It's funny you mentioned the Legacy. I was looking for one of those as well after the Celica. Never found one that I wanted though. It was either fully loaded, but an auto, or base model with a manual. :\

Start looking around eBay, AutoTrader, CraigsList, etc... to find some in comparable condition to show what it'd cost to replace it. That and go to NADA to get the retail value for it, can go to KBB but they seem to always be off. When my Miata was totaled I was able to get NADA average retail out of them, which was over twice what I paid for it. laugh.gif

Yeah, I understand that but it snows in NC about once a year for a day at most - this year has been a freak one to say the least - so snow tires don't usually make financial sense in these parts. Usually, a set of All-Seasons is about as much as you need but hey, there's exceptions to every rule...

And I feel I should clarify the snow part; it wasn't packed or powdered at all - it was really a mixture of melted snow and still falling snow - almost a slush mixture and that **** is terrible on cold tires. Combined with the fact I was probably the 3rd person to drive through that corner today meant it hadn't been thinned or fully melted. 30 minutes after I crashed the car it was all gone/melted except on the very edges of the road from sunlight and other cars driving over it. So, had I left later in the morning - and not been an idiot on cold tires - I doubt I'd be typing this.

Either way, I appreciate the advice and candor, Mike.



Even all season tires aren't that great in the snow. The difference between the two is that snow tires are very soft and they don't freeze or become hard (amazing grip too). When I had all seasons on one winter, if I parked in some snow or on ice, the tire would freeze and would take forever to warm up.
I know it doesn't make sense financially, but if you can find a set cheap enough, it might be worth the slight investment just in case. It seems like the south is starting to get more snow every year so it's something you might want to consider.
Glad you're alright though.

Definitely agreed, Mike. I'm already planning to purchase some for next winter since this looks to be the new "Winter" trend for us; February snow multiple times in increasing amounts.

Today I went for my first drive since the 1MZ FE swap and I am impressed. Here is a picture of the exhaust tip:



I went with 2 1/2" 409 16 gauge stainless steel tubing:

Insurance has completely totaled it; cost to repair is $3250 and they've valued the car at $3416. I'm not happy with that valuation as it doesn't include any customizations/modifications (which they say won't add value) AND they refuse to let me put the stock parts (tail lights, headlights, etc.) back on to let me keep the "valueless" aftermarket stuff without buying back the car.

I don't know who you are insured with, but it is not your job to find comparable cars. That's just a tactic they use to try to stall time. Guaranteed every single car you send them will not be "comparable." Also, send them receipts for everything. Brigette and I just settled with State Farm earlier this week for an amount that would make your jaw drop. $5,500 is a very fair assessment and if you have 90 days to wait them out, you'll probably get it.

That's bull****, you can take whatever you want off YOUR car before signing the title over. Either way it'd be worth doing the buyback as it was like $500 for my Miata that ended up being a $4900 and some change payoff. Most states if the repair cost exceeds 70-75% of the retail value it's totaled. Which going off NADA and assuming an average of 15,000 miles a year(225,000 total) clean retail is $3,725. Mileage deducted $475, so you could possibly be at least in the low-mid $4,000 range easily. It seems like it'll be how mine was and it'll be in that threshold zone and they'll just want to total it instead of having a body shop fix it and possibly exceed the totaled value, plus doing that you have to sign off on the work in order to close the claim. Of course if they're going by KBB it's much lower, $2,900 with the same mileage. I can't recall what your mileage is though I'm sure it's not that high, but I'm guessing they're going off KBB.

I had a nice outing to my parent's place over my weekend. I love driving to their place since it's quite remote, and the roads are usually empty. I unfortunately missed one of the ferries which led to a fortunate impromptu drive up a local mountain up to the ski resort. Since it's been a mild winter, the resort is shut down, so there were no cars going either up or down the road. They hold an annual hill climb at this location, so I thought I'd take a try to see what it's like. Google told me 20 minutes of regular driving. Yep.

But now that I've gotten back, my front right tire has been bottoming out to the point where it's marking up the sidewall of the tire. It's bad because I can hear it scrape when I hit even the smallest of road bumps.

I'm starting to get frustrated with the car as every time I repair something, another item goes bad. Not exactly sure if it is my spring or struts that are bad, or if I can even find a single replacement strut, or if I need to replace the spring only, or whether I should spend a grand on some BC racing coilovers. All I know is that this repair now takes precedent over my exhaust leak (again), and I still have to replace my CV axle.

Guhhhhh! Tax return needed nowwwwwwwwww!

Today I ordered the full set of decals of the WRC GT-FOUR rally car to complete the finish of my car. Looking forward to see them in the car. I ordered them off Mook and it looks promising. I am finishing the project as I had envisioned it.

My brother recently mounted some Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires he was able to get for $350 shipped for a set of 225/45/18 and 245/45/18 on his Genesis Coupe. Huge improvement in traction and feel over the Bridgestone Potenza sport tires that were on it. Even if the Cooper tires hadn't been on sale like they were they'd be worth it, very impressed.

I swear by general altimax artics for snow tires. Very grippy and controllable in the snow. Never freeze either cause of the soft rubber.
