At last I had some time for another upgrade. Steering wheel swap... My stock one was 4-spoke with airbag/horn in the middle.
Just history now . Since today I have this one genuine 7th gen. Celica/91-04 MR2 st. wheel.
Although horn mechanism and airbag connector were different everything is working now. And I'll try describe here how generally do that... believe it will be handy for anyone
step no one: remove old steering wheel
Two screws on sides (behind small covers) holds airbag part
There are just two plugs inside. That yellow one is for airbag and white is horn (there is possibility also for cruise multi switch, where are many more wires. Horn wire is black, every time that last on right connected to wheel body)
When you unplug everything + unscrew nut in the middle you should remove wheel with puller (w/o that it's not possible at all)
step two: solving airbag connection
Different airbag connector means find right module (spiral) for it...
...or use same airbag refill
Of course... some customization should be done if airbag refill has different size (more are different, more custom work is needed). My one was just bit different... and airbag part was easy take into parts.
step three: solving horn connection
This step depends on type of horn you have. However every time it's about find how horn mechanism works, cut black wire off old wheel and connect it somewhere... It really depends on that horn mechanism. However it's really easy, just one wire to screw... somewhere .
step four: piece everything together
Installation of new wheel body (with same center bore of course) is easy...
...and in my case screw horn cable to airbag body (not wheel body like stock one)...and all finished .
Very nice
very nice guide. this will be very helpful to the 6gc community. thanks!
nice i like it a lot. How much did you get the stearing wheel for?
Nice Job Martin
thanks for posts and PMs. Here is additional info:
7th gen/MR2/MR-S st. wheel. Where and how much?: I have that st. wheel from e-bay for 250USD (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-91-04-MR2-MRS-Blk-Leather-Red-Stitch-Steering-Wheel_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33704QQhashZitem260070888617QQihZ016QQitemZ260070888617 is another one, red stitched )
Why not "how-to article"?: Yes, this should be "how to swap 7th gen st. wheel" article, but only for Euro models. Thanks to snapshotgt I know you have bit different wiring in US (because of that cruise control switch). Euro celicas don't have that at all... That means in US you must swap also that switch -> customize body of that new wheel (cut some hole or anything) and mount it somewhere (some screws in right place???). That's why I rather call it "guide"
Is airbag really works? Are you sure?: Yes, airbag really works. When you turn keys on, every time runs "airbag-check" (airbag control light on for a while). If it's something wrong with check, control lights all the time. That's why I'm sure... Of course second way to prove it is crash .
Do you have part # of that 7th gen module? Will it work in 6gen celi?: par number is not problem 84306-32030. And, no I'm not sure it will work with 6gen celica... . I don't have that module (I didn't want to spend another 50USD), it's just a general option and possible way to try.
Nice swap dude! That 7th gen steering wheel looks 100x better!
aww. i guess i wont be doing it. US import cars are gay.
Excellent work, congrats!!!!
Which size is the puller?
100mm, 150mm or 200 mm ?
Need to know asap because Im removing my steering wheel right now : )
7th gen/MR2/MR-S st. wheel. Where and how much?: I have that st. wheel from e-bay for 250USD (here is another one, red stitched )

Now what if i took out the cruise control.. does that mean i dont need to mod the new wheel or do i still need to put that dead switch in the new wheel???
I was lucky enough to get my hands on some 7th gen parts at a good price
from this
and about an hour later this
sorry about the night pic, but I just finished. I'll get some day pics tomorrow or so.
Martin, the way I did it was easier than the way you did - no airbag repacking, just a splice here and there also, I used the 7th gen cruise switch (it's wired different than the 6th gen) so I'm 99% sure it works, I just need to road test it.
nice. now i'm really thinking about doing this mod. what did you do different from martin's how-to?
the 7th gen clockspring (spiral) does not fit in the 6th gen. I simpily cut the connector off the 7th gen spiral and used it on my 6th gen one. Both have 2 wires, blue/black and yellow. It made the swap a 15-30min job. As for the cruise it get's a little tricky. The 7th gen switch has 2 wires from it (red and white) and the 6th gen has 3 (red, white, and white w/black stripe). You just have to find the right combination of 2 wires. I tried a few before I got it, I think it was w/bck to white, and white to red (from 6 to 7)
Martin NO !!! I cut here not the bag connection itself
I had the 7th gen spiral wthat connects to the 7th gen airbag, the piece you didn't have
cunning
There is also a 6th gen steering wheel that looks like that. Mine came with it. The only difference is the center part where the airbag is has embossed Toyota symbol and texture that matches our interior. I have seen them in junkyards before. This should make a much easier swap I would think although I haven't tried it [obviously]. Here is a pic of my stock steering wheel:
Sorry it's crooked but that was the only shot of the wheel that I had. Also several other cars came with it like Supra for instance if you can find one.
