Well hello their 6gc wink.gif. Let me start off bye saying I found this website about six months ago and immodestly fell in love with celicas. I had no idea of what all could be done to them so my research began. I started saving money to find the perfect car and bam I bought a 94 gt with the 3sgte for 3 grand! I really know little compAred to the pros on here And my journey begins.
The car is lowered on tein springs. It is just an absolute beast to drive but their is much to do. I don't think the engine is wired up correctly, the mph gauge does not work. The rpm seems like it is off(original dash) which could be the problem. It's hard to reverse the car because it shakes and kinda wants to nose dive the front end. I believe this is because it is still fwd and needs to be awd? The motor has 80k miles on it from wat the owner told me but I can't verify that yet. I don't know anyone in georgia on these forums but if u are out their I'd love to meet up someday To see each others rides and maybe help me out with some of my problems. First things first though I need to get it fixeddddd! She will crank like a beast but the guy told me the "ignition coil" was bad. When I turn the key to start the car it just dims all the lights. I basically have to Hotwire it everytime And it's starting to get on my nerves. My name is tothetop on here and that's my goal. But to achieve this goal I know I can't do it without you all. My iphone won't let me upload photos saying their to big.

Lastly I would like to introduce myself smile.gif. My name is James, I am 20 years old basketball player and professional painter. I hAv plenty of construction experience but lack hard when it comes to cars. I hope to get my project off the ground soon but I just found out I have a tumor in my leg so I'm not sure how this will effect my build. Please be patient with me as we'll tongue.gif. I really love 6gc.net just reading ur stories helped motivate me through my own struggles, and hopefully one day I might to help someone unknowingly. Welcome. smile.gif

To post pictures, upload them somewhere ( http://imageshack.us is pretty good ) or if you already have them on somewhere > right click the image, "Copy image location". Then, you see that framed pictured ( ), left on the smile icon? Click on that and hit paste (ctrl+V), then OK.

First of all, welcome to the site, you have a beautiful celi... Pros of it: it already has the right engine in it, and it looks like it's kept well...

Since I know how bad it is to be in the dark, I'll help you out. I'll answer everything you're doubtful of to the best of my knowledge.

don't think the engine is wired up correctly, the mph gauge does not work.

The speedometer is independent of the engine performance. It works via a speed sensor located in the transmission, above the differential. It can be replaced, if the cause of the malfunction is a faulty speed sensor, and it shouldn't be that expensive. I would get the problem diagnosed first, before buying any parts.

QUOTE
The rpm seems like it is off(original dash) which could be the problem.

What do you mean by "off"? If the engine in it is a 3sgte with a distributor it shouldn't be off, it should be working fine.

I found this funny haha, I've never heard somebody suggest this before so it's a first. However, it doesn't matter if the car is AWD or FWD with the 3SGTE, if it has the proper transmission which, if it runs, I'm guessing it does. It either has the stock GT transmission or has the FWD E153 transmission from a Solara or an MR2 turbo. It could be the off-chance that it has another S-series transmission (S53, S51) or an E154F converted for FWD (which is the numeration if I'm not mistaken for the AWD transmission in the GT-4. A block-off plate can and has been made to block off the transfer case that sends power to the rear wheels)

DON'T GET THE IGNITION COIL REPLACED for this issue. It ISNT the issue. If the car doesn't start but when it gets jumpstarted runs just "fine", then the IGNITION COIL is not bad. That is a very expensive part and is probably located above your brake booster. It is what sends power to the spark plugs. If it's bad, the car wouldn't run at all.

This sounds like a problem with the battery. If it cranks fine when it gets jumpstarted, probably the starter is also good and doesn't need replacing. Again, check the battery first. Most big-chain autopart stores do a Free Battery Check and either charge it if it's uncharged or recommend replacing if it's lost a cell or two.

I really hope you get that tumor out, I can only imagine how bad it is to not be able to play basketball if that's your passion. If you ever need any help or have any questions feel free to ask me or the forum, we always try to help out a fellow 6GCer.

