ok everyone says its easy but i cant get my fuel pump to turn on. Can someone please walk me through it and let me know where exactly you should put the relay and which wire should go where?? Im using a 5 prong but no matter how long i stare at the wire diagrams i cant make sense of any of it.
I have a 3rd gen 3sgte in my 96 gt, please i know many have done this but i cant find the info i need. |

from EA1 there are 4 wires that need to go to a spdt relay (5 pin) EA1 is the plug on the end of the 3s engine harness that plugs into the GT relay/fuse box in the engine bay. there should be about 9 extra wires on that plug that the GT EA1 does not have, 4 for the fuel pump relay and 5 IIRC for the intercooler pump and IC pump relay. here are the wire colors for the FPR L-O = blue w/orange stripe L-B = blue w/black stripe L-W = blue w/white stripe G-R = green w/red stripe -------------------- |

ok then i am on the right track...I did this but nothing is coming from my pump. Im thinking i might have wired the relay wrong or maybe a bad pump. Im using the pump that came with my engine (hoping its good)
isnt it 5 wires for the fpr and 4 for the IC relay? do i have to cut into any wires on the gt body connector side?? thats really what im confused about? what i was trying to do is cut before the fuse box on the 205 wiring and wire those up to the relay. Is this right? |

Hey guys Sorry to bring up an old post but I'm stumped on this and this pic of the fuel pump is pretty good quality for reference. I'm in the same boat with a gen 3 3sgte going into a 96 gt celica. My motor did not come with the fuel pump relay or ic relay. I'm keeping the front mount I currently have so I will throw a resistor to avoid the 54 code. I picked up a 5 pin Bosch style relay and have been studying the diagrams but I I just wanted be sure I'm wiring the relay correctly. I have identified the 4 wires within ea1 3 sgte engine harness plug. Relay of course has 30 85 86 87 and 87a. Does the below wire configuration to the relay look correct. The only thing I am hung up on is the blue and orange wire but to me that would be a positive 12v and the switched ground connecting together.
Blue w/ orange stripe (What relay spot does this go to?) 87a Blue w/ black stripe 87 = Blue w/ white stripe 85 = Green w/ red stripe 30 = ? 86 = ? Any help would greatly be appreciated. -------------------- |

im confused here? why are you needing another relay? the Celica already has a FP relay, its called the Circuit opening relay.

Smaay- it's needed since the 3sgte is controlled by the ecu where as the body harness has it's on circuit. Pitcelica- thank you for the clarification. So that blue with orange stripe has to be spliced to both terminals. That's what I figured.

So what is the real function of the circuit opening relay? Priming the engine?

It provides power to the fuel pump when starting. It also turns the fuel pump off when the ignition was left on accidentally. It turns off the fuel pump in an accident. During a major fuel line leak, it cuts power as well.

That's what I figured. someone please elaborate on this. the COR has 2 sources for the fuel pump, the start switch and the ECU. so why does the 3S-GTE have an external relay in the engine bay? is there no COR on the ST205? It provides power to the fuel pump when starting. It also turns the fuel pump off when the ignition was left on accidentally. It turns off the fuel pump in an accident. Have you checked the ign fuse under the dash.... It controls power to the efi relay

Smaay, the 3sgte has another relay so that it can control the flow of the fuel pump via a "fuel pump resistor pack" (see wiring diagram)
partial throttle sends 9 volts to the fuel pump, once you hit the gas hard enough it sends 12 volts so more fuel is pumped. (Assuming everyone will understand why you would need more fuel) You can bypass using this extra relay and resistor altogether, ive done it on my boss's car. But you will be running a bit rich as it will run 12 volts all the time. Not a problem at all tho. I can tell anyone what wires to bridge to do this. yeah, im way ahead of ya now, thanks. I got my hands on a 94 GT harness and it was about 97% identicle to the ST205. even colors matched. I moved a few pins added a run here and there and good to go. I did bypass the 2nd relay. If it runs too rich ill add another one in later.

You would have to buy the fuel pump resistor pack also, (most) swaps dont come with it. Its a grey box with a 2pin plug. The relay either directs power to that or straight to the fuel pump. Obvi you could just get an safc to control fuel, and have even more precise fuel adjustment, rather than just the 9v and 12v. I know the safc will advance timing but hey yolo -------------------- |

Playing with the voltage of the fuel pump (reducing it) has no impact on the fuel injected into the engine. The fuel pressure is still regulated by the FPR. The flow of the fuel pump at low speed is still high enough to feed all the 4 injectors. The only reason why there is this "dual fuel pump speed relay" is to remove some strain on the fuel pump when full flow isn't required (idle, cruise, low load). The fuel pump will last longer in this case. Also, the fuel pump noise will be reduced at 9V and this is good for the driver.
But I don't think that fuel pump life (200k+ miles) or fuel pump noise at idle is relevant for a tuned and modded car. So, feel free to bypass this fuel pump resistor pack and run the fuel pump in full speed all the time. |

Let me know if you need info on which wire to bridge. from my memory its a black w red stripe, you have to bridge it to a blue w white stripe on the COR. Or the wires are vice verse. I can double check on my boss's car and take a pic (i may have one on my phone from when i did it, have to check) -------------------- |
