I'm replacing the head on my 96 celi. Fried some valves with nitrous... Lol.. Learned my lesson tho. Anyway. I've noticed this new head I picked up doesn't have a water outlet for the intake manifold. And mine does.. Can I just drill a hole? It looks like it would be fine. But I want expert opinion. And does the intake really need coolant going through it? Thanks in advance. Need am answer asap so I can get back on the road. 7afe btw

why on earth would you run nitrous through an economy 7afe? was the power goal a whole 120hp?

You sure you don't mean EGR passage?

It made quite an amazing amount of torque. 65 wet shot. Cylinder 1 got lean because its farthest from the intake. Melted the aluminum in combustion chamber so valves can't seat. . This hole I'm talking about is on the right side of the intake side of the head. If you're looking at the engine from the front of the car. Is it egr? Can post pictures tomorrow. My first guess was a water passage. So any way to make this head work or do I need to go back to the junkyard
Edit: yeah I'm about 90% sure its egr now... I guess this is a question if it'll work or not. Egr delete? I don't care about cel. Will it affect driveability? This post has been edited by beefstrudel: Oct 30, 2013 - 12:43 AM |

You won't feel any changes from eliminating the EGR. I eliminated mine and the car runs just fine without it.

i would check the pistons. if you did that much damage in the head, the lower section might be hurt too.

Bottom end is fine. It still ran just on 3 cylinders. Have to drive about 80 miles home like that. Are the 7a's pistons iron or aluminum? Really hoping they're iron

Pretty sure. Should the coolant passages be the same on 95 and 96? This is all the junkyards fault too because they marked the car I got the head from as a 96. Turns out its a 95! Grr. I just really hope I can make this one work because I've already cleaned it up really well.

You sure you even got a head from an A engine?

Definitely a 7a head. Just non egr. Do the water jackets line up on all A engines? I haven't pulled my head all the way yet. Dont wanna chance anything rusting. Not gonna take it all the way off till I'm 100% sure I have the right one. I'm just going to the yard in morning and pulling one off a 96 with egr. Mines a 96 so everything should be dandy then. Ita def an A head. Narrow valve angle slave cam setup.

The S head on the 5SFE is also slave cam and narrow angle. Cam gears should be all the way at the end of the head, not toward the middle.

Its off a 7a for sure. I know the 5s is mounted at a different angle. I can tell the engines apart pretty easily. I'm going to the junkyard in about an hour to pull a head off a 96 so I'll have egr and no worry about head lining up. Good thing i bought the 4 dollar warranty lol.

I was going to say... Couldnt you just use your 96 intake manifold on the 95 head in order to have the egr?

There's a hole in the head that goes into the Mani for egr. I have it running now... But now my problem is on the interstate it randomly blows thick clouds of oil smoke. Valve stem seals?