correct. The 98-99s had a 3 spoke also. IMO the 7th gen airbag looks better and is a lot easier to find.
and some more pics
I still need to clean and shine it up but I think you guys get the point.
are all 7th gen steering wheels the same? do any come with leather?
i have a spare 3-spoke non-airbag 6th gen steering wheel from my sister's 94 6th gen and that wasn't wrapped in leather.. the wheel is thick and has a lot less grip.
anyway, my search for the jdm cf supra wheel continues.....
So is my stock 3 post. Well pleather or whatever Toyota uses LOL.
even though o wasn't replacing my steering wheel, I was fixing my horn, this helped a great deal...Thanks...btw i took my pillow off without a puller...
I really want one. To bad there aren't any available here in Holland for a descent price. I dont need the airbag but no junkyard will sell without and asking price = 400 euro's (550 USD)
Found Myself a nice Leather 7th gen steering wheel completely intact. Cant wait to put it on. Since I dont have a Wheel Puller I will pay Mr T a visit and lend it there
Anyone know if the 6th gen cruise control switch will mount into the 7th gen wheel (US).
Thanks
Is the back side of the 7th gen wheel metal or plastic? Tan corolla 3-spokes are fairly common/cheap, if metal, paint will look pretty good, then I can re-upholster the grips whatever color I want.
Now all you have to do is test the airbag to see if it works.
No, really, very nice mod. I would be scared to do this, epecially messing with the airbag module.
CONGRATS!!!!!
Nice write-up, man.
Just out of curiosity, if I were to purchase a momo wheel in the near future (and yes I would have the hub adapter), how difficult would it be to install? Obviously there would be no issue with wiring the airbag but has anyone installed an aftermarket steering wheel?
Taking the thread back from the dead lol….
Quick question here… what if i currently own a momo steering with adapter… and want to put a 7th gen ? My car is a GT-S with SRS… so i have the yellow plug hanging… but if i buy a 7th gen steering, the SRS plug from it wont fit my 6th gen one… what can i do ? I dont have the stock steering with srs anymore…
take the momo steering of, and show us a picture. you can still put the steering, the airbag wont be functional.
you need to get the plug otherwise you cant use it.
quick question, is there any special process when disconnecting the airbag? i know some cars you have to disconnect the battery and let set for like a half hour before you disconnect it, then there are some that you can disconnect no problem. just got an NRG wheel that i'll be installing in the next week or two and don't want an airbag in the face when i go to do the install.
do the safest, disconnect the battery.
will do. i get spoiled with the mercedes airbags where i can just unplug them and not worry about it.
any other precautions before starting...? like discharging the battery from the terminal and taking a fuse out so that the airbag will not deploy? Any other precautions, please let us know. Thanks
I'd hate for something to go wrong.
Otherwise nice DYI post
fixed my horn. On the other hand, wire was torn inside for the horn. Thanks malpaso. Anyone willing to do the 7th gen wheel swap for me? Ill pay someone..haha
took the airbag off this morning to speed up the process of changing out the wheel possibly tonight. just waiting on the hub from sparco that is supposed to be coming in today. can't wait to get the new wheel and quick release on for this weekend's rallyx.
as long as the 7th gen wheel you get comes with the airbag components, you can wire it up with your stock gt-s airbag harness as mentioned in the how-to.
oh, i'm not putting in a toyota wheel, i'm putting in a NRG wheel with quick release. i will not have an airbag, don't want an airbag to the face while taking the car off sweet jumps in a rally.
Hey I'm having a hard time trying to put the steering back...
You know where there is the bolt that holds the steering like here in the middle...
well i dont really know how to explain it but the thing on which you put the bolt it kinda shape in a star patern and so is the steering but i cant align those two properly so the steering wont go as far as it's suppose too... thus i can easily remove it...
any tips anyone?
well its a little late for this now, but what i have in my tool box at work is a sharpie. whenever i have to change out a steering angle sensor, i mark the 12 o'clock position on the main steering shaft and the wheel so i get the wheel put back on in the right spot. all you can do at this point is count how many turns it takes to go from complete left to complete right, then divide that by 2. it should get approximately where you need it. i would start there and see what you can do. i'd recommend putting the front on jack stands to make it easy to turn the wheel without the car on and that way its easier to take off and put on the wheel in the spot you need without turning the car on.
hope that helps and if there's anything else i may be able to help you with, give me a holler.
yeah the wheel is supposed to be very tight.. use an impact gun to bolt it in or get a big socket 24mm and up and put it around the bolt so it sits on the wheel and carefully hammer it in place.. i dunno just throwing out some ideas...
