exactly the 6gc, supra, mr2, and altezza steering wheels look more classy and higher quality leather than the 7th gen celica and mr2 sypder steering wheels.

How? The perforated leather continues to the center section, where as what he has is some kind of Frankenstein monster. Perforated leather, carbon fiber, then...simulated leather grain plastic?

See?

Perforated airbag cover looks tacky, IMO.

Besides, carbon fiber steering wheel = hella classy. Pinky out!

I bet just the center section would swap, that vinyl seriously looks awfully out of place.

ya it seems the center piece is interchangeable between the 6th and 7th gen celica.

create a pole if you really want to see how 6gc member side towards the late 90's steering wheel look. especially the red stitched oem ss3 and glimited look!!

Dropped off the MR2 this morning for leather seats. Stopped back in this evening to pick it up. They bring it around and the seats are looking great - they even replaced the foam on the bottom portion of the drivers seat to bring it back to how it was from the factory. I drive out of the parking lot and as I am making my left turn I feel something odd on the side of the steering wheel... Sure enough the shop was careless enough to put a 3" scuff in the side of my steering wheel... which cost almost as much as the leather seats!!! I called them immediately and told them they damaged my steering wheel. They said they were already closed, but to bring it in first thing tomorrow and they'll have a look at it.

F*cking people. Seriously.

Camera died right after this picture, so I had to resort to my cell phone.

Make sure they re-wrap the other sections of leather so it all matches. Also, have them install a 7th gen airbag too. See, even that shop hates your steering wheel.

The seats are super comfy. They're going to take some getting used to. They originally said they were going to do the door panels, but then backed out on that idea once they saw that the door panel material is actually bonded to the panel - not an insert.

Went back this morning and showed them the scratch on the wheel. The owner came out and said, "My guys are really good about reporting when they damage something so we can take care of it beforehand, and they guys are saying they didn't damage it"

So I responded with, "Look - I made one turn out of here and felt that on my wheel and I called you right back. I know that it was not like that when I dropped it off because I take care of my car. This steering wheel costs almost as much as what I paid for the seats, and if you aren't going to resolve this issue that you created, I assure you that I will cripple your dealer sales. Please own up to your guys' carelessness and repair my steering wheel"

He walked away and came back in a couple of minutes. "Well... if that damage was there beforehand we would have noted it on the intake paperwork, and it wasn't. We don't do steering wheel wraps/repairs here, but I have a mobile guy who can take care of it. It'll be a couple of days though".

So that is where we stand now. Either repair the leather on the wheel, or re-wrap it in nice black leather with red stitch.

Well this hasn't been bumped for a while.

Hi everybody! I'm still around. The MR2 is hanging out at my house.

I've been neglecting it since I got my FRS, and now that the FRS is at a good point I am going to readdress the MR2. The old lady has given me the OK on a bit of a resto-mod project.

Things that will be done:

Engine:
- Engine will come back out for a good cleaning, and replace any gaskets that are leaking.
- New valve covers (mine have some corrosion and the metal is flaking off)
- Delete all EGR components.
- 264 cams

Suspension:
- KW V3 coils to replace the junk that is on there now.
- Stainless brake lines
- New rotors and pads all around

Interior:
- Not a whole lot. A good deep cleaning.

Exterior:
- Replace front lip. It has a bit of damage from awesome DD duty. I knew this would happen, so I've been planning for it.
- Add side skirts
- Add rear extensions
- Send off for body work. Fix small amount of fender bacon up front. Roll/pull all around.
- Respray exterior and engine bay OEM red.
- Contemplating new wheels. The offset is not working well for me on these wheels, and as much as I like these, I would like something a bit meatier with a higher offset.
- New tail lights. Perhaps 93+.

I think that is it for now. I'll be getting the cams done next week and reinstalled the following week, so those will get some drive time before everything starts. I still need to make a plan for sourcing parts and stuff, so this might end up being a fall/winter project. We'll see.

Mini update! Yay!

I removed the 91 spoiler pieces from the rear quarters and replaced the trunk lid with a JDM 94-95 lid.

Now I have four different shades of red on the rear end of the car.

I gutted a junked MR2 for it's mirrors and power window assembly. Swapped over the mirrors and replaced the manual window drive assembly with the power unit. Additional wiring will be needed, as the body harness doesn't have provisions for the power windows.

And tonight I pulled all of the amp wiring (minus power) back to the head unit and re-ran it all down the top of the gas tank (transmission tunnel area). Previously they were all running next to the power for the amp, which gave feedback. Now the speaker lines and RCAs run separate. Lots missing from the picture, but I had to remove the sub and box to get the arm rest/center console off, then gut the driver side of the car to unwrap the taped lines, re-route and re-tape. Many small cuts on the top of my hands.

And done.

What do you mean? They were the only shop in the area that does reupholstering, and while the seats are great they scuffed the leather on the wheel.

I'll have the wheel refinished by my detail shop.
