Sup guys,

I'm looking to get a muffler for my '99 vert and was wondering if you guys had any videos of your setups?
Tryna get a LOW DEEP SOUND on one but not tryna get a full exhaust system.

Also, one without an annoying tone when you're cruising the freeway at 65mph (still gonna be my daily driver to work 25 miles away).

Thanks in advance!

Change out the muffler for a magnaflow one, it's the cheapest way to get sound out of the stock exhaust.

I looked into it too but I couldn't find one to my liking. All the ones I found were 4" outlet. A bit too big to my liking.

You don't know how to look then. tongue.gif They make from 2" to 4" in the universal mufflers.

I've thought about this myself to a good degree. Being it's a 4 cylinder probably really need a muffler with baffles in it to tone out the rasp. Magnaflow has their XL series, which are baffled.

If the rest of the exhaust is stock it shouldn't rasp. That's what the catalytic converter and resonators are there for.

The catalytic converter is to reduce emissions. tongue.gif It's a 4 cylinder, of course it going to sound like **** with an aftermarket exhaust. To what degree it just depends, I gave up and decided to leave it stock.

Except the catalytic converter also reduces sound as a byproduct of it being so damn restrictive. Go remove them on ANY car with ANY engine and I can guarantee you the noise level will increase.

Cats help more in terms of noise pollution than a resonator does, and more than a lot mufflers do too (except OE mufflers on most cars because they're even more incredibly restrictive)

Well durr, don't look into more than what my shallow smart-ass comments are. tongue.gif

Removing the cat is one of the worst things you can do for sound on a 4 cylinder. Get so much popping and rasp, terrible. I still say a Magnaflow XL or Flowmaster would be the way to go. More freely flowing than OEM, but hopefully doesn't sound too bad. I've thought about doing the exhaust on mine a million times over, I just know I wouldn't be happy with it no matter what I did. Nobody wants to sound like a Honda. tongue.gif

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/streetmufflers.asp

There're all the ones with tips already welded on. If they don't make one you like you can always get a separate tip to go with whatever muffler you choose.

get a Magnaflow and have them weld on whatever tip you like, keep the stock resonator and grab an ebay header. It'll sound nice, like way nicer than you're expecting it to sound. Give it about 4 months to 'break in'. It'll get a little louder.

i'd just stick with the tanabe or apex ws2 universal muffler, and then repipe the rest. tanabe might be a bit quiet depending on your setup or cats, resonators you put on or remove. a vibrant resonator works nicely too for less restriction but still has the noise reduction. it depends if you are also removing the stock cat because of an aftermarket header doesn't have it. being you are from cali not sure what you want to do with the 2nd cat below if you have one.

I recommended the ws2 to another member here and it came out well.

I have an aero turbine reso and exhaust muffler. Very throaty, no civic wining. Many people comment on its sound thinking it's not a 4 cylinder smile.gif

Do any of you guys have any videos or experience with Magnaflow 14832?

Thanks!

What if you were to just upgrade the piping to 2.25" and keep the stock mufflers and cats on? Would it be just a bit louder?

The stock muffler is what really kills the volume on the exhaust. It has to be one of the most muffling mufflers I've ever heard. tongue.gif
