Hi guys,
I've decided that I'm keeping my Celica (st204) and will very likely be looking at doing an engine swap. I was thinking a beams red top but then it seems like a 3sgte will be the easier option from what I've read. I've read that the standard 5SFE manual tranny should handle it but I did see conflicting posts on this. I'm planning on keeping it as a daily driver and just wanted something a bit quicker. Has anyone in Sydney, Australia done this swap before and know a shop that has done the job before? There's an ST205 half cut for sale at the moment but I won't have the cash for another few months, as I'm planning on installing coilovers and a few other things in the coming months before finding someone to do the swap. Thanks |

The BEAMS has less involved, but the 3S-GTE has more potential. Just have to decide on what level of performance that you want, and how much that you want to spend. The transmission will be ok at stock levels, just have to get a stronger clutch.

Yeah, I was going to suggest a V6 but I wasn't sure being in Australia if they had the same availability as we.

Regardless of which route you go, since you're keeping it a DD the #1 priority to me would be availability of parts should something take a turn for the worse.

I'd actually prefer the BEAMS as it's going to stay my daily driver, there'll likely be less issues. But so far it looks like it'll be a pain to find a front cut.
But the 3SGTE might be the better option as I'd probably end up trying to squeeze a bit more out of the BEAMS, where I could leave the 3SGTE pretty much stock and have a huge gain over my current setup. I guess time when the time comes and the cash is ready I'll go for what's available at the time. To be clear, I'm not planning on a GT4 replica of any sort. I'll be going more for the SS-III look, though if I end up with the turbo I wouldn't say no to the GT4 front bumper I did consider the V6 swap but the it seemed like it would be too much extra effort. |

You don't need a front clip for a BEAMS, just an engine/harness/ECU. And the extra bits like the intake and B pipe. You just need a clip for a 2nd or 3rd gen 3S-GTE.

The reason I want the clip is for the extra bits like the bigger brakes and possibly the climate control, projector lights etc... If I was to find a clip with everything, doesn't seem likely though.
I'm favouring the 3SGTE swap at the moment, the extra power is enticing |

The swap itself isn't much more difficult yet you have 50 more ponies right away, with the capability to get more power any time you want it. Well worth it, in my opinion.

Whats your state laws/rules about engine swaps there? Sometimes this can be overlooked.

Whats your state laws/rules about engine swaps there? Sometimes this can be overlooked. I'm sure it's fine, from what I remember reading, but I'll double check when I get home tonight. I believe it has to do with engine capacity vs total vehicle weight, some stupid maths etc... I don't seem to remember if power was even part of the equation. |

So, they've changed the laws here but it looks like it's ok, I'll just have to get it certified as I'm increasing the power by a significant amount.
Now to put some money aside and keep an eye out for other parts that I want to install. I really need to stop spending money on my bike as well but I don' think that'll happen soon lol |
