how bad is the damage? like completely totalled?

Insurance has completely totaled it; cost to repair is $3250 and they've valued the car at $3416. I'm not happy with that valuation as it doesn't include any customizations/modifications (which they say won't add value) AND they refuse to let me put the stock parts (tail lights, headlights, etc.) back on to let me keep the "valueless" aftermarket stuff without buying back the car.

I have sent them a list of comparable 99 Celica liftbacks to see if that will get them to raise the value before I make a counter-offer for $5500; if not, I'll be seeking arbitration/mediation.

Alright, update time!

Soooo, Geico isn't the most fun to negotiate value or vehicle worth with when you're at fault - they budged but not too much. All in all, I was able to pull the vast majority of my parts (tails, what's left of the projector set, header, sunroof deflector, and SS-III grille) off of the car without having to buy it back before the final valuation of around $3000 dollars after deductible. The back and forth about the value, parts, and check signing took about a month - I finalized everything yesterday.

In the meantime, I'd been looking for a replacement '99 since that's what I had and that's what I wanted; went to Greenville, SC about 2 weeks ago and test drove a black GT w/ black leather interior but it was in bad condition (every body panel had dents or clear coat missing) AND it was low on oil. How and why do you try and sell a car that's low on oil?! After that bust, found a 3L2 GT in Richmond, VA that seemed to be a good option; ~147,000 miles, tan cloth, 2-owner (with the seller having bought it in 2000 w/ 15k miles!), and mechanic maintained. Drove the 4 hours to look at it this past Saturday, test-drove and had it multi-point inspected at a local Toyota dealership, and negotiated a fair price for it. Bought it Sunday and drove the 4 hours home with no problems - it's smooth, engine idles with little to no vibration, and the auto tranny shifts smoothly. Not a bad replacement.

Yesterday, I bought Suzuka back from Geico for $275 dollars. Today, she was delivered to my apartment complex. The next steps will be to swap over the little bits and bobs the old car has that the new one doesn't (Toyota RS3000 system - I may need help with this one guys so expect a thread, clear courtesy door lens, clear sides, leather seats) and then to assess just how bad the damage is - from what I can see the rear passenger strut is bent, passenger fender, hood, and front bumper need complete replacement, and new wheels. So, I'll be taking my time to check it out and keep it covered (so that the complex management doesn't kick her - and me - out). Also, bought a replacement low beam projector from eBay that should be arriving today or tomorrow so the new car's front end will look a bit better in less than a month.

No 3L2 99 manuals; I was going to look at a black 99 5spd here in Charlotte but it sold while I was out of town. The nearest 99 5spd after that was in Marietta.

I think you actually meant BUY 3-4 cars like you do, Box. tongue.gif

Seriously though, that would have meant driving my wife's Yaris for 3-4 months and no thanks! 3 weeks was already too long to be behind the wheel of that car...

I forgot where you already had an auto. I don't see how you do it, I couldn't imagine having 135 horsepower with an automatic. 400 horsepower with an automatic is bad enough.

The trick is to remember it's only 135 horsepower in 5 speed or auto and both are technically slow.

For the amount of driving I do - 3 miles one way - the auto isn't a big deal although when I finally buy a new new car it'll be a stick shift.

I don't do much driving either, which I guess is why it's more a nuisance. If most of my driving was going down the interstate not shifting anyway I suppose it really wouldn't matter, but it's mostly around town driving for me. I think 250-300 horsepower and a manual I'd be content.

Haha, different strokes I guess because most of the time I enjoy and have fun in my automatic.

So I gather you're doing an engine and tranny swap? 3S-GTE plus S54?

Well, aside from the work of doing the swap anyway. tongue.gif Swapping an engine without computers is enough of a pain.

Yeah it's going to be the challenge. I'm worried about it to be honest. If all else fails I can take it to ATS Racing or that place in Houston.
