Really disappointed I missed this meet! You made it to dinner. All good! -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

I'm home. Have been for a little bit now.
So I'm driving along the back roads enjoying myself and this fly the size of my ****ing thumb just pops into my car. It's buzzing around, bounces off the pass side A pillar, the windshield, then comes to rest in the defrost vent. After I stop at a sign, I reach forward to try to grab it, it crawls deeper so I take off. As soon as I'm rounding the corner it flies onto the drivers side A pillar, I make a grab for it, it flew and landed on my damn NECK. I grabbed it off and tossed it out the window. Otherwise uneventful. Of course now that the meet is over I feel like I've scrubbed the tires up enough to start getting traction on them. The last run down 71 was great, no traffic and no people. I got to push it just a little within my comfort zone and it was great. Very grippy and stable and predictable. I can still lock wheels up on the street with stock brakes stopping though, I'm surprised by that. -------------------- |

Had a great time at the meet today, glad everyone was able to make it! I have well over 250 pictures to sort through between my camera and phone, so here are just a few of the cruise to dinner. I'll get the rest up later.

I lied. Got a few more. Might upload more later, but I'd like to sort through them a little better first.
Somebody stole my car and left a bumper in its place... Drew caught a fish with his bare hands... Luke made it out to dinner with us. Looked in my mirror on the way to the hotel, swear I see a Celica.... Yep, Luke and Maggie caught up with us. Had a little fun on the highway. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Had a great time with everyone! Some really nice looking cars out there. Props to the Beams from RI making it out there, and props for letting me drive it.
Meet cliff notes (will probably miss some funny stuff, feel free to remind me): -Almost all Celica's, and an Evo. -A Beams from RI. -Lot's of good food (puppy chow, giant fluffy cookies, salsa, meats, sweet corn (see below)). -Sweet corn issue: Butter and salt OR Mayo and Parmesan cheese? -Mark and Chris made up. -Because Mark. -Hiking. Mud. Water. Fun! -Dead carp, and slapping of said fish. (Will post video ASAP) -Rock skipping. -Cruise to Minooka for pizza. -Pizza was good. -------------------- 2000 GT-S 6 SPD... SOLD! |

@ Chris, the only reason you were at the top of the hill before me is because you were in front of me. Ask the 7A 6th gen behind me (I am so bad with names, the big silly man). I slowed down to let you rip up the hill and then went up. Tail gating is a huge pet peeve of mine so I make sure not to do it to others, especially when there's blind corners, pedestrians, bicyclist, and motorcycles that could be on the wrong part of the road. I like to follow the 'better to go slow and do it 100 times than to go fast and do it once' school of thought. I really do not play with that area that has the wall since so many drivers get scared coming down when they see the wall and run way wider than they need to and almost straddle the yellow line there. It's a pretty unsafe area, not knocking you but that's not where I feel confident.
I did get that one good run down the road in at the end of the day with no cars in front of me, I hung out in 2nd gear and bounced off rev limit a couple times and spent a good amount of time on the big cam lobes. I'm having a hard time getting used to the Z2's though, they feel great but I keep anticipating them to let go one way or the other since that's what I've been driving with for the past 4 years. They're very stable and feel better the harder they're pushed, I haven't even scratched the surface of what they can do yet and I really hope I never find their limit except on a track. I need to get out to some AutoCross with Mark this fall or spring to learn what this car does at it's limits since I don't know. So when's the fall meet? -------------------- |

Stef and I drove Sunday morning and got home Monday at 5am.
The Beams averaged about 31 mpg for the trip, the best tank we got was 425 miles @ 32.88mpg. It was worth the drive out there to meet some good people. The hike was fun and the view was amazing. There's nothing like meeting and talking to other Celica owners, and I actually met Noberto and his family. That was worth the drive in itself. thanks for having us at the meet guys. -------------------- |
