I've been through an old post from njccmd2002 in early 2011 about the conversion of the awd e154f to fwd. While removing the central differential, does it really worth installing a e153 lsd diff or it's lost money since the front wheel are already on an open diff in the e154f?

Why go through the effort? The E153 is easier to find, weighs less, and you don't have to worry about converting it. It's possible to convert the E154 to FWD but not something that has been done a lot so you'll get a bunch of mixed information. Some people claim it works, others say it won't work at all. For the work involved, I'd just skip the E154 and find an E153. Same gear ratios, much less work, no reliability issues.

Because I already have a e154f installed on my st205 3s-gte with my front clip. So it would be much cheaper to convert it than buying a new one!

And from what I know, Toyota dealership in the province of Quebec have never offered the manual transmission e153 with their v6 camry/solara. I don't know for the rest of Canada, but it means that I have to source all my parts from the USA. I'm not closed to the idea of putting a e153 in the car, I'm just looking for the best cost efficiency decision.

from what i heard, you can still buy the cover plate, from toyota. but cracking open the tranny to install the lsd, will not be a breeze

So the lsd is not worthless...? After removing the central diff, I should have a good acces to the e154f front diff to replace it with the lsd one?

all you need is the cover plate and whatever diff you want to use you dont have to get an LSD, just get an open. or look online on the MR2 forums for anyone that upgraded. the AWD trans has a shaft that is part of the diff and that is what gets swapped out with an open diff or LSD. then put the cover plate on and install a new axle gasket. that really it.

Sell that transmission and get the transmission u need. Without the proper tools. You will have a hard time. Ebay has transmisions all the time. Check your local craigslist. You gotta pay to play...

Can someone confirm me that the transmission in this link is really a e153, just from the pictures I'm not sure enough, but the description says it's from a jdm 3s-gte. So it should be the good one.

once again, the MR2 trans will need major modification to work in a celica. if you must have an e153, get the camry 5 speed one

From what I've found on this topic it seems doable: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=64315

Of course it would be faster and easier with the e153 from camry/solara, but with the mr2 tranny, the only thing I'm not sure about is the mount. Is it located on the good place or does it need to be rewelded on another location?

For the rest of the job, from what I've found, it seems like a fairly straight job. I might not have toyota's sst to convert my e154f, but I was a mechanic when I was younger and the mr2 tranny job don't scare me like the e154f does!

if you have the e154f you have the mounts and fwd selectors, if thats the only way you got, go for it. I just got a car with a tranny already swapped, i was lazy

good price too....
