Really I don't see the point in buying a MKIV, just get a SC300 and save a fortune in the process. It's the exact same chassis as the MKIV is derived from the SC, all of the suspension and drive-train bits are compatible. Put the SC300 on a diet and you're good to go, plus the SC body is stiffer. Unless you just have to have it for the looks, it's silly to pay that kind of money when there's a significantly cheaper alternative.

Let's put it this way, you can easily have a 2JZ-GTE SC for less than the 2JZ-GE MKIV and still have money left over.

True that, im all over the place right now. I like sc300, i would have to find one that isnt already stripped, hopefully finding one that is manual. Im doing research now on them. Great platform

There were only some 3,800 manual SC300 made, and people usually ask way too much for them when you do find them. Best thing is to find a clean auto with good body and interior, and then swap in the 2JZ-GTE, V160, LSD diff, and suspension over from a MKIV. Removing the full size spare and changing the full power SC300 seats for manual Supra seats saves over 100 pounds by itself. Changing the dual exhaust to a single exhaust along with changing out the heavy stock rims also saves a considerable amount. Easily can take off about 200 pounds without hurting the comfort or civility of the car. I had started looking into all of this myself when I was trying to decide on the next car.

Seen the price tag on a V160 lately? It'll be just as much or more than the price of the SC300. Definitely stick to the R154.

Yeah, the R154 would be cheaper. Another thing that's sort of popular is taking the SC400 and converting it to a manual, and then boosting it. Personally that sounds like more fun to me.

I've been reading more about this lately too. Definitely seems like a fun project! Apparently the 1UZ will hold a trillion pounds of boost.

Thanks for the info. Im looking into it all, im not pressed by any means, it would be work in progress to make it my style. Im not doing that whole stanced or completely camber out crap. I heard alot of good things about 1uz and the 2jz. I just gotta find the right car to build up i guess. I seen theres a ton of ways to reduce weight with the sc300 which is nice.

Honestly had I found one with the 5-speed already in it I probably would've gotten one over the Miata. Really it'd be tempting to keep the SC400 interior stock even with doing a manual conversion and boosting it. It'd be luxurious, fast, stylish, and still handle exceptionally for a car of its size. Where else could you find that kind of car for the money? Nowhere.

Some people have even gone with the 1UZ over the 2JZ in their MKIV, should say something there.

I LOVED my Z and miss it every day. I had an 04 Touring. If you've been on the Z forums then I'm sure you've seen the cons already- alignment issues in the '03, oil consumption in the '06 RevUp, syncro issues in the early 6 speeds, shoddy power window motors no matter which year you get. But those cars are so much fun that they're well worth any issue that you may come across. The VQ35 is a damn good engine and I saw 29 mpg out of mine once, and consistently got 25. I plan on buying an HR Z in a few years to replace my DE, but for now I'm moving on. My Z was very controllable whether I was weaving through traffic or driving like an idiot with the tail hanging out. It never failed to out a smile on my face, no matter what kind of trip I was taking.

What do you think of this? Ive called and talked with them twice already, were at 11k so far, would like this to be even lower, but whats your insight on this? This has the newer HR motor correct? http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/610691476/overview/ Im willing to travel its everything checks out right with it.

That's an 06 6 speed, so it has the RevUp engine. Priced well though, looks clean!

So wasted a weekend going to look at the z, lets just say those pictures are not of that car. The inside was dirty, not detailed, it was in a accident but never reported, horrible over spray job and blending. Drove it for a whole 15 mins after i let it warm up the temp went through the roof. They lied their ass off on it. After i was done looking at it, young kid with mom and dad looked at the car and were about to do paperwork on it, didnt even test drive. I feel bad for them. So the hunt is on pause now. If one pops up ill check it out, just seems like the Z idea is fading away day by day haha

I see they've warranted their bad reviews then.

That's a shame. frown.gif Even worse that someone else is buying the car without even looking at it. The 350Z isn't a car for a new driver. That's begging for problems. frown.gif Not to mention the potential engine problems...

Or you could steal my idea and find a manual MKIII with a blown head-gasket and throw the 1UZ into it.
