Some dude from auto zone told me to add some fuel injector cleaner to my car since its 20 years old and should bring performance back . If it's true what's a good brand cleaner

Lucas Oil - Injector cleaner

+1, use Lucas injector cleaner. That's what I used the first time I bought my car before a tune up. Just dont seafoam an old car. The carbon build can actually sealing in cracks internally. So breaking those carbon buildup cam also lead to leaking issues. All in all, dont use it unless you need to. Old cars hate alcohol/ethanol.

Totally agree, seafoam works TOO well, and may even cause more problems.
Just about everything Lucas makes is good stuff.
Likewise you should replace plugs, wires, distributed cap and rotor, along with the fuel filter if you haven't already

Seafoam is fine in the fuel tank, and it may or may not hurt in the brake booster line. 99% of fuel injector cleaners are a waste of money. Most fuel stations already have additives and detergents in the fuel that are cleaning everything anyway. Lucas Oil would be the one I would expect to work, but if you're pumping good quality gasoline you shouldn't need anything at all.

I know on the 7A pulling the injectors to flush them isn't hard at all, I'd imagine the 5S wouldn't be too much more work. Screw snake oil, go with what's going to work.

i would look out for that i put injector cleaner in my van and the fuel lines were so dirty the injectors ended up getting clogged up with all the crap. cost me £1600 to fix.
just use a little bit the fist time dont be a fanny like me and pour half the bottle in haha.

I only fill up at SHELL.....for really no legitimate reason.
Only deviated 2 times last year because of out of state travel....

That being said....1 can of seafoam in the gas tank will do just fine

I used Seafoam on my celica with 180k+.. No problems at all and made the car run smooth as ****.. I'd do sea foam before Injector cleaner.. To me its all hype.. Never worked in all my working on cars days.. Seafoam almost always

Yea I never put it in the oil.. Brake Booster and fuel tank is fine

^ You only put it in the oil RIGHT BEFORE you do an oil change...

I wouldn't do more than a drive around the block with seafoam in your oil....

and yet they don't tell you that on the instructions, sadly I learned the hard way :'[

Adding anything to the oil that will thin it out is dangerous. It's intended for use at 150 miles or less. Seafoam in the gas tank is always how I roll, but I do have a couple Lucas on hand.

Here is how I see it, Lucas is an oil. Rs great for carbureted vehicles because it lubricates. It doesn't do as much good for fuel injected vehicles because it's not strong on the cleaning part. I've never seen any gains from using Lucas in my 94 GT.

Seafoam on the other hand treats the entire fuel system. It lubricates, helps with phase seperation, moisture in the tank and is one of the best cleaners on the market besides Fireball Plus. (Locally made and distributed product, idk if you guys can get it) With seafoam, I noticed a 2-3 mpg increase on trips as well.

With today's fuels, you only need additives if you're letting your vehicle sit a lot and you don't drive it long enough distances. The fuels today will clean out your system for you provided you drive it far enough and frequently enough. If you're someone who drives 2 miles to work every day and doesn't drive anywhere else, gas lasts you multiple weeks, and you buy regular gas from wherever, then a injector cleaner is recommended.