That's the thing... i have a garage, impact gun and a big ass compressor but my car is at home ... without the steering! F*** I guess i'll have to try with the ratchet (then if its tight enough i'll be able to drive all the way to my garage...)
And Windowlicker, i know about the mark but i'm putting a new steering on!
what's the part number for the clock spring....all i have is just the steering wheel without it...would it be best just to find a 7th gen clock spring? is that all i need and just splicing?
I did this today.
Was really easy, I didnt **** with the airbag refill, I just changed the connector on the current spiral to the new, was fast and easy.
Here is pic:
You don't want to know how much I got it for.
i got a question if you swap wheels with one thats not airbag is that illegal? will it pass inspection? someone told me it depends on the year of the car that 94+ must have driver airbag........my home state is texas if that makes a diff?
here's some pics of the nrg wheel, nrg quick release, and the sparco hub installed. i really like the position of it as i won't have to be reaching for it when i have the seat reclined in order for me to fit in the car with a helmet on. still need to figure out how to wire up the horn, but i'm lazy....lol
ok, i finished wiring the horn in last weekend, so i'll post up what i did in case any of you guys do an aftermarket wheel like me. i used an NRG steering wheel with an NRG quick release and a SPARCO steering wheel hub. for connectors, i used 2 eyelet connectors and an inline splice connector. the reason i used the inline splice connector was in case i want to put the stock wheel back in, i didn't FUBAR the wiring or stock connector. plus its easy to put in and take off if needed.
there were two wires on the quick release and steering wheel horn button, but there was only one wire on the hub. basically i ended up using the one wire from the hub as the positive (signal wire) for the horn, and then i used one of the eyelet connectors on the black wire from the quick release as the ground. i grounded it via one of the screws that attaches the quick release to the hub. there is a metal shim that goes between the quick release and the hub, so you will need to take some cutters and trim out a notch big enough for the connector.
after you get the quick release or wheel firmly attached to the hub, you'll want to move onto locating the signal wire for the horn at the connecter by the steering column. its the green wire at the end of the connector. an easy way to make sure is to take a short piece of wire, slide one end in the connector which is the contact for the green wire and ground it out. if you have the right wire, the horn will beep. i highly recommend doing this with the key out of the ignition. it will work without the key, and the reason i recommend doing it with the key off is so you don't short to ground a different circuit and fry it.
now you're going to need to make a wire that will go from the green wire to the back of the hub. there is a contact area that you need to touch the signal wire to. the contact is the gold colored ring that allows you to keep contact while the wheel is turning.
in order to keep the signal wire contacting the gold ring on the back of the hub, i made a bracket that will constantly touch the gold ring. i made it from a piece of scrap metal i had laying around. it is important to make a smooth curve to the side that will contact the ring, as you don't want to scrape the hell out of the ring, which will lead to wear and a scraping noise.
the part in between my fingers is the part that touches the gold ring.
now you'll want to cut some 16 gauge wire (keep very close to the same size wire as what is at the connector from the steering column) to about 5". on one end you will want to put the second eyelet connector. the end with nothing on it is where you will use the inline splice connector at the green wire.
as for a place to put the bracket i made to contact the gold ring, i am just using the attaching point where the stock clock spring (steering angle sensor) screwed in, and i used the screw from the clock spring as well. sandwich the eyelet connector from the wire and the bracket, then tighten down the screw.
make sure that the curve is directed to make the smoothest path on the gold ring and make sure there is decent tension on the bracket.
don't forget to double check your work through the process and keep checking to see if the horn works through the process. if you keep checking as you go, then the less you have to back track if you make a mistake. it's pretty simple and easy though.
Will this swap from f.ex the Celica T23 to T20 actually work if you collide? Have somebody checked this?
