Alright my father in law found a Toyota CT-26 Turbo in almost new condition and I am wanting to install it in my 5sfe celica and I was wondering if I really need to swap the head and go 5sgte? Or is it possible in low boost (about 4-9) applications, because if so in theory all I would have to is get a manifold made and then the normal turbo stuff; wastegate, intercoolers, oil lines, oil pan, 315 green injectors, etc.
Has anyone seen it done or done it themselves? This post has been edited by Poonicus: Dec 27, 2013 - 11:20 PM -------------------- "As a professor of science, I assure you we did, in fact, evolve from filthy monkey-men." -Prof. Farnsworth

first of all its a CT-26. and use the search and read the stickies. ****.. I missed that when I was typing and I did but most of what I've found is everyone does the 5sfe turbo charged on 3gste head and other 3gste parts, I was just curious if you could just use the 5sfe parts making it a 5sfte instead of 5sgte for low boost applications 4-9psi. -------------------- "As a professor of science, I assure you we did, in fact, evolve from filthy monkey-men." -Prof. Farnsworth

Generally it is cheaper, faster, and more reliable in the long run to just go 3sgte instead of fiddling with the 5sfe.

Im running a boosted 5S right now trying several tuning methods. Right now im using the AEM FIC again to try and tune it. I think the ODBII ECU is just going to fight me too much. If you have a pre 96 car then it might be a little easier. That is one of the options im going to try. Re-pin the harness for a 94 ECU, however that also requires running more wires and changing distributor because they are different. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Yeah I have the ODBI ecu so I didn't think it would be too big of a problem, and I'd love to put a 3gste into my celica but I can't find one that is an affordable price online and no one around here locally has one that I know of, I don't know if it's because I don't really know any of the 6th gen owners around here or what.

having done this (though with a 3sfe), would say brilliant way to get to know your engine and how to tune them, but if I was about to start again would do a 3sgte swap. DOn't regret it though And prob will 3sgte it at some point, having learnt a lot.

Boosting the 5S-FE is a learning process and you better make sure you start with a good, sound engine to avoid MAJOR problems.
With that said, you can use that good CT26 and get a 2nd Gen 3SGTE stock exhaust manifold to go with it. However you will need to route your oil lines from one of the block's pressurized oil holes (there's one on the front of the block about halfway down the block below cyl #4) and also run the water lines (not necessary but recommended) Oil return will require welding your oilpan or getting a 2nd gen 3SGTE oil pan with the oil return already there. You can't clock the turbo enough without making a custom wastegate actuator bracket to run a clean FMIC setup so you'll need to do a 180 degree bend over the cylinder head when using the CT-26 as well. You'll need to buy or make some kind of downpipe (Berk, EMSPowered, ATS) to go with it too, and a custom exhaust system, preferrably 3" in diameter. It's not as simple as bolting on the turbo and that's it. That's just the mechanical side of things too, let's not forget about the more important part of it which is using a GOOD ECU to control everything. It is highly recommended to get a standalone ECU installed and tuned, unless you wanna do it halfassed and get the supra injectors, mr2 MAP sensor and SAFC piggyback. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

The DIYPNP I built for my car cost me about 500 bucks and has been nothing short of amazing. Id love to see someone install it on a 5sfe. The 5S distributor doesn't run well with Megasquirt in general, unlike the 3S distributor. However, he can install a 98+ oil pump, crank timing gear and crank sensor, and use the distributor's single-tooth trigger (cam signal) as a cam sensor and even fire the coil directly with a Megasquirt or use external coils. But we both agree on one thing, he should be installing a standalone ECU. I think he soon will... -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

im using the FIC because I already had it. I would love to go stand alone and I will eventually. Since i have an AEM for my All-trac, im going to build an actual 5S-GTE. using the 3S-GTE head should work because that is what the AEM is expecting.

I was thinking out going the route with the piggy back msd btm 5462 and a tach adapter. But I've decided that I'm going to go 5S-FTE instead of 5S-GTE. -------------------- "As a professor of science, I assure you we did, in fact, evolve from filthy monkey-men." -Prof. Farnsworth
