Yesterday I had received a roll of butyl rubber glue that I had purchased from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_i...products_id=792. I was searching around the internet for the best kind of headlight sealant and it seems that the majority prefer butyl rubber. I am currently converting my projectors for lhd use. After opening the package, I had noticed that the glue is very soft compared to the hard, cement like factory sealant found on the projectors. Is butyl rubber supposed to be like like that because even after I baked my headlight and put the glass back on, it still feels squishy even after letting the headlight sit for 24 hours.

Yes it is supposed to be soft and very sticky. Wear gloves when handling it or you will have a tough time getting it off your hands.

I have a coupe, one of the rear triangle windows fell out and I had to reseal it. Used a roll of black Butyl and it holds perfectly.

LOL I have a roll of that right next to me, but its called 3M windo-weld tm ribbon sealer, auto glass replacement kit, round bead 1/4" x 15' I got it for free, one of the technicians at work gave it to me . I told him I was going to use it to reseal my 2012 BMW 3 series projector headlights after I fix and modify them to fit my celica. I havent gotten around that because they are a pain on the baals to open. thats why I still have this stuff. some of the technicians call it dumb dumb, dumb gum or something like that lol, I have slight hearing problems and my subs dont make it any better lol. hope it helps. heck if you live in north jersey Ill hook you up with enough to fix your headlight

Butyl will not harden. If you want it to bond well I would recommend silicone, a high build seam sealer or window urethane. Butyl works great for many other things.

umm thats what the car makers use bro. its not supposed to harden, but to mold, thats why it melts with heat. it keeps your headlights sealed and remolds everytime u leave car in sun. Im pretty sure the auto manufacturers would have tought of that.

The same stuff is used on the doors, to attach the plastic sheets which protect the interior door trim panels. I believe it's used in house construction, in caulking gun tubes, to provide tight sound blocking seals.
