The problem with our ST205 is that the flat 4 is mounted horizontally.
Ive heard of v6 implants but is it possible to do a V8?
Think about it. Its about the same length as a straight 4, being 4 and 4 cyliners parallel just much wider meaning when mounted sideways, its fuller towards the fire wall and rad.
So if so I could imagine relocating the rad further beyond the slam panel and it could work.
Now what V8 made by toyota that can mate up with the E145 gearbox?

There's plenty of room, the problem is the steering rack location.

I think you mean inline-4, not flat-4.... no Subaru motors in a ST205.

Now I didnt think about the steering rack.
What options do I have as I think its the same issue with a V6 transplant?

No it wont. Not horizontally.

Regarding money, I think ill be making most of the things up so besides the lump, everything else is just aftermarket tuning parts.

So back to what V8 will mate the E145?

How about the 1UZFE?

A 1UZFE with twin turbochargers fit into a fifth-gen Celica's engine bay -- although that was a GT4 which was converted to rear-wheel drive. http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1140

We have a member doing a V8 conversion right now, but it's being done in a RWD layout. We know the V6's will work such as the 1MZ-FE. I'm kind of curious, why are you wanting to swap from the 3S-GTE?

The 1uz is 6 inches longer than the 5sfe. Bolted to the S54 transmission its 6 inches wider than the frame of the celica and it would drag the oilpan on the ground so you'd need a dry sump

great so the 1UZFE is too big.
Can the 1MZ-FE fit sideways then?
Why V8?
I've always wanted a V8 thats why. biggrin.gif

If you want something thats going to bolt up... get a new chassis. Anything can be done, but lots of time and effort.

A 4-liter 2GR-FE may be possible, using a 1GR crankshaft to stroke it.
The 2GR is a 3.5-liter V6 found in 2007 and newer Toyotas, Lexus, and Lotus. Supposedly its 'bolt in'(some custom parts required) just like the 1mz, though the 2gr is a bit more expensive.

Then your celica would be a GRT-205 or GT-205 instead of an ST-205

I intend on making a new subframe and chopping the chassis to make this fit anyway. As long as it sits within the two top mounts and I can still retain the GT4 gearbox then I think it's do-able.

GT-205 sounds good but would rather have a V8 if I can fit it instead of a V6.

That's like asking how does a Chevy 350 compare to an LS1.

If you're going to the trouble, better off making it rwd. Doublt you'll find an engine to fit and bolt up to the FWD transmission. Like I said though the steering rack is the real killer on this car.

3VZ is an old heavy cast iron V6. If that is your thing, then right on. 1MZ is all aluminum V6, and is reserved for ballers.

both options will bolt up to the E153 perfectly... Not sure how the rear bank exhaust manifold will interfere with an AWD transmission,
