I'd get a 944, but cost of parts is ungodly...
Ehh, first thing is move South and buy one. It just depends on where you want to go with it. The 7M is a fairly capable motor, and can make more than you'll ever need for the street. If you want to get into big power of course there's the 2JZ. The 1UZ makes for a good swap as well as it has lots of potential or is good in stock form. One big advantage of the 1UZ is a reduction of engine weight and shifting that weight more towards the center of the car. Can even do LS1/T-56 swap if you want, lots of possibilities. One thing to note if you plan on going 2JZ is try and find an '89+ as it'll have mounts ready for the 2JZ as during that time Japan got the 1JZ. Personally the 1UZ appeals to me, but I love V8 burble. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Our similar taste in cars scares me........ I went the sc400 route(Lost my red GT because of it). DON'T DO IT. . If you do go the MKIII route and want the car to be something more than a project, throw the 7m in the trash immediately(I threw 4 away ) The ultimate reason I sold my red mark 3 was because I would have had to redo the entire car essentially to get it to be a reliable daily.

The 7M is a stout engine once the head-gasket is taken care of though, preventative action is the key there. I had an '88 NA and '89 NA that were fine. The '88 was blown when gotten, and the '89 was taken care of before it happened. The only problem with the '89 was the infernal targa top and the '88 was auto. Eventually I'd convert to something else once I wanted it to get into the fast car territory, but mid 6's is more than enough for now. I sold them to get my '67 Coupe DeVille which was the poster child of land yachting. Then sold that and got a 3000GT, or the POS-GT as I like to call them, which was the worst car purchase ever. Sold that and bought the Celica, which outside of the Supra twins, has been the most reliable car I've owned to date. I want another Supra again while I can still physically drive a manual. It's been heavily suggested I buy an automatic to prolong the use of my left knee, but it's getting worse on its own so I might as well enjoy driving while I can.

Your original paint is showing age? Or it's that difficult to match the paint... on a white car. -------------------- |

The issue with most mkiiis these days is that they are 25 years old. The engine harnesses are getting brittle, causing them to run improperly, and in turn causing all kinds of other problems due to the engine being so frail. I would say 75% of mkiiis out there are either broken down, or not running properly if they do drive. Most mkiiis that I see(Such as at Supras in Vegas) that are daily driven andreliable, are JZ powered. That being said when the celica is painted and somewhat done I will be hunting for a 5 speed NA to daily while the celica gets her transplant, then the celica will get dailyed and the mkiii will get a JZ transplant |

Your original paint is showing age? Or it's that difficult to match the paint... on a white car. Both I think. White is a pretty tough colour to match, especially on a 20 year old car. I've also noticed that my passenger door doesn't quite match when seen in a certain light, oh well Maybe one day I'll save up for a full paint job. -------------------- 2007 Impreza 2.5i - Daily

That's any 25 year old car though. Both of mine were in good nick 6 years ago, so I wouldn't expect them to be much worse now as far as all that goes. Alabama climate is gentle on cars for the most part. Plus I'll be going for a low miles '89-92 that hasn't blown its head yet so I can go ahead and take care of it and not worry about coolant having destroyed bearings. Then if I choose to go JZ in the future it also already has the mounts for it. All else fails my motto never does, "F*** it and drop in a 350."

Apparently he's trying to get a small loan to go ahead and buy the car, he has $2,800 in cash. I guess he doesn't want to risk waiting a week for some reason.

Let him give you a sizable deposit, and then he knows he has the car and you still have it for another week for driving out to see replacement cars (y) -------------------- SOLD :( 1997 ST204 Celica ZR -----> See it here on 6GC! 2013 October Celica of the Month XD Now: '00 NB8B Mazda MX5 -----> See it here in off topic! |
