Didn't get much time to mess with it today since went over and visited father for father's day, but did manage to get the filter changed out. I finally figured out why the fluid was getting dirty so quick, found pieces of friction material this time in the pan. It's not the o.e. type material (it's black with graphite) so it was rebuilt, they just didn't space the friction discs enough so it's just going to shred itself apart... The Dacron filter was already filled up with trash. Topped it off anyway and it'd actually lurch again when placed into gear and take off without revving it too much, pretty much how it was before. Knowing what's happening though the transmission probably won't last long at all so I don't even know what to do anymore. Find a rebuilt auto and put it in? Any car you buy is going to have problems. Sometimes it's best just to fix what you've got. You either need to fix what you have or decide what it is you really want. -------------------- |

I'm not paying to have the automatic rebuilt or buying another automatic, we obviously see the quality of work of some of the shops around here... Either will figure out some way of doing a manual conversion or I'll just sell it. Probably should just sell it seeing it needs a small fortune to get the A/C working again. Sell the Miata, then sell it and start the Hell over.

Ending up lifting the rear and letting it roll in drive with the dipstick out to let air out for about 15 minutes and the level dropped a little once it was back down in park, it's just as good if not a little better than when this whole fiasco started but knowing the friction discs are just going to continue to wear down I'm on borrowed time. With it in the air in neutral it would start to move, so they're definitely clearanced too tight but you could grab the wheel and stop it easily. On the ground there's no issues with it trying to creep in neutral. The important thing being it does drive again, for now.

Transmission guy says it might be fine now and that it was the filter all along. Said if the fluid is clear and not burnt and the pan isn't full of metal and friction it should be fine. He also said the wheels starting to move some in neutral with the drive wheels off the ground was also normal in an automatic. I guess I'll just drive it as is for now and keep a close eye on things and stick to short trips for now just in case it does start to give out I can make it back home.

Today I ordered spark plugs for the porsche. Going to order the wires after payday and probably some gearbox fluid too. I think a little tune up will do it some good.

Thanks for the recommendation but I think I'm going to use Red Line 75W90, it's what pelican has on the site as recommended for my car. I do use brad penn as my motor oil in it though.

They didn't have fancy synthetics back in the day. It's what I used in the Celica and it worked well.

Yesterday I washed, waxed and detailed the Subaru. It's amazing how much of a difference s good waxing makes.

Indeed it does. Soap itself can make a pretty big difference, brother bought some Chemical Guys brand soap off Amazon and the paint is certainly glossier after using it.
Transmission cooler lines on the Firebird are apparently leaking now and causing issues, not only letting fluid out but it's letting the torque converter empty out and I pretty much have to do a rolling burnout two or three time for drive to start working normally. Ugh, I thought this nightmare was over. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I've decided I want a 1965 Piaggio Vespa SS 180, for those that get the reference I have a newfound respect for you.

Even the Japanese have their moments, one word: 3000GT Which that's really a number with two letters compounded together to make a name, but anyway. Bar none the biggest piece of crap I ever owned and it was Mitsubishi's flagship made in Japan. I'm not even sure what I'd get as I've pretty much had every car that interests me, that I can afford anyway. If a bar of gold wants to land through the windshield of the Firebird then I could get a C5 Vette or MKIV Supra, or even a M3 GTR since I could afford any maintenance issues with said bar of gold.
I am halfway tempted to say **** it while doing a rollout to the end of the yard and throw a for sale sign on the damn thing and just get it over with. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Seent this happened over the weekend... You've learned to speak Murrkan! That guy looks miserable. Today, I left on a road trip to Colorado. Gonna take on the Rockies with my V8 4Runner. I pity the mountain that thinks it can conquer my 4Runner. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. I think he made it safely through the night. Somehow.
I decided that since we aren't taking the fun cars to Colorado, and I still want to experience Pikes Peak but I'm in the 4Runner, I had better take the scenic route. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates.
