So the problem is, when i turn on my AC is only stays for about 3 seconds and then it just shuts off. I can feel it blowing cold air and I just replaced the AC relay, so could it be a problem with the compressor or some kind of sensor??

Forgot to mention that the light also blinks off and on before it shuts down.

Any help is appreciated!

Low pressure cut off switch. It means you're low on refrigerant.
There is also a sight glass on top of the filter/dryer(small cylinder near bottom left of radiator).
When you're charged up good you won't see any bubbling in the sight glass.

Is there any other problem you can think of because I had it recharged and checked for leaks last week??

I'd call the place you had it done and explain what's going on. They should offer to take care of it.

It could even be overcharged and the high pressure cut out, especially if there's a blockage in the system like a plugged orifice tube.

Is the AC button blinking after it shuts off?

Well it was professionally recharged but is there a way to let pressure out without letting out all the gas?

It would be best to actually have some gages to measure the refrigerant pressure before you just let any out. If you were to release some the best way is to open the valve and release it from the high side port in the front of the car. But you need a set of refrigerant gages to do that.
And really imo there are lots of "professional " shops who still don't know how to do the AC right.
Or better still they figured they'd not do it right so you'd have to come back and spend some more money.
I freakn hate dumb****s like that.

Ok after looking at the thread I would probably just have a shop do it looks pretty complicated and i dont have the tool for it either.

My guess it would be more related to the AC compressor

I was looking behind the glove box and i found that this plug is not plugged in. It this the problem that I'm running into. If it is I can't find the plug that is supposed to be there.

I'd recommend trying to find somebody you can trust to look at it and at least figure out what's wrong with it for sure.
Without actually being there it is hard to really know for sure. I don't think you want to just go out and buy a new compressor just yet.

Yeah don't buy the compressor until the problem is professionally diaganosed. You should take it to a shop and have them look at it first before you decide to buy anything.

I was taking out the ac compressor and I found this sensor on it, but I don't know what it's for. Does anyone know??



And would anyone know the part number for this?

do you guys happen to know how much refrigerant our cars should take because I had the system drained today by the same shop that put it in and he said he only pulled out like 1 pound, which sounds like a really low number.

24 oz. - about a pound and a half. That switch on the compressor is probably just the switch that signals the clutch to engage. I think if that was your problem the compressor wouldn't even turn on at all. But I'm not sure exactly what to call it and they don't have it listed on Rockauto so I'd guess you'd have to get one from Toyota.

ok so if the guy only pulled out 1 pound, it could be that he didn't put enough in, in the first place? Would being low by 8 pounds cause the AC to just shut off since its so low on pressure?

ok so it isn't a low pressure problem because I had the shop put in the roughly 24oz (or so he says) and it still cuts off and the light still blinks after turning off. Also is there a difference in the AC system from the 5sfe and the 3sge Red Top?
