Mine is also the ST, which is better on fuel. If you haven't done a tuneup on it I highly suggest doing so. Also a lot of it has to do with how you drive. When I'm going for efficiency I keep the revs under 3,000 and skip 4th and don't use more than half throttle. Mines an auto so I can't skip fourth as that's the final gear ![]() But mine is never above 3K unless I am going up a large hill (my area is pretty hilly) Usually when accelerating, mine will go to 2.5K from 1-2-3; then from 3-4 is around 2.5K - 2.8K) once in fourth the car remains around 2.1K. I can only go a max of 90km/h at the moment (in a month when I progress on my license I can go to 100km/h)... I haven't tuned her as it is quite expensive here to tune the car lol -------------------- ![]() ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

Auto, well there's your problem. Ehh, tuneup shouldn't cost too much: plugs and wires, cap and rotor. Then replace oil and air filter if it's time. Making sure your tires are properly inflated is important as well. Try and coast whenever you can, all small things that can help.

Yeah haha, not legally allowed to drove a manual because of my dads car... Anyway, she had her oil filter and oil changed about 4 months ago, and her plugs were changed then too... (The previous plugs were actually fused into the car and had oil all over them... The dealer fixed it all up and she hasn't leaked since ( as far as I am aware) We've just had trouble with the passenger transmission seal mostly; it's leaked 3 times so far ![]() -------------------- ![]() ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

Over here if you took your test in an auto you don't have to retake it to drive a manual. Hell I never even took the driver's test for my license, I took a class in school in lieu of it. Eh if all that's been done, you could replace the fuel filter if that hasn't been done. Just the downside of an automatic, especially on a four cylinder.
I know over here there are auto transmission additives that are supposed to stop leaks. Worth a shot. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I get 22 MPG (10.5 l/100km here) all the time, without question. Doesn't seem to matter what percentage of hwy driving. That is with a very heavy right foot that can't seem to hold itself off the floor though when getting up to the speed limit ![]() I've just done oil again, and have the pod filter on there now (but its probably coming off again because I can't be bothered boxing it ![]() -------------------- ![]() SOLD :( 1997 ST204 Celica ZR -----> See it here on 6GC! 2013 October Celica of the Month XD Now: '00 NB8B Mazda MX5 -----> See it here in off topic! |

Hurry up and get licensed to drive a manual so you can get rid of your leaky auto and put in an s54! I don't want to drive a manual for my area... Always traffic and there are hills everywhere.... Over here if you took your test in an auto you don't have to retake it to drive a manual. We don't either, its just if you go for your 'provisional 1' license (Red 'P' Plates) in an auto you HAVE to drive an auto until you progress to your Open License; which goes like this: - 1yr learner - 1yr 'P1' Provisional - 2yr 'P2' Provisional - Opens -------------------- ![]() ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

Hills used to kill me when I starting off on one, but after you really don't even mind it. I can't stand traffic either way (A/T or M/T) but when I first started it was pbly the scariest most bumpy ride anyone had ever had. ![]() Here our license system goes by age for the most part- 14 1/2 - Learner 16 - Provisional 18 or 1 year of Provisional - Full I just waited till I was 18 and went straight for my full, lol. That sucks that youre stuck with an auto until you get your open though. Would be bad if you needed to drive someones vehicle for them and it was a stick! installed my new seats and door panels
![]() 21mpg city while driving really hard (pizza delivery in a tourist town) 25mpg is sorta highway, not interstate but not traffic lights every 30 seconds. they should have three mileage ratings 21/25/28 city/suburbs/freeway engine is well tuned except for 1 exhaust valve has some excess play on the lifter bucket shim that is a little noisy but not $500 noisy to get it fixed. new plugs wires cap and rotor every 6 months (21k), oil change every month (3500), air filter every 2 months (7k) currently sitting at 209k, idle is very smooth as is acceleration however I am throwing a p0401 insufficient egr flow code since I installed the header. Do you know how to drive manual? If you do, just take a driving instructors car (will probably cost you $170 or something for pre-test lesson, using the car for the test and the test fee)... But it isn't urgent anyway.

But it isn't urgent anyway. Yeah I can drive a manual... But not very well ![]() On my first go I stalled 1 time in 3 hours of driving (on hills too) It doesn't really matter anyway, because im not gonna be getting rid of my car until I am well on my opens... The third rating is the average. tongue.gif You're getting only 1 less than the original EPA rating for it, so not doing bad at all. Generally you'll see the best mileage at around 55 in top gear. Using air con as little as possible helps as well. More often than not I find just running the fan with it drawing in outside air to be sufficient, and I'm hot-natured. That's ok, I'll probably be getting a car that does good to give me 22 on premium. If fuel efficiency is a real concern your best bets are the Honda CRX HF and the Civic VX/HF, they're in hybrid territory for little money. In Australian summer not having aircon on in a car that's left in the sun is almost impossible ![]() But, if you are travelling with your windows down, any speed over 80kmh (approx 50mph) makes it more efficient to have air-con than retracted windows due to the drag caused by the window being down... But, with that being said; if you are THAT much worried about fuel consumption, one must as why a Sports car was chosen? even a 4cyl sports car... Guaranteed they're nowhere as nice looking as the Celica, but if you're driving even the average of 15,000 miles a year you(Celica GT vs Civic VX) would save $900+ a year in gas. If anything just get the Civic VX as a work car, it'd pay for itself and think of all the money it'd save to put towards the Celica. ![]() -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

(sarcasm) Didn't you see Mythbusters, they went further with windows down. tongue.gif That was on a V8 powered vehicle too, just imagine what it does for an I4. Haven't seen that episode... I do remember the ute with rear retracted/chain mesh/ solid... I was just basing my figures off what I have found driving my car; since 90% of the roads I am on are <80kmh but there is a bypass near me that is 80 exactly and another road that I can reach my max of 90 (for now) and I found by driving on these with window down I could get around 300-350km/tank (20mpg) if I was lucky (I only ever fill with 40L) and when air-con was on with windows up, I got 400km/tank (24mpg)... But, I did have a few problems with the car and my figures may not have actuall been accurate ![]() This post has been edited by rentaspace: May 9, 2013 - 5:54 PM -------------------- ![]() ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |
