Hey all,
I'm always looking for something fun to do to my gen 6, well today I was driving my gen 7; I looked down, and said, why not shove the gen 7 center console in the gen 6 car.... so I went to searching and I can't find a single article or forum post where someone has done this. I'm tempted, anyone given it a try? Rob |

Why ruin a good thing? I like the shiny grey finish, and the configuration better than the current, the cup holders are nicer than those that slide out. I suppose 99% of all car related things like this are a matter of opinion. I personally think the 6th gen has the best looking of the Celica's (though I do love the area wrapped around the steering wheel of the 4th gen). I will give you the cup holders suck in the 6th gen ... if you even want to call them that. Wait ... are you just talking about the part from the shifter (where it meets the dash) to the storage area or are we talking the whole center area up on the dash as well (like the HVAC controls and radio area)? Cause that's what I like on the 6th and dislike on the 7th. The area of the shifter to the storage area I would probably area are better designed on the 7th. Though I like the high storage area to rest my elbow on. -------------------- 99 Celica GT-S

7GC interior is hella cheap and plasticy. If anything swap the 6GC interior over to a 7GC.

QUOTE I'm thinking from the heating controls back would be a way to go, so hvac, shifter, storage area.. Hmm ... well again to each their own with the styling, not a fan myself but I can also understand wanting something custom or to have a project to work on and if you really like the 7th gen dash then that's all that matters. That being said, it can be done with some fiberglass work to mold it into the rest of the 6th gen dash and then paint it. I think that if you just took the part that's on the floor (from the front of the shifter to the end of the storage) you could probably make it fit with some minor fabrication. -------------------- 99 Celica GT-S

I can't believe somebody would prefer 7gen interior to a 6gen I fell in love with this car just for its interior...
7gen dash looks like something a Hyundai developer would design while on acid... -------------------- |

No, no, no.,.. I don't want to screw with the look and aesthetics of the interior. I just want to eliminate the ashtray and reces a cup holder where it sits.
I'm so sick of shifting around my morning coffee, and if I could drop it down in the center console more like my Gen 7 Celica had, I'd be much happier, heck I'd even prefer the style the Camry used in the 1999 with the flip-up doors. I'm going this weekend to the u-pull locally to see what kind of items I can find. |

If you'd prefer better you can get cup holders that mount under your stereo head unit. It's a single DIN unit that mount's like a radio and cup holders pop out. This is available as a somewhat rare JDM official 6gc equipment, or as an universal cheap version. But you need to have a double DIN central panel and a single DIN head unit.
I you really want that 7gc compartment I'm sure you'll find a way, but it can prove very difficult to fit it together. My simple solution to the cup holder problem is that I just don't use it, which means no coffee in the car -------------------- |

I have a 7th gen, your interiors are much nicer. My 93 Prizm interior was nicer.
That being said, everything else about the car makes up for the sea of plastic. You don't notice it when you're pulling lateral G's around hairpins. I think you'll find the 7th gen cup holders as poorly placed, they may hold things better but they're right behind the shifter so you're boned if you want to shift with cups in the car unless you do an awkward reach up and over and dangle your arm down like a crane maneuver. -------------------- |

Just find one of these, problem solved. Also the only interior parts from a 7th gen that should go into a 6th are the seats.

The 7th gen seats are quite comfortable, but hard to get back out of. I find myself taking several minutes to tumble out of the car at the end of a long day.
