anybody know if the Rav4 had a 5sfe? the motor I've got is clearly a 5sfe out of the 98+ revision, just need to see if this is the same as the 98 rav4.
some show it as a 5sfe, some call it a "2.0L" , the salvage place I'm looking to get a head from lists it as compatible with 98+ camry, solara ect.
or maybe the rav4 has a 3sfe, then is the head the same as the 5sfe?

I've found these so far, but not definitive yet, keep in mind I am talking about a 3sFE head on a 5sFE, and not the GE or GTE, I know that head is different.

I think this one answers it as Yes, they are the same.
If anybody can second this I'd 'preciate it. will the intake, valve cover and everything else just fit right up?

this makes it sound like the later than 97 head no longer had distributor mounting holes. hmmm

ya, that's what I've found so far, the Rav4 has a 3sfe. so now the question is Does the 3sfe have the Exact same head as the 5sfe?
the clues say "maybe" : /

Yes, they're one in the same. The only differences between the two are below the head (crankshaft-stroke, pistons-bore)

Just use all the bits off of your head, the only thing Id worry about would be whether it has a spot for the distributor since it may be be distributor-less.

good, so the distributor spot is the only thing to look for. I'll see if I can find some pics of this spot to be sure.
but both of the heads from these rav4s this place has are 200k+ miles, I'm gonna keep looking around and see if I find a better head and maybe a better match. Sadly the one I've got only has 150k miles on it, maybe I'll set it aside so I've got one ready the next time.

the interchange info looks like the 5sfe in the Celica was the same up through 99, but the 5sfe in the Camry changed in 97+

All 5SFE heads have the spot for the distributor and the bolt holes for it as well. The only different thing is that they DON'T come with one, because of the coil packs, and they come with a distributor blockoff plug which can be removed by taking off the valve cover and removing the far right cap that holds the distributor in place.

Source: I have a 5SFE 98+ Camry engine in my Celica. I removed the balance shafts, I am using the coilpacks as well as the cam sensor it has a provision for and the crank sensor that comes on the oil pump on this revision.
