the slotted peice around the antenna is threaded, put a few layers of tape down around the antenna, and use a flat head screwdriver, put it in a slot, and tap it counter-clockwise to loosen it.
there is a special tool made to remove it, but 99% of people use the method discribed above.
(i use the tape to protect the paint, just in case you happen to slip with the screwdriver, just dont whack it hard...slow and easy.)

Good thread. Just what I needed.
Can these style antennas simply be screwed in afterwards?

There is an easier way to do it and it does not include glue. Read close to the last entry if interested.

Overkill, you said that you bought an antenna from a 2000 Celica, but which part was that? I'm looking around on ebay, and there's the stubby kinds, the motorized antenna unit, and some aftermarket stuff.

(Now that I'm searching tonight, looks like there's some more likely possibilities showing up.... of course....)

Stuff like this?

example 1

Or This?

Or perhaps this?

I realize you went to a junk-yard to get it, but I have no car, so I'm doing this all from the seat of my desk.

Thanks for the info!

Jeebus, The part from the 2000 celica was everything except the mast. Basically if you find a salvage yard with a celica that has the antenna still... all you have to do is unscrew the silver nut piece on top, and unbolt the interior piece from inside the fender (to get to it, you have to go through the hatch or tail light). Make sure you get the silver nut piece, and the black piece that sits under it. In one of the threads that I posted, there is a way that you can bend the bracket that bolts to the interior so that it will now fit the 94-99, however I simply left that alone and did not bolt it. There isnt much to the lower portion of the antenna, so I simply tightened the silver nut like it was on the 2000 celica and it holds its location just fine. My radio reception is 100% better and I love the way it looks.

*Edit* this might help... you will only need items #2, #3, #4, & #5

Use a pair of thin plyers and slot it in opposit ends. Turn it out.
Inside behind the boot plastic, unscrew the motor with a 10mm socket and the power cable and antenna cable just unclips.
I removed mine and ran it up to the roof lining and used an amplified hidden antenna strip so mine is never seen.

Yeah that can work.
You just need to extend the antenna cable and power cable to the roof and drill a hole.
I didn't want to drill a hole so I kept mine hidden with one of these behind the head lining

Hey,

as I was wiring in my DRL to my cig lighter power source, I was taking a look behind my console for the wiring mess that the previous owner left me when he took out his 7" touchscreen stereo and replaced it with a Hyundai deck that didn't work. Now, I'm assuming that the stereo didn't work because the harness is all fubar, and the radio didn't work because I couldn't find the antenna cord that plugs in.

is this black wire beside the ebrake the antenna plug-in cord? If so, I've got a lot to do before I get any stereo working in my car. : /
