I need your opinions....

I currently have 16" Avanti Mags and dunlop SP tyres, and I'm interested in upgrading to directional sport tyres...

The only issue i have, is that the for the tyres i want (Sport, lower noise, etc) Are very expensive.. Plus im not really that keen on the mag wheels that i have currently.

I've been told that upgrading to 17'' mags that i'd be better off, as i can style my car, tyres are more readily available and are cheaper.

So, here is what i'd like to ask... What do you think would suit my car better?

You probably will notice a ride quality decrease with 17s and low profile tyres. I know I did. But the car looks better with 17s. A trade off. Directionals are quite a noisy form of tyre. I changed to assymetricals this week and did notice less noise. The tyres I went to are Toyo C1S. They are 215x45. Don't go to 40s.

I always liked your current wheels, but if you get new ones I would DEFINITELY get the second set!!! I think the first ones would just get lost in the colour and not look nearly as striking.

+1, on the spot. Dont get 40series or you'll end up like mines. Tiny side wall with extra wheel well... Lol.

+1, I would keep the ones you have now but if you want new ones. Get the second on. Just because the first one would look like every other black/dark rims. Lol.

I recommend a 16x8 instead, which gives you a lower wheel and tire price. You can still get all the grip your Celica wants with a 205/50, and you don't gain the extra weight. Positive loss all around. Whoever told you that 17" is better refers only to breadth of tire selection, since it is the most popular size. That does not mean that selection for the 16" doesn't exist.

I actually like the wheels you have now, if you were closer I'd look into purchasing those from you.

By the way, if your prompting factor for the wheel upgrade is performance tyres, I sincerely hope you weren't planning to use the ones that are in that wheel and tyre package.... they will be nowhere near as good as your current Dunlop's!!!

I just upgraded to 16" 7th gen rims from the stock 15's. Much greater selection in the 205/50/16 than before. It is actually our rolling diameter that is unusual though, not just this size... the 215/45/17's (which is the size with the greatest availability by far) are not actually the correct size for our cars, and will leave your speedometer slightly incorrect. That said, it is close enough and I would get them if I went 17".

I got some part worn Yokohama C.Drives which I had on the front for about 2 weeks then swapped to the back and got some new Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres for the front (both sets 205/50/16). The Yokohamas will probably give a similar performance to your current tyres, but the PS3's were a big step up again.... SOO MUCH GRIP!!! biggrin.gif I was upgrading from cheap tyres like are in this kit, and I will NEVER go back again.

Just bought myself a set of 17" Advanti Eco Motions a few weeks ago and decided to upgrade from the plastic tyres that were on the car when I bought it. Some genius decided it was a good idea to run kingstar tyres... yeahnaaa
I've just put Nitto NT555 215/45/17s on all round and the grip! Even with beams they make wheelspinning an effort laugh.gif
Mind you I got them with a 20% discount cos I'm special (definitely not because a mate works where I bought them *cough*)
However if you're willing to spend a bit of coin you can't go wrong here

+1, if you want performance then stay with the 16s with 205/50. If you don't really care and rather have a nicer looking wheel then get 17s. Or just get light weight wheels like mine. ;P

I guess i don't really mind the mags i have, its just i wouldn't mind a new look, ya know? I wasn't really 100% sure on 17's as i had them on my last car... They weren't too bad, but everyone who i took in the car said it rough to ride in. So i'd be better off to stick to 16's if i get new rims? And go for non-directional tyres?

I prefer the ride and handling characteristics of a lighter wheel, so for that reason alone I vote 16".

That and they look better. Anything bigger and the sidewall is too thin. I hate low profile tires, only supercars can pull it off.

It just doesn't look right, I like being able to see tire. Not to mention ride comfort, and the danger of potholes. Like the new Camaro, Challenger, Mustang etc... that come with 20's from the factory, I'd have to downsize. tongue.gif

I guess... They only really suited the last car because of the color combination, White 17's against a Dark Metalic Blue finish... And yeah, potholes were horrible. I'd have to avoid every one i saw, and when i did, i certainly knew about it :S