I just swapped a 99 rav4 wheel into my 5th gen (looks like a 98-99 celica 3 spoke). The 5th gen cruise control switch is an analog device as far as I can tell, with 4 wires on it. The Rav4 switch was a 2 wire digital. So I had to reuse my switch. It fits half decent using two of the holes already in the new wheel. Had to make a little bracket out of a peice of metal that I had but that was it. I thought I was going to be able to put the charge from my 5th gen airbag into the new wheel but it's much bigger than a 6th gen airbag like is pictured at the start of this thread, so no go. I could cut and splice the wires but I'm afraid that the trigger system is different so I decided it was safer just to leave the airbag out. I yanked the airbag light from the dash as well as the ABS light which I also have permanently disabled.
All in all it looks pretty good and the 1" smaller wheel makes for much quicker handling. Can't find the card for my camera or I would have taken pictures for all this but if anyone needs to see what I did with the cruise control switch I can get a picture of it.
GUYS!!.. i want to share a very very important information with you guys that i just discovered just now!!.. i can confirm this.. coz its working on my car now.. for all you guys that have the gen7 steering wheel n want the cruise control to work with your current clock spring.. instead of splicing n stuff.. you can get the newer version cruise control lever from a 98' or a 99' and its plug and play!!.. i got it to work.. i'm SO SO SO SO HAPPPPYYYYY... SO YUP.. will take some picts to prove my point!!..
FINALLYYY..
BOWAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAA..
I swapped a GT4 wheel w/out an airbag into my 6gc and it worked great, but decided that id rather have an airbag for safety and emissions. I put it all back together and my light wont go off. Any reset procedures or problems i may have caused? I plugged in all the harnesses and got the clock spring lined up in the center.
this should be stickied!
Have a Gen 7 wheel in my Gen 6 SSIII and was easy to swap, just plug and play with horn and airbag.
Thanks to malpaso who redirected me to this thread from the gtfour.ch forums to find out how to mount my Lexus IS200/Toyota ST205 JDM hybrid wheel to my ST205.
My problem is just the different airbag connector.
I'll use the Lexus wheel because it's leather and the airbag from the JDM ST205 wheel because of the Toyota Logo.
I have a Rav 4 airbag here two I got from a Lexus guy who wanted the Airbag, also because of the logo, so we swapped.
The airbag from the JDM wheel has two brown wires, the one from the Rav 4 wheel a black an a red one, both have the small connector.
If I cut the wires and mount the big connector from my '96 4-spoke wheel to one of the airbags, how do I find out which way it should be connected?
Does the RHD JDM st205 wheel have an air bag? and if so, is it as "direct" of a swap as all these others?
edit: even if it doesnt have an airbag, how easy of a swap would it be?
no more fuss.. the missing link ladies n gentlemen..
Since this thread is pretty much the most thorough how-to-swap-your-steering wheel, I'd love to see it completed with information on how to splice in the 7th gen cruise stalk for those of us not lucky enough to get a 98-99 or whatever it was that's plug-n-play.
As a side note, in the interest of consolidating info, here is how to clear the airbag code, as per the BGB for a '95 USDM Celica
OMG... I really didn't know what my now 3 years old topic can make . Thank you all with sharing with your own ways how to solve airbag issue. It's really amazing.
Now, back to that cruise stalk swap! I'm clearly electrically challenged, so the odds of me figuring this out any time soon are slim. Help? BAAAAAAATMAAAAAN!
I just looked over my notes, it's not super clear.
From the 6gen connector from the clockspring there's 3 wires
red
white
white w/black stripe
right ? (and the black horn)
7 gen to 6 gen
red to red
black (cut) to white
white to white w/black
that all I got, I took them both apart and saw the diff, check itr out
good luck
hehe..
Good to see that the adapter fits!
I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, one to three weeks.
malpaso. I understand that you need a puller to remove the column to completely remove wheel but would I be able to take the wheel, unscrew that center piller and somehow rotate my steering wheel 180 degrees without removing it? 2 years back when I had engine swap they mounted my steering wheel upside down. I was wondering if I could pull this off without a puller.
Thank you sir
I removed mine about a year ago without a puller but it took about 10-15 minutes.
I needed a puller to remove my 4 spoke wheel, definitely NO way I would've gotten it w/out a puller, but to remove the 3 spoke wheel I don't expect I'd need a puller whatsoever. My guess, Yarik, since yours has been removed once already, is that you may not need one.
If you do need one, you can get it from Autozone; they "rent" them - you buy it for $20, use it, and return it for a refund (their policy!)
ive got the BGB, thats why i was asking if thats how you cleared it. In that case, im gonna guess something bigger is wrong, incorrect wiring or something? code 12 is not very specific....
I think you're right, I think it's something with my connections actually.
