Eh... Debatable. The 3S-GE has more HP, but lacks torque. Personally, I love the grunt and torque of the 5S-FE. Yeah, it may sing on the highway and not be able to go really fast, but for driving around the city (which is all i really do) it's a blast. All of it's power is down low, so it's perfect for the twisties and turns the city has to offer. Also is great for those late night tōge runs on the downhill and autocross.

The BEAMS makes 160 ft lb at 6,400 RPM and the 5S makes 145 ft lb at 4,400 RPM. Would be interesting to see dyno charts on both engines stock.

It's actually 151 lb ft @ 6,000 RPM.

My first car was a 90 Celica with a 3s-ge swap. It was pretty run down when I got it, but I sure did love that car.

Actually I'm right too, I quoted for the black top BEAMS by accident. tongue.gif

If I see a Celica GS (which is a NZ new ST204 with 5S-FE) in my area I'll see if I can go for a test drive and compare.
