As long as it's not one of those FWD Caddies. NorthStar... Actually the '70 Eldorado would be the exception. 500 cubes in FWD layout, to this day it's still the most powerful factory FWD car. I'd hate to know how much torque steer there is though... Probably all it does, but that's ok. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Could always sell the hood and breather and use that money to fix the trans. Then it'd have no hood. I have the money to personally rebuild or replace the transmission, it's just the issue of having no way of doing it. Moved it to the front of the yard with sign and info, so we'll see. As many people that had stopped and asked when I first got it surely someone will want it enough to where I don't completely lose my ass on it. Really I just wish I never had bought it at this point. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

You have your old hood don't you? Use the money you make from the sale so you can have someone rebuild the trans for you. -------------------- |

I traded hoods with someone local. A rebuilt TH350 is anywhere from $450-600, used ones claimed to be in good working order go for $200 give or take. The problem is getting transmissions in and out of it. To pay someone to do all of that would just be a stupid amount of money. What's sad is with another transmission on standby along with a lift and trans jack it'd probably take all of two hours to get it up and running again.

Buy a cheap one have it done and sell the car running and driving, or sell it for less as is and try to break even. Sounds like you need to get rid of it and get something else. Get an sc400 or another luxury car and deal with an auto. -------------------- |

It'd make more sense just to take a loss on it than to spend a grand or so hoping to get what I'm asking currently. Beginning to wonder if I'd be better off parting it out or something. That or I should win one of those t.v. restoration shows.
I rather have a tiny sports car with a manual that brings me to tears every time I drive it though. That's ok on the bad days I can't drive regardless of the transmission anyway. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

List it on some forums and try to sell it.

I tried the T/A forum and then they're the ones that told me it as a COMPLETE car was only worth $1,500.... The damn motor is worth that... I might try NastyZ28 since obviously they have more love for Chevy motors. Selling it to break even I'll need a little under $3,000 and I have it in the yard at $3,500 OBO. If someone I knew wanted it I'd take a loss. It's bad enough I have to sell it, don't want to have to lose my ass on it too. The reason I bought it was because of the fibro, it was an automatic I could live with since I'd always wanted a second gen and the factory 4-speed I couldn't handle the clutch anyway. The only reason I bought it was because the motor and transmission had been redone, so I thought anything that popped up would be small stuff and I planned on doing things like interior and paint anyway. Well of course my luck the trans rebuilder was a ditz and it fell apart after a few hundred miles... Also at the time the owner was like, all it needs is a compressor for the A/C to work again which ended up not true. Will need a new blower motor and the entire system redone since he didn't seal off the A/C system so it's all junk now...
I don't know what to replace it with. Deep down I know I need something more comfortable and probably an auto, but there's not really any cars I like that fit that description. The '68 Coupe DeVille really would be it, or maybe some other classic car like a Riviera or Thunderbird. Otherwise I rather have a newer sports car with a manual. The SC300 with the 5-speed would probably be the best compromise but they're so rare with only 3,800 made. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Just get an auto sc300 or 400. Give up on the manual idea.

Just remembered there's a small shop down the road, even has a lift. I went there once for wheel studs on the 3000GT and tires and the price was very fair. Wonder if he's still around and how much he'd charge just to do a direct replacement. So far haven't gotten anyone stopping to look at the car, but the weather has been bleh as well.

Just do something.
Fix it and drive it Fix it and sell it Don't fix it and sell it Pick one. You may have to take a loss on it but it'll be done. Just do something, you're not getting anything done by just sitting here and talking to yourself. I know it can be tough sometimes to decided but you go to do what you got to do. -------------------- |

Well I've been trying to sell it as it sits but apparently no one is seriously interested. Should've moved it to the front of the yard the same time started eBay, but oh well... It still just pisses me off and is exactly why I hate automatics.

Ahg the bane that is Craigslist... Had a father and son stop and look at it apparently while I was busy dying and said they'd come back to check it out more. Speaking of Craigslist I was searching earlier and I have no clue where the T/A forum thinks $1,500 is remotely close to being right. There are cars that're literal junk and don't even run for $2,000. To get a nice runner is $8,000+ and mine was a decent driver until the trans **** the bed. Still good body, newly rebuilt high power motor, and decent interior. I see others cars in the same range I'm asking that need body work etc... and still have the original worn out motor.
Anyway, that MR2 was updated a few days ago so I hope someone will buy the Firebird before it gets sold. Also had another thought, if I could find a Z32 300ZX with a recent timing job that would work out being I drive so little. Has enough shoulder room and being a grand touring/luxury sports car it should ride well. I'd get tired of the car before 60K miles would happen. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Box, I know you won't listen to someone who got in an internet fight with you but I would strongly advise reading this. It may be a kick in the pants you need.
Why not find a job that you can do, sell the car (prob at a loss) and get a car that is cheap and works on getting you A to B (hopefully B is a job of some sort) and save for a project or car that will make you happy? You make it seem like you have no choice to get a job, and you are set that by some miracle, someone will come by and be dumb enough to buy a car that is not working from you at a profit to you. I think its time to swallow the hard pill and realize that project cars are rarely sold for a profit. You bought a car that didn't work out for you, time to cut the cord and get your life back on track, even if that means finding a car that isn't your style but is good for your health and reliable enough to get you to a job. Honestly, this thread has turned into a place for you to complain rather than people updating what their non-6gc cars progress. Please make a decision and make a change, instead of venting and complaining to an online forum. To make this post on topic of the thread: The S2000 has a misfire at idle that I am hoping a valve adjustment will fix. Here's to hoping its not something bigger! Since we're trying to get this thread back on track.... Pretty sure my OBS needs shifter bushings. Not sure if I should just replace the bushings or just replace the bushings and put in a short throw shifter.

Not sure if I should just replace the bushings or just replace the bushings and put in a short throw shifter. always a good excuse to upgrade! I am afraid that my misfire is the sign of something big. Later this month I will be doing a valve adjustment and small tune-up. (sea-foam, plugs, oil change) It could also be my TPS which is intergraded to my throttle body. If its not one of those fixes, the s2000 will be going to a shop where I am afraid it may be an engine rebuild. Here's to hoping its something small! -------------------- 2015 Subaru WRX. I'll probably go with a cobb one if I do. And hopefully it's something small. Do you have any engine codes or anything -------------------- |
