Went and bought some T10 LEDS. Replaced the ones in the doors with some white ones, and replaced the dash cluster ones with quad bulb red ones.

Seeing as its still sunny where i live, it doesn't look so bright, so im hoping at night its bright enough biggrin.gif

Used a hairdryer & a razor-blade to remove the 18-year-old window tint on the car. Not an easy task consider the majority of it was dry/brittle and fell apart easily.

Today I discovered that my battery (6 months old) is dead as a result of the alternator overcharging. 15.2 volts FTL.

What alternator are you using? I'll guess you're getting a new alternator and battery.

first time ive heard of that personally. usually the alternator doesnt charge enough per say. but i think its possible especially if you've multimeter tested it. especially since toyota's alternator range is 13.8 to 14.2 volts.

side by side pic of my valve cover but i have a newer pic of a chrome oil cap, its not genuine TRD but its the only chrome one and its new on ebay, this pic is a gun metal version of it. Genuine TRD is just a dull billet compared to this finish.

I guess so. I usually hear/see alternators that stop charging. However, since we picked up the RX 300 and I haven't been DD'ing the Celica, I've noticed that we have to drive it every couple of days if we expect it to start. The battery didn't totally die until last week. I have two small amps in the car, neither is turned up and both are wired up properly. Then we have a Viper remote start, also wired up properly. I was about to buy a multimeter and see what was killing the battery, but I figured I'd check the big things first. I've noticed that batteries never seen to be as good after they die the first time so I had it tested today. Sure enough, the battery failed the test. Next we tested the alternator and it was putting out 15.2v steady.

It's the stock BEAMS alt. I'll be dropping it off to get it rebuilt here in the next week or two, then I'll pick up a new battery. No reason to fry a new battery with the same old alternator. No telling how long it has been bad... I never had it tested. I did definitely replace one battery already since the swap though. It was a Wal Mart Neverstart so it could've gone bad on its own. tongue.gif

Probably just the voltage regulator inside the alternator that's gone out.

The voltage regulator prevents overcharging. If you think about it, voltage is proportional to the rpms the alternator is turning at. Before the invention of alternators cars had generators and these required contact breakers which momentarily disconnected and reconnected to prevent overcharging.
I have seen bad alternators generate upwards of 18volts, it can destroy all sorts of electrical components so luckly your battery died before something like the ecu got damaged

The voltage regulator in most cars is designed to cut the voltage down to 13.3-14 volts, depending on ambient temperature. From time to time I have to replace the external voltage regulator on my 64 chevy, I know its time when the voltmeter soars to 16+ volts everytime the engine revs up.

aftermarket, from autovation. found them in an old 6gc post, and checked the autovation website and they still make them. found a discount code too.
http://www.autovationparts.com/store/toyotacelica.html

Do they come with the Celica wording or is custom design ?

They came with the wording, unexpected surprise. According to the old 6gc thread I found, they apparently had stopped with the wording, but it seems to be back.

nice find, but what options did u choose, mine cost 134 usd, not paying that....

although i have a used set in my drawer i bought from a member
