Well, the Supra has handling and interior quality over the F-body. No disputing any of that. That being said it's hard to argue with 5.5-5.1 seconds to 60 out of the box that gets 26+ mpg doing 70 mph. Easy to get extra power out of them as well and they're a reliable drive-train. Also V8 burble. I'd like to have another MKIII, but when even a good NA is almost as much as a good LT-1 F-body it's kind of hard to justify it. I don't have to do the head-gasket(s) or convert the A/C on the F-body for one. Not as old, easier to find... Still, if I could find a good MKIII that was already sorted I'd probably go ahead and get it.

That'd be ideal, get the best of both worlds then. Just have to find someone that's already done it all for me.

4th Gen F Body = Trailer trash version.
MKIII Supra = Also you don't have to convert the A/C on the MKIII. You're supposed to if the system leaks. R-12 runs a lot cooler so I'd keep it just for that. This post has been edited by travisxcore: May 9, 2014 - 5:20 AM |

I think if any of them are it'd be the TBI 3rd gens. That and Fox bodies.
R12's dwindling stock just makes it unfeasible, that and it's considerably more expensive. The conversion sadly probably isn't much more than a charge of R12. I'm still in the midst of searching around though, but it'll more likely than not be one of the aforementioned cars. It'd be easier if I could just buy and drive whatever, it'd certainly be cheaper too. Oh well, what I get for being a car enthusiast. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

an R134a system will run just as cool as an R12 system, however, if you take an R12 system and charge with R134a it will not be as cool.
There are replacement refrigerants that work in the R12 system which would be maybe $40 a pound (although Im sitting on 20# I'll give away for $100 if you want to come get it ) -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

Got to looking and R-134 with PAG oil can be used in R-12 systems. Would just do that then I suppose.
Found a few cars on eBay, but of course they're 800-2,000 miles away... -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

pay for shipping and stop whining... Shipping is a set of headers and exhaust, that and I want to see it in person before I buy it. If it was a brand new car I wouldn't mind as much buying sight unseen. It's ok, gives me some time to figure out exactly what I'm wanting from my next car. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

i bought the silver celi without ever laying eyes on it. All used cars will come gremlinized... sooner or later... ive enjoyed working on that car, learned alot, and still learning more...
but then again, having the tools and space to work is a must.... want a 78 corolla? -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

Today I pounded out a dent in my passenger door, ordered 7th gen seats (front and back), and got on-road approval from the DMV and DEQ for my 4WD V8 powered Celica build. Also got approval from our HOA to pour a 70X15 concrete pad along the side of my house and driveway down to the sidewalk. It has been a great day!

It'd have to be an exceptional listing to convince to buy it and have it shipped, sadly most listings just flat out suck.
I have the tools and space, and even have access to a lift should I need it. I just hate working on cars, especially those you don't have room to do anything to. If I were to buy something in that year range or older it'd be a muscle car. Seeing as it'd be my only car it really needs to be something on the more modern side. Side note, I forgot how aggravating it was to have to catch rides with people to get anywhere. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
