path to the downside of ID1 and BOOM! It fired right up!!!!
The engine is running.
Nice! I'm so jealous of the v6 swap!
You should start a 1MZ-FE garage business for our Celicas
drove the car again last night. let me tell you, in this configuration, 1MZ-FE 3.0L with the GT S54 transmission, this car feels just like mine out of the hole. It starts to drop off around 4500 where mine keeps pulling because of the VVT cams locked in the retarded position.
This car is fun to drive and hopefully it will get more people interested in a V6 swap.
Nice! I'm the future I should have this swap also. Lol.
I have more pictures of how i did the fuel pump setup and converted the fuel system to a non return that the 97 camry uses.
Nice!
here is the final product! It runs awesome and sounds mean!
Here is what I did for fuel. I changed out the stock fuel filter for a 2000 Camry/Solara filter. As you see it has the quick disconnect that the 1MZ rails have. so that makes it plug and play.
Here is the fuel pump assembly, to turn the system into a non-return style, you put a T in the feed line and run it through this regulator that is inside the Camry/Solara fuel tank.
this is the hose you get at autozone for the upper coolant hose
All i can say is wow just wow. Man can wait to drivevmy baby girl again. Shes lives again
Looks like a very clean install, great work
This is awesome, another v6 in the books. I agree, you should open up shop as a v6 swap specialist in a 6gc lol. Thanks for detailing the non return setup, much appreciated. Looks great as well! Time to post some videos
Lovely!
not much of a business if I have 1 customer a year
Thats very true smaay. I still wanna thank you for the help in getting my car there in such a short time. I will make sure to keep modifying it until i reach my goal
yeah I just need to modify your AC lines. thats the only thing left.
is that a custom passenger side motor mount? looks great
I'm sure I missed it
What fuel pump?
no its a plain 1MZ. but dont underestimate it. Its actually pretty dang fast.
If I could say I spend around 5000 for the parts maybe less and paying smaay that's about right but honestly it was worth every penny even though I still owe him some funds but slow and steady I will make sure to get that money in his hands its just amazing to see the effort he put into my car you won't get such tedious work from a regular mechanic you will pay the same amount maybe more but with out the concerns of doing it right and of course he loves Toyota just like we all do so I feel very comfortable leaving "Cecilia" with him it looks like he's been taking good care of my cat. Oh yea by the way the only reason I said 5gran is bc of actually had to straighten put the chassis in my car and remove some dents and other body work that I don't really remember so I'm sure it will be less then what I am spending
Sweet
Thanks smaay
still road testing the car. Running strong!
Oh man can't wait to drive my baby again.
you are going to be very happy.
Only thing missing is a new radiator. Looks excellent.
I'm still jealous. Lol.
I will smaay. Its next on my list. Lol. Now in debating on bailing on the front conversion and do the v6 swap first. My uncle talked some sense into me that my engine will go out first before the body paint will fade. My engine is at 215k miles. So now he has me second thinking everything. The amount of money I spend on the body paint is will be close to a v6 swap cost. Lol. Then again I want to wait until my next smog to do the v6 swap. So ill have the 2 year gap to BAR it. Next year will be my smog year. So either next year or 2017. -_-
How did you know I was actually thinking of getting a new radiator next but first thing first and finish paying the mad scientist (smaay)
Be advised these radiators may come with the posts in the wrong position, causing the fans to not fit. On top of that, you will most likely need to trim them down for the fan shrouds to sit down on the radiator, and I'd recommend getting some foam to seal off the sides of the shroud against the rad.
I have one of those, and it's good. I didn't see much difference from the OEM one I had, in general.
It appears the fin density isn't enough and the full aluminum construction makes it absorb radiating heat a lot more than the plastic-tanked OEM one. I am turbo'd though.
Or swap to aftermarket slim line fans
thats about what this one is. its 45-50 psi. its the stock regulator out of a 97 camry.
If you dont need inspections, then you could do what I did on my car is convert it to return. I tapped the ends of the rail for -6 and made my rails return style and used the factory fuel lines.
its in the tank
ok here is how the vacuum hoses get routed for the charcoal canister to avoid a CEL
this hose here goes to the center nipple on the vacuum canister
The outer hose on the canister here goes to this hardline on the VSV rack
this larger hard line goes to a T and one end goes the charcoal canister, and the other one goes to the vapor pressure sensor.