Today I ordered the adapter harness - a bit too little, too late perhaps, I don't know. I depinned the clock-spring side of the connector, but didn't actually CUT anything off, so it's possible I could re-pin the connector, use the adapter, and be good to go!
Hey guys,
I am thinking hard about doing this swap, but I see a lot of people who are having trouble with it and I need to drive this car daily. I have a few questions, and I know some of them have been answered, but I want to be 100% confident and clear before a buy the parts to start the swap. My car is a 95 USDM by the way. First off, if I am lucky and able to find a 98-99 wheel do I still need to do splicing and modding to get the airbag to connect? What about the Rav4 wheel (looks pretty much the same imo)? Regarding cruise control, will I not be able to use my existing 6g cruise control stalk?
Shopping list:
7th gen Wheel or Rav4 wheel or 98-99 6gen wheel
7th gen airbag
Airbag connector adapter
???
Just buy the adapter posted above.
buy the adapter and just leave the cruise control it had thats what i did (with a 7th gen wheel)
i disabled my cruise control, the red stitch steering wheel didn't have the extra cruise control lever, but I've never used it anyway.
Hey guys, got my steering wheel on, I would like to wire up my CC lever. Does anyone still have the splicing information, or can anyone confirm that the connections batman posted are correct? One of the CC levers I have has 3 wires coming off of it, and the other has 2.
i used the old cc in my old steering wheel had but don't know about using the splicing.
which steering wheel are you using because the old cc should fit just not going to be straight out would be angled down something like this \ mine defenatly fit but like i said im using the 7th gen leather wheel have no idea about the other ones ill see if i can take a pic tomorrow.
talk about more than half an hour lol.
but here if it helps.
I got my CC stalk all working. I tried to splice the wires and install it, but it ended up being a bit more involved than that. I figured this thread would be the best place for a writeup considering it is the most comprehensive guide to swapping steering wheels, correct me if I am wrong:
First off a little background information, our cruise stalk has 3 wires + the horn wire, the new cruise stalk has 2 + horn. Here is the wiring diagram for the 2, simplified:
As you can see, we will need to make some modifications, here is a redrawn diagram of what we need to do:
Now, on to the work, Cut the connector off of your 6gc stalk, giving yourself enough to solder onto. Then take your 7gc stalk, depin the yellow wire from the connector, and cut the white and red wires. You will need to pull the white part out of the stalk housing, there are 4 clips (2 on each side) that will need to be popped off. Slide the black wire cover off of the red and white wires. You will be left with this:
You will notice that there are 2 black wires coming off of the switch itself, these black wires are used to turn the CC on or off, and our diagram shows that we will want to cut the black wire off of the red wire.
Here are the new resistors soldered in. I noted that the factory resistors did not seem to be soldered in, they feel like they are pressed together, or something like that, I had to snip the leads. Notice that for the 420 ohm resistor I had to use 2, because I did not have that particular value of resistor on hand. Resistors in series can be added to each other, in my case I used a 270 and a 150 ohm resistor to make 420 ohms:
Now cut your yellow wire in half and solder up the connector using the following color codes:
7gc stalk----------------6gc connector
Black-----------------------White
White--------------------White/black
Red--------------------------Red
Yellow-----------------------Black
You will be left with this (my yellow wire is not pictured, because I took it off while experimenting):
And installed:
Thanks for everyone's help making this happen: specifically I would like to thank njccmd2002 for the resistance values, and jiggersplat form the supra forums for the wiring diagram.
Here are the sources I used for most of my information:
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=58797&hl=cruise
http://supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?165265-GTS-wheel-installed-today!&p=5623053#post5623053
You guys know if it's possible to plug an airbag wheel to a car that didn't came with one? I just bough a new 6gc but it has an aftermarket momo wheel on it, but I'd like to go back with an oem 6gc 3spoke cc/airbag/horn wheel. (if there is a model with all 3 options)
yea IIRC there is
http://www.6gc.net/howto/install_trd_quickshifter
you can see it in the 2nd pic and they confirm it if you read this somewhere there even thought that how to is unrelated to this =.
i think culpable04 is selling a 3 spoke GT4 steering wheel not sure of if it has airbags or splicing or anything though, maybe you could PM him.
Thanks for posting all this information guys. This is the information I was looking for when I searched for steering wheel swaps.
I have one question that others probably have also.
Is there any other steering wheels & airbags that will work in the Celica?
