I understand the availability part. You could also get a 2nd or 3rd gen 3S-GTE and get some high compression pistons for it, take the turbo off and make a custom header for it. A set of HKS 264 cams, eagle rods and some headwork.
Or get a 2nd 3S-GTE head and a pre-98 5S-FE block, and possibly slap on some VG30DE pistons for around a good compression bump with a 5S-GE setup. You'd need 3S-GTE distributor and electronics, and tuning could be done with a piggyback or a fuel-only Megasquirt (which is a lot simpler to install than a fuel/spark Megasquirt) -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Weird.... I had a eureka moment last night about going with a 1MZFE and now it's popping everywhere. I knew I wasn't the only one thinking of this but it keeps popping up. Funny.

The 1m has low end torque like a bigger better 5s. Later 1ms are about 190 hp iirc.
Buy a 1m and rebuild it. That will satisfy your tinkering lust for a while, plus you can do the harness. Then swap it in. -------------------- |

Oh, I will. A much cheaper option. And I'm not looking to break any records... Just more pep in my step.

Well I am dropping the rest of the season of racing.
Engine is leaking too much and I am always on edge and hate having to "sneak" by and hope nobody notices the oil pools that are forming around the starting line haha. Also the smell of the oil burning on the b-pipe is slightly sickening Right now its leaking about 1qt per 100miles give or take traffic. I have seemed to quell the coolant leak down to a couple ounces per week. THE PLAN Going to dyno (FINALLY) the motor to document what power I am putting out currently. Keep going to different shows/events to represent the 6th Gens! During this time I will slowly be doing a light BEAMS build -Cams -EMS -Valve Porting/matching -ITB's (would be great if I could find some thatd fit) The less I do to the motor, the faster itll get done haha. Trying to keep it light. Despite what I said prior, I could manage a swap If I build the motor in my apartment, and then take it up to PA and swap it/map the EMS over the course of a couple weekends. -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

Go, Mike, Go!
You've got plenty of room in the apartment to build an engine although now I don't have a bedroom to crash in for my trips to MD. What cams are you looking into for the Beams? -------------------- Has no more Celicas

I'm also curious about camshaft installation with the BEAMS. Since its an interference head, when I am re-installing everything to me it would make sense that the Timing belt would need to be put back on before rotating to re-check clearances. I'm not sure if removing the head and installing the cams would be easier as to remove the possibility of valve contact with the piston. There are also some adjustable cam gears floating around, I contacted the seller, but I doubt they are still being made. -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

Holy COW those are $2950 USD!!!! They are GORGEOUS though thanks rusty... hahaha
Id be better off trying to adapt the 4AG ITBs. There is a adaptor that goes from them to the blacktop, but I am curious how similar the Blacktop manifold connection/portholes are to the Red Top. Id like to get the Cams done first at least. There really isnt much else Id like to do. If the 4AG ITB adaptor for the Black top can fist the Red top, Ill start looking into a total cost/hassle -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

looked up some threads on the BEAMS forum and found some more info for the ITB's
(Also contacted Celica_RA45) The picture below was posted from a fellow who was concerned about putting ITB's on his Redtopped Corolla. The measurements Celica_RA45 posted was that his quad manifold is 70mm (and follows the same track as the OEM intake runners) the 4AGE quad TB's are 75mm and the intake trumpets (straight) are 30mm (asked him if he still produced angled ones I saw on an old post) Id like to see what the clearances for our motor are to the firewall, I doubt it will be much different from this. UPDATE Found this thread and video 6th Gen with 3SGE and ITB's http://youtu.be/7Z6z14dXxNY http://www.mr2.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-93575.html This post has been edited by Tigawoods: May 8, 2014 - 10:07 AM -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |
