It would be for daily driver use, seems to be in really good shape for the age and price though. The trailer hitch on the back cracks me up. tongue.gif Guess it won't hurt to call and see it, but part of me questions how sensible it would be. Sure it's a Toyota so the quality and inherent reliability is there, but it's still 39 years old.

laugh.gif yeah mine had a trailer hitch too. I mean it does have a truck engine. hahaha.
this does look in really good condition. seems like original paint and everything. hope it runs as good as it looks. if anything just needs a carb rebuild or upgrade and be good to go.

We all see what happened with the Firebird, though the Celica is probably at least ten times more reliable. tongue.gif Was reading up on them and doing some research and really nothing to speak of outside of age related crap that happens to any car. I hope the air conditioning works.

At the moment, no fancy lighting on the car until she's up and running. The only "fancy" thing I'll be doing is wiring the sidemarker to double as a turn signal as well to give the bubble it's original purpose. LEDs are planned though for later on down the road.

The side marker as turn signal only works if the bulbs are incandescent. That's why I had to get the module to run mine since I'm all LED. Only filament bulbs left in my car are in the high beams, ash tray, HVAC panel back light, and shifter ligthing.

I guess I'll call on it this afternoon, it's been awhile since I thought about getting one so I wanted to refresh myself with them before calling. That and it'd be this weekend before could go and see it anyway as it's a little over 60 miles in one direction. After looking at the pictures for the twentieth time it looks like the driverside front of the hood is bubbling and the tops of the rear seat have split and peeled, but outside of that still looks to be in good shape all things considered. My only concern age aside is that they're so abysmally slow in stock USDM trim, they make the 6th gen ST look fast. tongue.gif

That is a price that is the lowest ive seen for that condition. That is a steal. Those engines are robust. And you will fand parts galore in the fist gen celica commmunity

You know where to look for rot right? Inside the trunk they'll rust so bad near the strut towers and wheel arches....the struts will fall out!

they're light cars so it'll feel fast. hahaha.
all i can say is, it looks to have a black dash that is uncracked. that's like a unicorn if it's original.

yeah and to add to the rot spots, there is the spare tire area, windshield trim area, and under the hatch by the seals. just look at pics of mine or Noberto's.

Ye I was going to check all the usual old car spots; trunk pan and tire well, floor pans, cowl, around any glass and rubber seals, etc...

Which I'm calling right now, hopefully can set something set up but it'll be this weekend before I could get someone to drive me there and if it checks out buy it on the spot and drive it home.

Would be more exciting if I could get ahold of him. When I called earlier his wife, I'm guessing, answered the phone and said he was at the store and to call back in an hour or two. So called again later like told and apparently just missed him and he took the grandkid somewhere for something another. I asked for her to tell him to call me back when he could, gave number and have been waiting since. If everything checks out ok I'm not even going to bother negotiating, then again I never do, and be like TAKE MY MONEY.

And if you aren't crazy about that engine I think the later 22RE and RE-T are swappable?

One would think a 22R would be a direct swap being in the same engine family and right next to each other chronologically. Even then the 22R-E makes 114 hp and 140 ft lbs, a gain of 19 hp and 18 ft lbs over the 20R and would involve putting in a computer along with all the sensors and wiring needed. Probably would be better off using the 20R head on a 22R block and then putting in a different cam and possibly change out the carb.

Was trying to research into it some last night and the sky is the limit for the most part, but I'd want to do something that's relatively straightforward and wouldn't require tons of fabrication. Best case scenario the engine bolts up to the car's transmission then I don't have to bother with trans mount, driveshaft shortening, or trying to figure out how to get the speedometer working again.

20r head on a 22r block + cam + weber carb + header = good to go.

Well no wonder, went to check listing and it's been removed... **** me sideways.

I do want to call and ask if they got their asking price and if the answer is "No" I want to be like, "Well that's why you talk with all interested parties at first because I was going to give it had the car checked out as described."

That's ok, really need something newer anyway.