Sorry guys I haven't posted new pictures yet but I was a little busy with my mma fight and I'm expecting a new born baby so I've been a little busy however I was taking the back seats out to have extra space in the back to make a custom space for maybe camping equipment and what not but since my girl is pregnant and hopefully no twins but if that's what we get them I'm blessed anyways if it's a boy or a girl I'm going to take out one back seat and customized one part of the car for the baby stuff like you know diaper bag and baby stroller and also for my fishing equipment, camping equipment and or gym bag so I'm going to try and keep one seat for the baby seat mostlikely the one behind me and the rest of the car will be for storage and stuff or maybe I'll keep the one behind the passengers seat not sure quiet yet but working on it. I did install a few new things like new sound system and new interior pieces also fixed a leak on custom sunroof the car had but now it's not a sunroof its just a piece of glass on top fully sealed and I have new interior and hoping to get a paint job before December ends ones the paint job is done I'll post more pictures and upload a few videos to facebook about the car and the performance and stuff like that.
I'm out my girl wants cookies and chocolate milk and a fish soup lol what? Ttyl guys
Trust me leave the baby seat behind the passenger
you be on top of the steering wheel if not. Atleast till the baby's in a forward facing carseat
what about passing the BAR?? did that happen?
Hey guys so I've been driving my celica now for about a week or two at the most however my check engine light came on at it gave me error code P0135 I guess it has to do with the oxygen sensors so I replaced both top oxygen sensors and after replacing them, the car did find for a 30 minute drive but ones I got in again to drive it the check engine light came back on. The weird part is that I did install new oxygen sensors and so I'm not sure what's wrong maybe there is an exhaust leak I'm assuming but we're can it be? Also how do I check or test for my car exhaust le
Please guys help. I really would like now how to resolve my problem
P0135 is heater circuit malfunction. wierd that it came on after all this time. i drove the piss out of the car with no codes.
look on youtube for videos on how to troubleshoot it. eric the car guy has a good video on them. if you cant figure it out, bring it by and ill take a look at it
Yes you need OEM sensors, dont get cheap knock off's.
I got the OEM sensor's and will be installing them ones I install the new upgraded front and rear motor Mount inserts I got them from BRD Brooks Racing. I've also been thinking of making it a rear wheel drive V6 I know I'll have to spend another 6K but I'm willing to do that. I should have the money for that pretty soon. I'm back
I'm not sure if you remember smaay but the rear manifold oxygen sensor keeps hitting the axle and that's what cause's my check engine light to come up. So I've been driving it with the light on. Ones I install the new motor mount inserts I'll let you know what happens are you OK with taking on a rear wheel conversion? Lol I shall be able to do that soon of course car needs to be bard first lol so let me get that out the way and then we can jump on to that? This car is my baby and by the time I'm done with it its probably going to be a classic lol
Nice car man I'm glad smaay can help you good work you guys! You are inspiring many!
Smaay, Do you need the manual ex manifold for the swap in a GT? I was reading the swap tread of bnr32celica, Man is he just a dumb ass or does this project take 60 days to complete? Also should the brakes be upgraded for this swap?
yes i covered that above, you need the manual manifolds because the auto hits the trans in the back and the front has a pre CAT in it.
But realistically I can get away with just the rear manifold, Right?
no that one hits the transmission and will rub on the shift cables
I'm confused. I need to replace the rear manifold with a manual manifold. This I know alrady. And why would I need to replace the front manifold with a manual one?
Sorry what I meant was that I can get away with only purchasing the rear manifold. The front one is not a issue unless I need the cat.
Will a 1991 Lexus es flywheel work on a 99 Solara 1mz?
What would happen if i did not use this non return style fuel pump configuration? can i use any regulator or is their a specific one?
Here is the fuel pump assembly, to turn the system into a non-return style, you put a T in the feed line and run it through this regulator that is inside the Camry/Solara fuel tank.
[/quote]
this configuration was used to meet California SMOG requirement. This is how the 97 Camry fuel system is. you are free to do whatever will work.
When I first did the car, i converted my fuel rails to use an external fuel pressure regulator. this wouldnt pass SMOG visual inspection. yeah it sucks here in CA
In Ontario Canada all that is needed is that your check engine light is off and you will pass a etest on a OBD 2 equipped vehicle. You can have all but 1 system not ready and you'll pass. Pretty easy to get passed even if you have a issue.
What did you use for the y pipe?
I made it
Still running
Is it still running a 1mz only? Or is it the 1mz/3mz hybrid?
this car was never a hybrid
