In a pinch what is the quickest way to open your fuel door when the lever mechanism isn't working? Don't say use a crowbar... I don't have many tools on hand as it is.

if the lever isn't working, then the cable should still unlatch it. just pop your door sills off and find the cable and yank on it.

Orrrr your spring type thing in your gas tank lid could be broken. Happened on my Camry... Just prop the gas leaver up with something and push on the edge of the hindges of your tank lid and see if it opens. If it does than the spring thing is your issue.

This is more likely the issue unless you heard something break as you pulled it. You can use a small binder clip until you get a replacement spring

Can't remember exactly how the door works on the Celica but you should be able to slide in something like a credit card, screwdriver, or knife to push down the plunger and pull the door open.

thats what I do. the spring on mine is wore out. and when i say spring, its really a metal tab. so i stick the credit card in the door, pull the handle and it pops open.

Those little springs cost like $12 from Toyota I think, they're not expensive. Honestly you can make one yourself out of an old brake clip with a pair of pliers, I've done that for customers with other kinds of cars out of kindness.
