What size is the speaker mount on the celicas front and back speakers? I'm wanting to put a new sound system in mine.

Front have an 8" mount (which for where i live is ridiculously hard to get speakers for) and rear is 6" (around 16cm)

http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=57246 < this is for making a bracket for the front, unless you buy an adapter of some sort ( i did, which has massive gaps in it and lets road noise in... will get round to fixing that at some point...)

Whoops i just realized you're from New Zealand too...

There aren't many places that sell 8 inch speakers, but if you find a place, let me know thumbsup.gif

If it has the premium audio it'll have the 8" in the bottom front, standard just had 6.5" all the way around.

Easiest way to find out is what you have is to remove the door panel, takes probably all of ten minutes if that.

Takes 2 minutes if you're used to doing it all the time like me biggrin.gif

Premium sound system eh? Would make sense as i reckon the stock speakers actually sounded better than some JVC DRVN speakers

Even easier, of you have the additional 4" speakers then you know for sure. Celicas came with three different sound system setups.

1. Four speaker system- All four speakers are 6.5", the fronts are mounted in 8" brackets.

2. Six speaker system- Again, four 6.5" speakers but with a factory amplifier and tweeters. The front speakers are still mounted in 8" brackets.

3. Eight speaker system- Rear speakers are 6.5". Front lower speakers are 8" subwoofers. Has additional 4" speakers near the door handle. Tweeters in the door sails. Additional amplifier underneath the driver seat.

You can mount aftermarket 6.5" speakers in the 8" brackets. There's a writeup in the stickies. I'm too lazy to go grab the link at the moment.

I have 4 speakers, does that mean that the mount has 8" but converted to 6.5"? so some 6.5 speakers would be fine?

Correct. I made some custom wood rings to mount my 6.5" speakers in, then I saw in the stickied where everyone else cuts the actual speaker out of the stock bracket, leaving only s metal ring with a 6.5" hole that fits your new speakers perfectly.

Not a perfect solution, but there are adapters available. Relevant post in another topic.
