when I have to suddenly stop, my brakes will start 'clicking' and won't work, like they're grinding on something. when i pump the brake it stops.
someone told me its a brake sensor?

what could this be and how should i fix it

yikes! if you step on the brake and hear grinding/crunching that generally means you have a brake pad so badly worn that the metal has begun digging into your rotor.
You would need to replace the brake pads and get the rotors resurfaced at the auto parts store, or buy new rotors.
If you continue to drive with them dragging you will probably ruin the caliper too and have to replace it as well.
if you need to pump the brake pedal to get it to stop you may have air in the brake lines that needs to be bled out. which would be a part of the operation if you replaced the caliper anyway.
If you take the brake pads off and you can get the caliper to compress back in then it should be ok and you can get away with just doing the pads and rotors.

I would check this first, I think the sensors are just for the ABS system, the brakes will still work even if the ABS doesn't.
even if you're not a pro mechanic just changing the pads and rotors is easy, idk if we have any threads on this forum but I bet you can find a bunch of how-to on youtube.

and if you check out your pads/rotors and the pads look good and there are not big scrapes in the metal or something then you may have a problem that needs a factory tech trained to work on the ABS

well, the grinding only happens sometimes. The brakes work great otherwise. It happens most often on ice when I need to stop. It's SO WEIRD!!! lol

well that is definitely the ABS system, ...that may be the way it's supposed to work. unless it's just not stopping at all.

Pumping the brakes sounds kinda scary. Are your wheels loose or have a bad wheel bearing? A wheel bearing could make all kind of noise since it would throw the brakes and the wheel at a weird angle, and would also push in you caliper making you need to pump the brakes to get sufficient brake pedal.

dude, you have ABS. that's what it's suppose to do. It pulses the brakes so that your wheels don't lock up.
I personally hate it, which is why I took the system out of my car.
