hmm who has actually barred a v6 swap in their 6gc chassis?! no one yet. making it still illegal. just not as illegal as a jdm motor

your statement is wrong. it is legal. I put a 2005 engine in my 97. i have all the SMOG devices installed. I just dont have a place close by to take it and I havent had the time.

im in LA area, so 6 hour drive from u, but im willing to set something up with u, drive out and help u out, i go out there occasionally once every 3-4 months.
we can set something up. i will look down here and see if theres any good beams down here. but usually there is a lot more up in sacrament, since its closer to Oregon.
and bonzai is correct, no 1 has barred any motors in 6gc yet.
the v6 swap is good for obd2 swappers, for obd1 swaps it is unnecessary, since jdm motors as long as u run a cat, they will pass smog, only problem would be is EGR, but most smog technicians check the EGR,u just have to know someone that does not care for visual inspection, and only cares for sniffer etc.

Cool sounds good. I will look around too.. how long does it take to do the swap? A weekend?

honestly if u got the right tools, and just focus and work i can do it under 4 hours in n out.
only thing that will take time is the engine harness, to extend it and the pins on beams for spark

my point is that you've never openly stated here on forum that the car has been to a CA Bar station or whatever you call that and been approved. last i remember hearing you were having trouble getting a charcoal and egr stuff on there.

agh lets not fight about this. everything is personal opinion, who cares if its bar'd or not. and if it makes u happy, i can swap my 5sfe in only 2-3 hours if i wanted to and smog it legally, and then switch it back. its not hard for me at all.
anyways let the kid choose which swap he wants, if he wants a v6 i dont have anything against that. let him swap the v6, its a good engine, its just not my personal preference. anyways good luck with ur decision on ur swap. dont let anyone here make u feel like u have to get the beams or the 3sgte or the v6. u choose which 1 u like the most.
i will warn u, the beams is the hardest to acquire parts, as in ur walking into the dealer and to buy parts it goes from beams>3sgte or 3sge (gen 3s) > then 3mz-fe
online now a days u can find almost anything, but just letting u know if ur looking for a part like next day it will be tough for 3sges. depending on what part.

Getting parts for the BEAMS is exactly the same as getting parts for the 3rd gen 3S-GE/GTE. There's nothing terribly complicated about it.

I wasn't arguing. smile.gif Just saying that getting parts for the BEAMS isn't anywhere near as hard any everyone thinks.

The Blacktop is mounted longitudinally for a RWD setup, so everything bolted to it is different as well. You'd need to buy a Redtop or Greytop to kill for parts in order to make a Blacktop work in a transverse setup. Apart from that, it's 11.5:1 compression as opposed to the Redtop's 11.0:1 and has dual VVT-i, and its rated at 207 hp instead of 197 hp. It's q lot of extra work, headache, and cost for 10 measly hp. It's been done though.

Reading pwns me. tongue.gif In that case, the Greytop has a catalytic converter built into the header, different wiring harness, and has a lame auto AWD trans bolted to it. Those are the only differences. The auto ECU runs just fine with a manual trans and has no ill effects. Replacing the header gets the Greytop up to Redtop specs. The wiring harness is totally different and is best left up to a pro, unless you happen to be good at wiring.

It's just a out and in swap right? There's a guy on Facebook who said u gotta cut and weld the new motor mounts. Don't know if it's true or not. But how much do u charge for the swap mi645?

You only need to weld motor mounts for a V6 swap. The BEAMS uses all of the same GT mounts, and the ST will need holes drilled in the passenger side frame for that mount. There's a little bit of wiring to be done but it's easy to do yourself, then its a direct replacement in a GT.

actually you dont have to modify anything if you get your hands on the GT lines with the reservoir.
