any updates? you get that opti-coat put on? paint looks great though, cant wait to see how she looks when coated, will have much more free time now that you dont need to wax your paint or really try hard to keep her clean!. think yours will be the first opti-coated 6gc ive seen!.

well its been a while since i've really been able to work on the cars. But recently i've been really motivated to work on the celica again so i thought i'de share. also mods could prolly move this thread to the project section if anyone sees this. As always, sorry for the terrible phone pics
had this sitting in my shed for a while now so i descided to get it on the trailer and into the shop. a couple of months ago but then got sent to chicago for work so it sat. untill this evening when i got back my dinky hoist cant lift this with the tranny attached and my other bay has the rav in it so i cant use the beam and chain puller. If the tractor fit in the shop i could lift it and drive the trailer out but for now it looks like i'm gonna have to work in the trailer petty happy i got to spend a couple of hours on it,(even though most was tring to figure out how to get it on the engine stand) but i did get the intercooler heatshields. and exhaust side brackets, manifold and turbo off the motor no way it'll be ready to drop in before the meet this weekend. but i am excited i got the time off and can spend thanksgiving with the family. and catch the tx celica meeton sat -------------------- JN 3:16

got a couple of options with the celica/mr2 parts laying around. but simplest will prolly be the s54 since its that only complete tranny/axle set i have plus its already in the car.
also i'll prolly have to pm you and ask some questions as i get closer to being ready to drop this in. This post has been edited by JasonTX: Nov 22, 2013 - 12:13 AM -------------------- JN 3:16

chugged away at it a little more this evening. got the intake manifold, fuelrail, valve cover hoses and wiring moved out of the way, and tried to label everything i could. The motor looks pretty good no signs of oil leaks and under the valve cover still looks silver.
when you guys clean your intake manifold do you just call a machine shop and ask them to drop it in a parts washer? i've never done it before and have several parts i wanna clean up and paint. This post has been edited by JasonTX: Nov 22, 2013 - 6:12 PM -------------------- JN 3:16

All depends on what your plans are. If you're going to drop it in stock then you can probably get away with cleaning it yourself with a good degreaser. But if you plan to build it and separate all the pieces then the machine shop will clean them anyways.

I've been snooping the forums and online for parts, I came back from the meet kinda late last night, swung by the shop and found these.
still on the fence about breaking apart the motor since my power goals are pretty modest. also question for those guys who have gone awd, gt4 brakes or done a 5x114.3 rear conversion. My searching seems to indicate the rear hubs on the gt use the same wheel bearings as the gt4. Does the rear hub on the gt also accept the rear gt4 spindle? i was gonna press one out to compare but thought i would ask incase someone knew already. BTW. even though they live 88miles away(i clocked it on the way home) and they made me feel old lol, It was nice to meet malhar and edgar last night. got to put in a couple hours tonight before i had to pack up since i head out in the morning . got the wiring harness off and all the brackets holding the tranny to the block. all i have thats left is to lift it up so i can remove the transmission and get the motor on my stand.
also my radiator sprung a leak from a hairline crack in the plasic top. so it looks like i'm ordering a new rad. advanced has a replacement like oem with plastic tops for 80 bucks or an all aluminum one for 100. the plastic has served well for the last 160k miles and 20 years so i dont doubt its sufficent to do the job but i'm inclined to go the all aluminum for 20 bucks more just to have it. anyone have any experience on these units? -------------------- JN 3:16

well back in town for jury duty tomarrow morning. It did give me a few hours after church to plug away on the motor though. finally got it off the trailer (with my tractor) and removed the tranny, clutch and pressure plate.I also took off the ac compressor, ps pump , alt, and the brackets holding them all on. I have a couple of bolts on the flywheel that are just about rounded off. i was gonna weld a nut onto the head of the bolt and try that, unless anyone has any better ideas
aside from that i started putting some if the other stuff back together a little cleaning , paint and some steel braided lines for the turbo cleaned out the TB real good with carb cleaner then got that misc sensors and brackets back on the intake manifold. a quick pic of some of the stuff ready to go once the motor is ready i wanted to get a pic of the of my tractor engine hoist putting the motor on the stand, but my phone died as i was snapping the above pics.also My radiator arrived too so i'm gonna need to get that in once i have all these parts moved up far enough to fit my car in the shop. also just a random pic of the car from earlier Uploaded with ImageShack.us -------------------- JN 3:16

well it took a lot of work by hand to get to this point . i'm gonna find a place with a buffing wheel rather than spend more time one it. on a more productive note. i ordered new bearings for the timing belt tensioners through amazon to help with 6gc. I usually use ebay if it helps the site i'll make the switch. also i got a real camera to take pics with so hopefully that'll make the images less blurry This post has been edited by JasonTX: Jan 8, 2014 - 9:31 PM -------------------- JN 3:16

had a little time this evening so plugged away at the motor a bit more. had to lose the flywheel before i could get it on the stand , but also got the new cam gears on and crank, lower cover, mount, timing belt, idlers, waterpump, coolant hardlines and most of the hoses off. aside from that just a lot of cleaning with the wire brush and hopefully soon i'll be getting a bit of paint on there.
quick question is this blocked off port actually something. or just another potential oil drain? This post has been edited by JasonTX: Jan 15, 2014 - 8:36 PM -------------------- JN 3:16

got the W2A heat exchanger and pump today from bsamps. Ben you did such a great job packing the stuff up i almost had to go front mount cause i couldent get it out of the box, thanks for taking the time bud
also got a little paint on the block and everything off that need to be off before i set it back on the engine stand. i only have a few days before i leave for work again so i've been tring to spend at least an hour on it in the evenings, consequently my shop is a mess. also the first of the parts i ordered via amazon link from 6gc, it's cool to be able to support the site and get to feed my habit at the same time haha. i may have to get a little point and shoot from amazon too i've been using my wife's cannon and its too big to run around with i'm am afraid i'm gonna break the lens or something. -------------------- JN 3:16
