Hmm, would using the 4th gen ECU be an option or would that be such a nightmare it wouldn't be worth it?

Hmm, would using the 4th gen ECU be an option or would that be such a nightmare it wouldn't be worth it? I believe most of them are auto which isn't as bad, but it could mess with timing and crap like the auto ECU does on the 1mz swaps This post has been edited by mkernz22: Mar 2, 2015 - 8:10 PM |

Right now with the 3rd gen ecu, I only need to contend with two rogue sensors. Would be a pretty big game changer to run the 4th gen. My buddy mat has a 4th gen swap on his 5 speed becoming a fairly common swap despite the weakness of the dainty rods.

Ahh that's right, Caldina. I like my idea, turn the IACV into an electrically controlled manual choke and call it a day.

Alright guys....here's the scoop.
I've posted on Facebook complaining about the issue I was having, where the vehicle would start and idle fine and then begin to run ridiculously lean.... I've since fixed this. In the process of diagnosing I re-installed my 3rd gen manifold etc.... After reinstalling the factory manifold I still had the same problem, which led me to ordering a new fuel pump sock (it was blackened), and the car would barely run on the old gas in the tank, which I have replaced with fresh gas. Turns out none of these things were my problem at all, but I've also decided not to put the 4th gen manifold back on, and to just run the 3rd gen manifold. Meaning I was successfully able to adapt the 4th gen manifold. These are my reasons for leaving the factory manifold. 4th gen ISCV DOES NOT ADAPT. Don't bother trying, you will get crazy symptoms. If you have a stand alone that can convert to pulse width modulation be my guest. 4th gen TPS will work, but you have to reverse the pinouts for VC AND E2! My TRD 3 point bar will not fit with the 4th gen manifold. You have to make a custom throttle cable bracket on the 4th gen (which I did). The 4th gen doesn't play well with the 3rd gen fuel rail, you have to clock the fuel pressure regulator, and make a new return line. Since the IACV goes bonkers, you will have terrible idle quality, and be forced to hit the gas and brakes at the same time in many cases to keep the car from shutting off, which could be a potential safety risk. So I'm putting my tail between my legs, and have reverted to the 3rd gen manifold feeling both successful, and aggravated. Here's some pictures. Here is one dirty fuel pump sock. Here is a picture of the hot side pipe...if you weren't aware already...that's my Dad. Here is a picture of the hot side pipe installed. Here you can see the turbo clocked down where it connects to the hot pipe. Here is a picture where the pipe hangs down slightly. -------------------- |

It was nice of that badass sea captain to lend you a hand. I don't think there's any shame in going back to the third gen manifold, you found the issues of trying to use the fourth gen and got it to work for the most part. Plus this way it'll be quicker getting it back onto the road, so I say you made the right choice.

How's the quality on that bad boy? Which one did you get? Haha! Yup it's a treadstone! I see them as a kind of up and coming company that is reasonably priced now, but will experience a price spike once popularity increases. Great price, hand welded, and good quality. It's a heavy sucker. Its 4 inches wide, but I don't remember which model it is. -------------------- |

Bery nice! I'm considering getting one for the Poopra since they're anywhere from $300-$400 for a core and piece together the rest of my IC kit, or just wait til Black Friday later this year for ETS to have their sale and top it off with my friend's military discount. lol

Thanks Dustin!
Another quick update. Today I hooked up the waste gate, fab'd up my turbo intake, fixed my fan wiring issue (i'm not running A/C), installed the passenger side fender, re-located the line for my catch can, and re-installed my fuel line. Here's some pic's and a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMT8rZzwM_Y -------------------- |

A car without A/C is useless above 70º though. I'd be the one person using their A/C on a track day, I don't need those few extra tenths of a second that bad.
