I have a 1999 ST204 that keeps breaking axles. They are the Axles from O'Reilly's and the inner joint keeps failing. it is usually in hard left hand turns. I'm guessing that they are too short but i'm not sure. Has anyone else had similar problems?

I just had my drivers side axle replaced with a refurbished Oreillys last week. o.O -------------------- |

Did you take it into the shop to get it installed? Did they reuse the bracket that holds the passenger axle in place? -------------------- |

I installed it myself, so I'm sure they were all installed correctly.

Their was a thread a couple of years ago about the same problem turned out oreilly auto was giving out 5th gen (90-93 Celicas) s53 trans axles as 6th gen (94-99 Celicas) s54 trans axles u "might" be having the same problems although I had a refurb pass front axle from oreilly on my old 6th gen celi and never had a problem (I installed it myself too). I believe the 5th gen celicas had a shorter (PF) axle length then the 6th gen and a member was having similar issues with his axles falling off he later found out that oreilly's was giving him 5th gen axles.

ST guys, where do you buy your axles? I'm having the same issue as above where Autozone and Advance only seem to have the 5th gen version for sale. At least, the driver's side for my C52 was slightly too short, about two-three centimeters. I have heard that Carquest sells reputable axles for those who have had this issue as well. I'd like to get me car running....

I bought my axles from rockauto.com but that would mean about 2~3 days of extra downtime Ferdi.

Thanks for the advice guys. I had to be at work on the 20th so only local pick-up was possible in my timeframe. Neither Autozone, Advance, Napa, or Carquest sell the correct axle for the C52, at least not the driver's side. The part number of the axle that I previously bought is TO-8100, which is too short in compressed form. That part number cross-checks at all four stores.
A manager at Carquest was nice enough to make a phone call, ordered an OEM axle made by EMPI and saved my ass. In the future, I will order from RockAuto, I don't think Duralast is the way to go.
