just wondering if any of you guys had this issue? this past monday i notice my battery light on and off and then constantly on... did a couple readings and the volts coming off the battery (standby) is around 11-12.10 volts. when its running its around 12.7-13.1 volts. check the cables leading from the alternator to the cable and even added 4 gauge cable from the alternator to the battery... problem solved i thought...nope. decided to have oreilly auto parts and pepboys check the alternator... passed with flying colors. so i decided to change the battery (dated november 2011) ... brand new battery and drove it today and notice the light is going on and off... it seems to stay on only in lower rpm range 1000-3000 rpm, but anything after 3500 rpm the light disappears... any thoughts on that?

The voltage regulator is going on it. Mine did the same thing except it would come on after driving upward of 2500rpm. Mine also passed at AutoZone with their tester, but it was indeed going bad. Swapped a different alternator in and the light hasn't come back on.

I had the same problem. Alternator was fine. Turns out the gauge wire bolted on the alternator was turning to ashes. I just ended up replace the alternator and got a new gauge wire.

If the belt isn't loose and the connections are tight it's time for a new alternator, the way it is now is also a good way to kill a battery. You should have 14-14.6V or so at idle, and most new batteries are around 12.6V at rest.

It's time for a new one. lol i just drove my car over there and ask the tech...and he said there is no real way to check a voltage regulator (?????puzzled face?????) thanks...really appreciate the feedback! i wish i can return the battery for a new alternator but they already took the core back... but pepboyz has a good discount online right now for products over 100 dollars less 35 percent... |

yep, sometimes it's just corroded connections or the wire's coming apart.