They were coming from the same plugin so I thought "huh might as well twist um together n see what happens" bam car cranks with the key now. As far as the shaking when I reverse could this be motor mounts or not really sure? Idk wat tranny it has but I'm running 10 psi n it pulls hardddddd. Yea the tumor sucks balls but it's life biggrin.gif I really appreciate ur help! Ill take a video so you'll be able to see it ;D

Man I love that stock body look. No skirts, lips, splitters, or any other body mods. Gives it a much better sexy curve. Sometime in the future I'm going to strip mine down to stock looking. Looks so sexy with them stock curves. Then again with the body mods it makes it look sexy with them mean ass sharp curves. Lol. Liking your Celica. Great project car.

Yeah given it's a 3sgte, probably the motor mounts got abused and are probably shot. No worries, they're not too expensive to replace depending on shop labor around you, but it's something I'd try and do by yourself. If you don't have tools, it's time to go get a craftsman tool set! Buy the biggest one you can afford; one can never have enough tools.

If that did it, you might as well take a volt meter to it and check if they've got a polarity to one another. You might also want to solder them together.

@mgnt232 yes 3k and I agree damn good deal wink.gif. For exterior I want to put gt4 hood and grille then paint it chamillion pink to purple fade.(I am a painter so I know I can do it)

@ilovemysilly97 I agree aswell stock looks great good and grille in decent shape but I want them switched. No side skirts or bumper tho. Also stock spoiler it looks so much better than the bulky gt4 one.

@syaoran I'm not sure about the motor mounts. I would think the car would shake going forward if they were bad but it's only on reverse it shakes ;/ kinda weird. Also I just wire butted the wires together and then taped it up. I do have a cherry picker and all the tools to take out the engine tho. I did swapp a Volvo xc70 from and to fwd and did put in a new motor. biggrin.gif

Thank you all for your help!

You can just do the mounts one at a time so that way you don't have to pull the engine. For the time being though I'd work on getting all the small things, like being able to know how fast you're going. tongue.gif

Ran into the right people today and found out he didn't have the 3sgte wiring harness??? Is that even possible? I mean their is a lot of stuff not connected such as the 02 sensor on the intake and the plug on top of the air to water cooler. Also what power steering lines can I use? An do I need one or two ac lines for the car? If anyone has a 3rd gen wiring harness they wanna donate ^^ that'd be fire or shoot me a price on it. Also I have an apexi s-afcII super airflow converter that's basically running the engine!!??!! Whoever knows anything about this stuff I need insight. Also failed emissions hard!

!(!(!(!(!(I have no cat but I'm not buying one)!)!)!)!)
Emission results:25/25 test
Hc ppm 202------136 allowed "fail"
C0% 6.63--------0.76 allowed "fail" (wtfff!!!)
Nox ppm 202----984 allowed "pass"
Rpm 1962--------3000 allowed "max

The car has no power steering?

If it doesn't have the 3sgte wiring harness and it's running fine it probably has some kind of hackjob done to it to get it up and running, you might wanna check into that. The possibilities are that either who told you that is wrong or you're somehow still on a 5S ECU (that is if the car was previously 5SFE powered)

Car had 5sfe. Yes no power steering because the line is cracked and I can't find any info on it -_-
And yes it runs great! But he defffinatley didn't upgrade motor mounts ( car shakes in reverse) which is embarrassing!! Also when I try to downshift in third their is a slight grind. I'm gonna check trans fluid tomorrow and yes whoever rigged the car up did ****ty job. If the fuse to the apexi dies and I didn't have spares in the car I'd be stuck and not sure I've found two computer boxes. One ran under driver seet (believe it operates the dash interior lights n stuff) then one ecu wired under glove compartment kindasad.gif feel like my car hates me

The grind when downshifting into third is a common problem, due to the synchronizer. Some people have luck using Synchromesh.
