Hi!

My drivers door was stuck closed the other day due to ice. I was able to thaw it and got it to open but now its stuck open and the latch is in the position it would be in if the door were closed! This time it is NOT ice because I parked it in a garage to let it thaw and it's still stuck in that position. Obviously I cannot drive the vehicle like this because the door will not close with the latch mechanism in the closed position; right now it just swings freely open. Any thoughts on what is broken/stuck? if nothing else, any links to show me how to successfully remove innards to get a a look at the latch system in the door itself?

try to spray some de icer inside the lock mechanism. chances are the spring broke and wont latch close, or may be stuck. you have to take a look inside...

Id try using a screwdriver to see whether the latch will open when you lift the handle.

this should work, ive had to persuade a latch in the past to open up. not sure how it closed when the door was open but it was a couple of years ago and has not done it since

i agree with above.
use the screw driver like it was the pin the door latches to and pull out on it as you pull on the door handle and it should come open. then treat that latch with some white lithium grease or something
