So close, yet so far...

I don't have the extra plug on hand for the reverse lights, on top of the transmission. Does anyone know if the OBD-II system will let the car start with it unplugged?

Only one way to find out. tongue.gif The only switch that'd keep it from starting would be the clutch interlock switch. Well, aside from the ignition switch...you get the idea though.

I was planning on cutting the wires on the fat grey plug as per the guide here, that's the only electrical modification I know. The starter relay is apparently not necessary, so only the ECU is going in. I'll have to worry about that pigtail later when I can actually drive my car again.

I have a spare plug for the clutch switch at the back of the pedal, but since I'm bypassing it I figure no wiring has to be down there.

Psh, you don't need that plug for reverse lights. If you look in the reverse plug theirs 2 male prongs, and on your harness you'll have 2 female prong hole thingies (hehehe). Heres watcha do:

First go here.

Then if you don't wanna wait for it but want reverse lights in the mean time, take female connectors 16/18g (blue) sized and hook about 5" of wire to them. Plug each one into a prong sticking out of the trans. Then take the other end, attach male connectors and to them and plug them into the harness. Tape around the females, and the plug whole to keep them from touching/stuff getting in there and bam you have reverse lights.

I have mine hooked up like this since I didn't feel like spending the money to buy a switch and I still have the auto harness so their just hooked into it laugh.gif Mines a more permanent version though.

All it is a I/O switch inside the tranny that either allows the current to flow through, or stops it from. It won't affect the ecu if you don't have it hooked up, you just won't have reverse lights (which aren't legally required either iirc)

Okay, thank you very much for taking the time to write that - it's people like you that make this site, guy. On my harness, the reverse switch is three-prong. Glad to know it should start though, I will try your solution later on. I hardly reverse and I just want to get 'er finished. I'm going to mount the tranny now, hopefully no snags and she runs today. Been down for three days, it's killing me...kindasad.gif

I'd put money on it that you'll have the car put back together today.

I'd put money on it that it's not really butter. tongue.gif

Also that I will have a Miata soon, and that differential bearings are a bitch.

Youre welcome bud.

That 3rd one that's in the middle, small, horizontal at the top of the harness plug isn't used. The 2 vertical big ones plug into the 2 on the s54. Unless your s54 has 3 in which case I have no idea. Hahaha.

Umm couple of other things that I forgot to mention not related to the wiring:

-The bracket that attaches from the trans to the motor mount is different between the a1xx and the s54, but fear not, all you have to do is grind off the piece that doesn't fit on the s54 (hold it up next to it and you'll instantly be able to tell) *If yours came with the bracket, youre a lucky man.

-Also involving this bracket, when you try to put the bolts into it so it attaches to the s54 you'll notice that the holes on the bracket are ever so slightly off, again bust out the grinder and slowly (checking your work very often) grind out a relief in the holes unto you can snugly fit both bolts in. *Again if you got it, move along.

-The trans sleeve doesn't mate perfectly as a couple holes are unable to line up. No bigy, its not supposed to be a perfect seal (the air gap allows moisture out, and cool air in for the clutch, pp, fw) and you'll be able to fit plenty enough bolts to secure it. *If yours came with this too I'm jelly

-You need to get the front and back motor mounts on first (stupid crossmember, that thing is a PAIN), then do the drivers, and lastly carefully keep adjusting the motor till the passenger slides in. Sometimes its easier to bolt the mount to the frame then push the motor over to it, or sometimes vice versa. I've done it both ways, just remember if it doesn't want to line up no matter what, your PSP is in bind and you'll have to free that up first so you don't break it. Speaking of the PSP I tried to free mine with a crowbar...don't do that, it doesn't work and I busted out seals in it from stressing it so much when I did my timing belt. Now I have a weekend job when I get the time to change it out mad.gif

Did you put in the clutch pedal assembly yet?

Both brake and clutch pedal assembly are in. As is the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, TOB, fork, C52, in that order. We ended up putting a jack under the transmission, with a rope tied around the slimmer end; as it got further up we both helped it to line up and surprisingly, she actually did within about 15 minutes. I'm surprised the clutch didn't have to be recentered. Spent a few hours tidying up the mounts and crossmember, they went up without issues. Your ideas for fitment and tightening were thankfully had by my friend and that went without issue. Mounted the hydraulic lines. Axles fought back a little, passenger side is completely in fine. Stuck the driver's axle into the tranny, other end in the hub - she's too short (new Duralast).

F19387460189623850289732869287527ck.

So hopefully, I can pick one up tomorrow because this is killing me from the inside out.
