I wanted to ask if anyone has successfully mounted these calipers, i read it on one of the threads but i didn't find out if they finished it. i bought a set of calipers and lined them to my knuckle but the bolt holes don't line up 100% it looks like i would have to drill the hole a bit more and thread the knuckle. aside from that the 4runner calipers wont accept a rotor over 21mm according to the specs. i want to know if any one actually mounted those on a 6thgen or it's just speculation. i have already tried a vw rotor but no dice. i'm going to try a 04 sti rotor which is 5/100 and it looks it will sit the rotor further back in and might work with the caliper. i want to know if it's necessary to trim the caliper mounting points.

that guy never finished that 4runner caliper swap, he ended up doing the gt4 swap, that's why i posted this one, and before i mess up the calipers by grinding them i wanted to know if anyone had successfully accomplished this swap.

I am running 97 4runner calipers, first of all they were PITA to install, but i spent a total 200 bucks on the parts on it. first of all the bolt holes on the calipers almost line up perfectly. I still had to tap my hubs like the gt4 hubs, and drill my calipers bolt holes to accept the bigger bolts. the pain in the ass part was i had to machine the calipers to b able to use my gt rotors. i basically lined up the caliper to the rotor and measured how much i had to trim of the mounting points. once i figured that part out, i found that the 4runner caliper rotors are thinner than the gt ones so what i did instead of thinning out the life of the rotor i trimmed the inner part of the caliper until the rotor fit in perfect inside. once that was done my rim was hitting the caliper so i used my wheel spacer and then it cleared. i also had to make steel braided lines and it worked. the only down fall about this swap, is that these calipers are really heavy and i can feel the weight in the front. but other than that they stop way better than the gt brakes.

my guess is that the 4runner and supra calipers are made of same material while gt4 are lighter

Wow this is such a viable option, why did I not know this before? These calipers are about 65$ rebuilt from raybestos, so it'd be $130 for both plus a set of pads, which should be about $50 more... given that you can use the same stock rotors, this is awesome.

However the upgrade would only be in the caliper itself and as far as I understand, the upgrade to GT4 brakes requires GT4 rotors which are bigger than GT rotors.

Isn't there a possibility of getting bigger rotors on there with these calipers?

EDIT: Is it basically this that has to be done in order for them to fit? If it is, then it's a damn good investment.

Go read our GT4 Brake upgrade thread. (TigaWoods is the main author) GT4 rotors are NOT usable.
Supra rotors are usable or BRZ rotors are bolt on for GT4 brakes. GT4 calipers are also much lighter as they are aluminum

I don't think the BRZ/FR-S rotors are bolt-on rotors... the total width of the front rotors is much wider than the celica rotors, i.e. the hats are much wider. Also the center bore is 3mm larger than the stockers, at 58mm iirc, so I'd figure they wouldn't fit. Sure they're 5x100 and have about 20mm more diameter to them, (274mm vs 292mm iirc) but it'd be great IF they fit. I don't think anyone has tried them yet.

I don't mind the weight of the 4runner calipers, it's a lot more than the GT4 calipers but it's sprung weight, the calipers don't spin. Also, the 4runner calipers run for $150 for a loaded pair from autozone with lifetime warranty... GT4 calipers are like $300 for just the fronts and in usually "in need of rebuild" condition.

has anyone measured the caliper bias on the 4 runner calipers, and if so, what is it.

BRZ rotors fit, and also sti rotors fit, but the sti rotors need a caliper solution.

Does anybody know if these are the 15" wheel calipers, or the 16" wheel calipers? There's a big price difference on them. They look like 15" though.

There is also a reasonable size difference between the two calipers. It seems that the frs rotors could fit. Its a matter of how hard it is to do so. WRX rotors from 2005 could also work

Answered my own question. The above calipers are for the 16" Wheeled 4Runner (2.7L LE and 3.4L V6)

4Runner 16" wheeled calipers on WRX/FR-S rotor:

4Runner 15" wheeled calipers on WRX/FR-S rotor:

As you can perhaps see they are somewhat smaller in size, and the tabs are definitely shorter on the 15" version. of the calipers. Side by side, I couldn't see any noticeable diference in the caliper piston diameter.

All I've left to try is actually testing both rotor and caliper on the car to confirm fitment.

I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, but 4runner calipers are much more abundant and much less expensive than GT4 calipers, regardless of the extra weight and necessary modification to fit. It's DIY alternative to a big brake kit vs using GT-4 calipers.

you would have to see if the rotor is not to big, in my case the caliper mounting points wouldn't allow to use a bigger rotor with out making a bracket to extend the caliper and mounting it.

So you just used the calipers with GT rotors?
