QUOTE (azian_advanced @ Mar 4, 2013 - 7:33 AM) *
Today I nearly wrecked my car. Today, we had a lot of wet snowfall and the roads were really slippery, but I have set of winter tires on and I'm used to driving in these conditions so no biggie. Well all was good until I decided to overtake a semi on the freeway. The semi was shooting a curtain of heavy slush while cruising at around 90 km/hr, so when the car started taking the hit from the heavy slush, it was enough to push the front end to momentarily lose lateral stability and cause me to spin while going 100 km/hr. The moment the car started spinning, I thought to myself "$hit. at this speed, the car's gonna be totalled when this is over frown.gif" without any regard of my own well-being. When I started to spin and the car was perpendicular to the lane, I could see the front bumper just inches away from missing the concrete barricade divider, but after spinning another 180 degrees, the rear end hit the divider and I came to a complete stop. Luckily, I was way ahead of the last car behind me so I quickly started her up and drove off. I immediately headed to the nearest carwash to take a closer look. It turns out there wasn't even a scratch on the dirt from the rear bumper! Instead the exhaust tip took all the damage... and it wasn't the muffler tip, but the extended add-on that was welded on the tip! Hell I didn't even thought it extended past the rear bumper! The tip was just bent a little to the right with some scratches on it and I can probably just hammer it straight again LOL! Also, the muffler wasn't making any raspy noises to indicate any sort of exhaust leak which is a plus. I still can't believe how little damage the car took while not taking any body damage. Who would've thought that of all the sides on the car, the one tiny bit, the exhaust tip, would save the car! I'm really glad that I was really lucky today, but more importantly, no innocent souls were involved in this (self-inflicted?) accident.

wow, glad your okay, you've got an angel looking down on you bro

Yeah sometimes I actually believe something is there looking over me because I managed to walk away from many dangerous incidents virtually unscathed: the accident with my red celica that sent the other car across 6 lanes and (conveniently) into a parking lot on the other side (not my fault btw), a head-on collision with an atv while snowboarding that would've took out both my legs (got it all on my go-pro btw), and now this. Anyway, this morning I started her up and noticed there actually is an exhaust leak which I presume is coming from the flex pipe or somewhere close to it. I guess I didn't notice at first due to the adrenaline rush! I don't hear any difference while sitting inside the car but it's noticeable when you're standing outside next to it. I'll probably have it checked out sometime before the summer when I pick up a set of summer wheels for it smile.gif

Today i wired up some connectors to go from my oem plugs to the projector plugs. And unfortunately broke the same tab i just fixed by testing the bond strength, obviously not good enough.
Other news, i also fixed the exhaust leak between my header and downpipe. It's my 3-4 time having a leak there... Not sure why.

Mine always leaked there in the past when I had one. Seems I would always blow the gasket out, or it was just cheap.

i believe because that area is the stress point in the exhaust design. If your old hangers sag a bit and you flex pipe doesnt take the weight, that weight will focus itself right on that area.

It's for the best, I'm not happy with the car so there's no point in keeping it. It's not my fault I'm super picky. tongue.gif I just don't look forward to every idiot stopping by and asking me what it is. What happened when I sold my 3000GT, no one knew what the Hell it was... rolleyes.gif The only thing keeping me going is knowing that a gas guzzling V8 is to be in my driveway shortly. I'll still stick around though, mainly to bitch about the cost of gas and such. laugh.gif

Don't get me wrong, the car in of itself I like. It's just too slow and would sound like **** if I did exhaust work to it. Aside from that I love the car, and am actually going to miss it. Why it took me so long to finally get it up for sale. I'd just be happier with a Corvette or Trans Am, so that's what I'm doing. In a perfect world I'd have both the Celica and my pavement pounder. Seeing as I only have room for one car, I have to do what I'm doing. This is Toyota's fault for not having the SS-III and GT-Four stateside.

I respect that statement. It would have worked out well for Toyota to have them stateside, but I like muscle cars too and may do the same at some point too.

Yesterday, I dropped off my rad cooling panel to copy the TRD type decal copy and reprinted.

Finally someone who understands me. tongue.gif I like both domestic and import cars, albeit with a slight bias to domestic. Though being that 75% of my cars have been imports would say otherwise. Different strokes for different folks. I for one can't stand the sound of anything with less than 8 cylinders, regardless of origin. That's a lot to do with it. 6 cylinders are good from idle to about halfway through the RPM range. I'm sure it sounds weird to choose a car based on how it sounds, but I guess a lot of that has to deal with my musical background. I even thought about the 3.8 Firebird, just to maintain mpg. Then decided not to solely due to the exhaust note. Yep, I'm that level of crazy. tongue.gif

Washed the celica and then helped my friend "pick up" a '73 Karmen Ghia! When I say "pick up" I mean, first we lifted the perfect, all original pan into the trailer, and then the body hahaha. Owner had all the parts except the boot lid, and he picked it up for $1500. Body will need some work, but the pan is perfect. Going to be getting my hands dirty on an aircooled this spring/summer!! So excited. I've got pics if anyone is interested. (on my iPod righ now and too lazy to upload tonight)

Now I shall slumber and pray my back doesn't ache when I wake up... Lifting a car is tough stuff haha.
