Since I've decided to keep my Celica after all, figured I'd do something about the only thing really holding it back: the clear peel... Obviously the first thing I'll try doing is wet-sanding the afflicted area and try to touch up the clear, try and save the paint that's there. My concern though is the paint that's exposed will disappear in the process, then that leaves me with an even bigger problem. The only aerosol can I can find for my colour costs $30 per 10oz can... Though doing that it won't match the existing paint. Another option is a full car respray, but then we're talking multiple hundreds and lots of work for a colour I don't even like. Yes I could respray the car black, but then every time I open the hood or peel back the carpet and saw red I'd twitch and collapse. So the only other option is to just cover up the areas that're bad and hide it. My thought was maybe to just sticker bomb the areas that've peeled. Which I'm not crazy about the phase, but it has to look better than peeling clear... That or paint something on in the area, I don't know. I'm thinking about painting the door handles, mirrors, tag bezel, and maybe the headlight "pockets" in black. Anyhow, some pictures are below to illustrate the issue at hand. Any suggestions that don't include PlastiDip are welcomed.

Buy a second Celia that is black with a dead engine, put your engine into said celica and you now have a black one -------------------- ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

I thought about buying a black shell. Would be such a pain to swap EVERYTHING over though... Alternativly, you could: Buy a black shell and a 3S-GTE or 5S-FE (Then turbo it) and get a car that is both black and faster Fits both criteria This post has been edited by rentaspace: Jul 16, 2013 - 6:59 PM -------------------- ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

Really just want to take care of the issue at hand for now. Problem with repairing clear is any more that you put on will be out of place with the rest of the car... -------------------- ------------------------------| White '94 Celica | Bought 11/05/12 | Sold 12/05/15 |------------------------------ |

have you thought about a two tone paint job or some racing stripes as a temporary setup?
I'm not much into it but hey it might look better than peeling clear. -------------------- *1997 Celica ST - 3SGE Greytop BEAMS *1977 Celica RA29 - Classic Cruiser *2005 Matrix AWD - dedded but still hanging around like a ghost 2019 Rav4 XLE Premium - Sports mode is fun. |

Really just want to take care of the issue at hand for now. Problem with repairing clear is any more that you put on will be out of place with the rest of the car... I'll overlap it so it'll feather in, and there'll just be spots of nicer paint. Less noticeable than flaky dull spots anyhow. have you thought about a two tone paint job or some racing stripes as a temporary setup? I'm not much into it but hey it might look better than peeling clear. I thought about painting the spoiler black and then running stripes that follow the edges of the spoiler to the front of the car. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Sand down all the bad clear coat and put on a new one. That's what I'm going to try doing first. I'm just afraid the exposed paint is so dead it'll go right through it. Guess I'll find out sometime tomorrow which path I'll be going. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

You know you want another color I do, so very badly. I can't afford to do a full body respray though, and I'm too OCD to have a red engine bay on a black car. If the car was black it wouldn't bother me though painting the car blue for example. For the longest time the engine bay and interior metal of cars was black regardless of exterior colour. The only reason I bought the car was that it was my uncle's, had it not been for that I'd held out for another colour. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
