If its here its going to be pricy. Cheaper in canada. In canada 10k maybe the one here he may be asking 17k. But the. You dont have to deal with registration. But one day customs will knock at your door.

Exactly, I saw that 22k gt4 way overpriced. Sorry. 10k I canada is a better price. Just because it's in the states it costs 12k more.......

remember you guys are talking about in Canada where it's easy to even import an GT-R 34 and im talking about in the states where there is DOT, EPA and NHTSA Certification involved in all cars coming into the states, so if we want to import to canada it will be easy to just pay some paper work and it's done, but if we want to import it into the state we have to go thru costoms, legal work, modification to usdm standards, and last but not least crash testing (oh by the way crash testing requires the person who is importing the car that he or she is buying to supply 2 more cars just for the test) so if im buying 1 for 10k already including shipping and customs paper work. i have to use another 20k to get two more just to do the test. not to mention the modification that needs to meet DOT, EPA, And NHTSA Standards which rings up to minimum 50k total. now if i have to wait till 2020 to import it, it will be easier but i dont have to do the crash test, Dot, and EPA Standards anymore i would just have to worry about getting it pass emissions, piece a cake. because the car would be consider an classic because it's 25+ years old... man after re-reading what i said importing one here is a pain in the @$$ unless it's an 25+ year car.....

Exactly as you said. Just understand you are paying a premium because it's probably one of a handful of legally imported GT-4's and when the car hits 25 years old the price will drop substantially as more are imported. Realistically if you're dead set on the car I'd shoot him an offer of 16k and see what he says. You're low from what he's asking but you can meet in the 18-19k area that way. The car does have a lot going for it since it's low mileage as well but if he won't budge from the $22k price its too high. In another 5 years when they're able to be imported I'd expect that car with the same mileage to go for about $14k (accounting for 5 years added age and going from a handful of GT-4's in the country to several dozen at the least). Goodluck.

Here is one that went to Colorado 4 years ago .He paid 21k for it and wanted around 15k
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=54041&st=0 Anyway 22k is a way to much for that car. I would wait and find a nice stock one . I paid 4500 for my WRC in 2003 with 63k miles and almost 100% stock (female owned in japan) but did have front end damage . Bottom line: that car is worth whatever you will pay for it. Literally nothing else matters, at the end of the day there is a tremendously narrow group of people who are actually interested in buying that car so at the end of the day it's only worth whatever you are willing to pay for it.
I'm not saying that to be rude or cause any offense at all because you can say exactly the same thing about my Celica. It's a $3,000 car at best that I have invested around ~$20,000 into not because that's book value but because that's what it's worth to me. Book value is totally irrelevant when it comes to an ST205 in the States- it's only worth what a buyer will pay. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. And remember you are buying into 17k ~20k car that in 2019 ~ 2020 will be worth 6k. That's a lot of depreciation...
Why not just do the rear conversion, and have money to spare. You can even do a rhd for all that money... Import one from Canada no, keep it as a track car, legalize it on 2020 -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I think in one of the 6gc podcasts Manny actually covers what it would cost to put together your own GT-4 from motor, harness, shell, trans... etc. and I think he worked it out to around $9,000. Lets say you add.... $5k for labor you still end up at $14,000
I could be off on the actual numbers but I know they definitely covered it. This post has been edited by cardshark525: Dec 17, 2013 - 3:03 PM |

I would NEVER spend more than 12k on a mint JDM Gt-four. (It's another story if it's a LHD)
I would much rather wait till they're 25 years old or convert a gt to gt-four. They are absolutely tremendous cars, but why pay more than they're worth.. Way a few years and save your money for mods (cause you know you will mod it) and in the end you'll be much happier in 5 years. This post has been edited by dudeofchaos: Dec 18, 2013 - 4:40 PM |
