Today I... got let down for the first time :'( I had pulled off the main drag to take a phone call and just left the car idling in neutral with the aircon on, after about 5-8 min I finished the call and pulled back on to the road, within about 15 seconds of pulling down I looked down and saw the temperature gauge skyrocketing... I pulled over immediately and switched off the engine. Popped the hood and heard the coolant in the engine boiling :S After a quick bit of investigation I am fairly confidant I have an electrical fault with the cooling fans. I managed to drive home fine once it cooled off, it just didn't like sitting there with no airflow. When I switch the ignition back on (without turning over the engine) the fan spun once, then stopped and made a whirring noise, then nothing. This repeated itself again the next time. I am about to go and investigate some more, then do some searching and maybe a new topic if required -------------------- SOLD :( 1997 ST204 Celica ZR -----> See it here on 6GC! 2013 October Celica of the Month XD Now: '00 NB8B Mazda MX5 -----> See it here in off topic! |

sorry to hear, would probably be worth having a check of the other cooling parts as well to be on the safe side

Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully nothing was damaged, and the cause is an easy fix.

Took me 5 - 10 times to try and get it started... The problem has seemed to have gone now, so maybe something discharged the battery the over the previous night or something. Anyway, Ill do that test mentioned on Facebook tomorrow and see what happens... ^Battery wouldn't cause that. Sounds almost as if the engine was flooded.
Also been looking around and I can't believe all the Japanese parts I can throw onto a SN95 Mustang. If I were to get a Mustang and load it up with Japanese suspension parts and wheels then both the domestic and tuner crowd would love me. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I am thinking it was due to the weather; We had a 12C (53.6F) day, and rain with 60+km/h (37mph) winds... The chill factor was terrible Later that night it had died down and actually got warmer to around 15C (59F) -------------------- ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

Well I was wrong about the electrical thing; that whirring noise was just the ABS unit initialising... you just usually don't hear it with everything closed up. Fans work fine, they just only run when the engine is physically ticking over, not when the car is in the 'On' position with the aircon on like all our other cars do. The radiator has lost a lot (Can't see a fluid line at all when you look in from the top), so I need to steal a car in the morning and get some new coolant. I am planning to just fill it up and baby it around for a few days and keep an eagle eye on it... I doubt any more damage will be done if I keep an eye on the temp and don't let it get hot. I can't see any other problems that would cause it, other than a coolant leak somewhere (I'm not saying there isn't, just that I'm not going to find them with the car sitting here in the driveway ). And a 'stang with JDM suspension.... I'd love a muscle car that could turn corners too -------------------- SOLD :( 1997 ST204 Celica ZR -----> See it here on 6GC! 2013 October Celica of the Month XD Now: '00 NB8B Mazda MX5 -----> See it here in off topic! |

There's something off with your car then, the fans should come on with the car in the ON position. With my car running with the fans kicked on I can turn the car off and into the ON position and the fans will stay on until it runs through its cycle. Also as soon as the A/C is turned on the fans turn on and stay on as long as the A/C is being used.
Indeed, there're a ton of aftermarket suspension components for the Mustang. Kind of leaning towards it over the 93-02 F-body since you can actually work on its engine, and the interior isn't a giant chunk of plastic... Why GM, why...? Anyhow, going to be on the lookout for one locally so I can see one in person and see if I'd like the car more than the Celica. That and to see if my knee can take the clutch, somehow I get the feeling that a cable driven clutch on a V8 won't be any fun. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Do after thinking about that black Celica for $1200, we turned it down. It's got way too much wrong with it.
We did find this one for $1500 though, and it already looks better. (Most importantly, all of the body is original, so it hasn't been in any accidents yet.) http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/3787197087.html It's got way less miles, looks better already from the pics. If a door and fender is the least of my worries on it, I'd be okay with it. Those are cheap at a junkyard. The black one needed almost everything new lol and the dash looked like it had been dislodged in the accident it was in. From the pics on this one, the dash/inside is perfect. -------------------- 1994 Toyota Celica GT-S 5S-FE 190k Miles. Project car 1992 Toyota Celica GT 5S-FE 170k Miles. That's looking better. The spoiler looks faded and there seem to be scratches around the front emblem. I also see some bird droppings or even worse, the after-match, the eaten away clear coat underneath.
The damage around the fenders seems to transfer to the bumper. Interior looks good from the single pic provided. Rims need to get fix. All that may lead to a good price drop. -------------------- |

Maybe the Australian spec Celica's are different, I just tested mine and videoed it: When my car was running, and the AC button pressed, the Fan's instantly come on (like on all cars), I then cut the engine and returned to the 'on' position, I had cold air coming from the vents and AC on, but no fan spinning... *Facebook Video* Do after thinking about that black Celica for $1200, we turned it down. They say 'Or best offer' so I would be talking them down a bit by mentioning the faded paint and damage... Overall that is a very good project car and by my local prices, a lot cheaper than anything running here This post has been edited by rentaspace: Jun 3, 2013 - 9:38 PM -------------------- ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

Haha well sort of. I took off my spoiler, I'm getting body work done on my rear end this week to get rid of that annoying gash that's been there forever. And get parts of my clear coat fixed that are peeling off... I kinda actually like it spoilerless.
