This is quite possibly my favourite GT4 out there.



I spoke to the owner and he said he made everything him self.
Now I too make quite a few things and though Im not a fan of the lights and spoiler I do want to make the diffuser and canards.
Canards are already available to buy from almost anywhere but the diffuser....
I can't think of a good way to tackle this because it's really difficult to lay fibreglass neatly upside down.
The flat over the bumper is easy as you have the bumper to lay on but the blank gaps???

So here's the question for those DIY guru's out there:

How would you make this diffuser?

why don't you ask the owner if you can use his diffuser for your own replica...? is that ok?

I did and I doubt that would ever happen.
He's in Paraguay and speaks Spanish only and when I asked about that he didn't respond so i guess its a no.

oh... diffuser like this I always wanted. Exactly this what match and fit OEM bumper and HKS exhaust...

if you make it in CF I will buy it.

I always wondered how a GT wing would look on a 6g.... I kinda like it.

Personally, I would drop the wing a bit lower, but with the diffuser it all just works. Do. Want.

Ive seen many 6G's with GT wings and I love them. I too will eventually have a big spoiler as I'm bored of the TRD or GT-Four spoiler.
This diffuser I must have and determined to make.
I've asked someone to make a CAD drawing of it and will have it sent off to make in carbon.
I have an idea how to make this by hand but like this it'll be trial and error and very time consuming.
Rather have this made by a machine first then replicate it.

Ray,

I would start by making a larger flat sheet of fiberglass off the car that is still able to curve/bendable, then cut it down and put it on the car and then continue working there. Rear diffusers on the main horizontal plain are largely a completely flat surface with a slight curve so that approach might be a start.

OR

you can use fleece / t-shirt and stretch it into place and resin that for a base then move on to fiberglass and mold making. This is commonly used for sub enclosures but might also work for this application.

That wing is also a crap load of rubbish. A real functional wing that is that big would have the supports go THRU the hatch and bolt directly to the frame. It wouldn't be pushing on the hatch itself.

Flexible fibreglass was my initial plan. however bending a single ply sheet causes many variables in form. Ripples, cracking deformation. Even after you resin a few more layers after you have the desired shape.
Then I'd need to join and extend it up the bumper.
But I doubt it'll be very neat unless I make a few versions and spend days doing so.

I thought about stretching a membrane over like how sub builders do. But then again resining it upside is going to be a PITA.

I think the best way is to make a 3D scan of the rear. Remove the exhaust and scan it onto a computer.
That way a 3D model can be made of the tray and modified.
I'll see about having this made out of aluminium maybe before having it made of carbon.

Personally I think the spoiler blade is too short for that look. If it was going to be that high I think it should be at least the width of the car.

Now that's taken care of, I'd start by making a template with easily shape-able materials. Perhaps some thin aluminium sheet metal would be good, as it could be cut and rolled out to get the main shape of the diffuser. Then you can weld on the fins to complete it. Once that's done you can go back and use thicker materials for the actual thing. Can't really think of how to do fiberglass, except maybe use a really big piece of foam and just take forever shaping it out and then can use that for a mould.

I would use a sheet of thin aluminium however I don't have a machine to roll it nicely and it'll be impossible to t make it curve round the bumper perfectly.

Nothing is impossible, you just have to believe. Could do it in sections then weld it all together. Hmm... Take one out of the Honda DIY manual and just use cardboard.

I remember reading an old post about a Custom rear diffuser for our car. I believe he started off with ply wood. He cut it to shape then he used fiberglass over the plywood to make a cast. I can't really remember but he did something like that.

The defuser bit, just make a flat sheet, for the black bit that's shaped to the bumper......just use another bumper and cut it to shape, bond the defuser bit to it, paint, done.

this!!! ^^^ this type of diffuser is just what i want in the rear.

Well if its riveted to the bumper, clearly its not fiberglass lol that would rip right through it.

I believe its carbon. But why would fibreglass be so clearly to rip off? Many kits are of fibreglass and rivited.
I dont intent to make this for retail. I just want one. Plus past experience tells me people wont pay tha asking for things like this.

This was the thread but all the pics are gone. I remember it did come out pretty good. You could reach out and ask for them i guess.

I remember when Mani made his diffuser.