So far the MR2 / Rav 4 / 7th gen Celica 3 spoke type steering wheel works. All these wheels look pretty much the same. I would bet that the TRD / Supra / Lexus / Altezza wheel would works as well since it looks to be about the same as the others.
What about other steering wheel airbag combos? I'm looking for a more modern sporty looking wheel wheel with audio controls on the wheel. Bluetooth controls would be awesome too.
If you have a Pioneer head unit, I know they sell a cable to integrate your steering wheel controls with the radio. How much extra wiring would go into that for a Celica, I'm not sure. I think some Rav4's have a 3 post wheel with audio controls. Or, if you really want, I'd bet you could pick up a 7th gen steering wheel from an auto. They have the upshift/downshift buttons. I'd bet you could repin those so their function becomes volume up and down and seek/track buttons.
do the 5th gen aftermarket steering wheel hubs fit our 6gcs?
Just history now . Since today I have this one genuine 7th gen. Celica/91-04 MR2 st. wheel.
Malpaso and the others who have followed on this topic, This swap was next on my list, I came across your string and pictures, totally awesome! Just a huge "Thank you" for posting all that you have!
As above a massive thank you to Malpaso for popping this up and everyone else's input is appreciated
I've only got one small issue is that on the UK spec GT (early 95) I've not got the yellow spiral connector but my horn doesn't work. is it just a case of finding the black wire and extending it then attaching to the gen 7 wheel?
Many thanks although it does look much better now
Got any picture of how it was connected to your previous wheel? Surely there isn't some rocket science behind the horn connector, can't be anything more than a single wire that makes a negative contact when pressed
You'd think it'd be simple but in the ones shown there there's the yellow spiral adaptor on mine there isn't one. I couldn't see a black wire else it'd be simply just a case of extending the wire back to the bolt (not the centre spline) which would attach the wheel to so when the horn is pressed the circuit s complete surely?
At the very least there should be (or should have been) a black ground wire attached to the old steering wheel. You just need to find where it went, and hook it to the back of the 3-spoke wheel's explosive.
Perfect cheers I'll have another looksie.
Thanks for the replies
Back from the dead:
You'd think that after so many years of posting you'd see the actual size of the torx bit mentioned by someone. XD
Anyone know what the torx size is for the 2 bolts?
T27 if I recall correctly.
They're either T27's or T30's. I'm leaning towards T27's. Which steering wheel are you going with?
ok it depends on what u want. you can get this adapter, you can splice the harness or you can buy the clock ring.
the clock ring part n0 84306-12070 it came in various cars and can be had for cheap en ebay and yards. ravs, camrys, some lexus.
I am going to get the appropriate part because just in case I ever sell the car, but mostly ill be more content.
ok, when i did mine, never got the airbag light on. and I spliced mine,
it is when i did my swap, that i ran the car with no airbag, that i got the code.
so maybe people hooked the batteries while they car the car with no bag..
I also spliced the wires and never got any airbag issue... SRS light comes on with the key turned, stays on for about 5 s, and goes off... just as it did on the 4-spoke wheel.
Using this harness might be a good idea if you feel that you will someday switch back to your stock wheel.
Got mine in thanks to this post and others for helping me out.
I'm a visual guy so this MR2 steeringwheel swap would've been MUCH better help.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nndrnsq0DvU
Today I prepped my 7th gen Celica wheel for install in a 4 post wheel equipped wheel car. I didn't want to do any cutting and splicing so I depinned the 7gc clockspring plug and repinned it for a 6gc plug.
Here's the difference, for anyone interested:
So I depinned the plug, and had to cut off the old pins and solder in some of the bigger donor pins. I was trying to avoid this, but it's not difficult. Three wires and I was finished, but it would only be one wire for anyone who doesn't have the E shift buttons.
After that was finished, I put all of the new plugs into their homes. The two wires on the far left are for the E-shift buttons so you guys can ignore them. They'll be used in a different project.
Now that this is done, I will be able to use an IS300 clockspring to get the signal out of the steering wheel and into the steering column. Of course, the plugs in the steering column won't plug into the IS300 clockspring, but I grabbed some plugs and pigtails at the junkyard a few days ago so I can repin those and make the IS300 clockspring and 7th gen steering wheel all plug and play for a Toyota equipped with a 4 spoke steering wheel. Since my Celica came stock with the 3 post wheel, none of that was necessary, but I have a new project coming up...
Daniel as always u never fail to amaze me with your skeels thanks so much homeboy
Just a quick snap of what I'm currently working on. Excuse the mess...
