I'd purge all the old Dexcool and refill with their new formulation of it, it's actually a decent coolant now.

What's in there now is fairly new as it's vibrant orange and I double checked with a tester right after I bought it. I'll do a mild flush then use new Dex-Cool and distilled water then.

Bought a set of black lug nuts as I hate the locking lug nuts, and the stock lugs have an external thread for a black plastic cap to go on effectively doubling the time it takes to take off and put on the lug nuts.

Took my 914 out Saturday for a drive. A nice gentleman in a c6 vette pulled me over to talk to me about the car. There's something about that little car that people just love. I've been pulled over twice in it by car folks who want to talk about it. That car does make me sad since I know how much it needs but whenever I drive it I remember why I bought it.

Bittersweet, sold the 4runner last night, now time to fund the mr2. The slave cyclinder still hasnt came in yet. Still debating if i should just throw a new clutch, throwout bearing and pressure plate in it just for peace of mind.

Probably not a bad idea.

I feel the same way about the Firebird. tongue.gif Actually dashboard aside it's a nice car and fairly well made, it's the happiest I've been with a car overall since the Celica. One of these days I'll get another Miata, Celica, or the like since they're fun to drive in their own way.

If it's a car you plan to keep I'd say go ahead and throw in an Exedy O.E. replacement clutch, or the brand of your preference. Especially if you think it might be on its way out.

Glad you found a car you actually like. Hopefully you'll stick with it.

Thanks, I plan to keep it forever as it's exactly how I'd have ordered one and have wanted one for some time now. Interior quirks and solid axle aside it has everything I want in a car. After getting used to the size it actually drives and feels like a smaller car than what it is, like it's lighter on its feet and more responsive than you'd expect. It's funny how much a difference the 6-speed makes though, it's a shame more didn't come with one as it's way more fun than my father's Z28 ever was. After finishing up all the preventive maintenance I look forward to doing more fun stuff like the exhaust and suspension.

I plan on keeping the car for the long haul, I just want it in running order for this season. A guy local is selling his complete set up from his mr2 thats wrecked, so it will be 3s swapped sometime in the winter as a little project. Just basically plug and play, moving one thing from on car to the other biggrin.gif

The MR2 bug has bitten and is not letting go. tongue.gif I still would like a SW20 MR2, had I sold my '79 Firebird sooner it's very likely that's what I'd have now as I came across a nice white one a month or two earlier. That's ok I guess everything happens for a reason.

Eh I like the mr2 but I don't really want one. If I want another convertible type car it has to be an s2000 in white with red interior.

Ye it'd have to be a hardtop or at worst a moonroof car, I don't even want T-tops on my F-body much less any other car. tongue.gif The S2000 is another car I'd like to try one of these days. This must be why most car people limit themselves to one country of origin or even a single brand, it's too much of a hassle liking most everything. tongue.gif

Today my Camry wouldn't start. All lights and radio work but won't start. no clicking or anything. Tried boosting it, tried cleaning off and retightening the battery terminals but still nothing. As soon as I turn the key and while it's turned the radio shuts off. Any ideas?

Wow, I'm a dumbass. It was the fob for the immobilizer that broke open and was missing the piece inside. Had to go through the garbage and find the piece and now it's working fine.

Of course not, even it had dreaded T-tops for that price can't really complain too much. I actually like moonroofs so long as they're done well, i.e. I can't tell it's there when it's closed since it's not leaking and rattling. The moonroof on the Celica was done well, so I'd expect the same out of the MR2. It's just with T-tops and targa tops they take out a fair amount of structural rigidity and as if that weren't enough they're a pain to take out and put back in, and they always end up leaking and rattling.

At least it was something easy though and it's working again.

Lug nuts arrived and swapped them out one at a time. Yay no more locking lug nuts or screw-on plastic covers, that and they look better since they're shorter and thinner. For laughs I weighed both and the factory lug nut and cover weighed in at 2.2 ounces while the new lug nut weighed in at 1.6 ounces, so for all 20 a grand total of 12 ounces was removed from the car. tongue.gif Man if only I had sprung for the titanium nuts over the forged steel I could've saved over a pound. laugh.gif No I'm not one of THOSE people.

Looks like a rack at the shop will be open this weekend so hopefully this Saturday I'm changing out all the fluids and getting the new pads on. Then that leaves doing the water pump and may the gods have mercy on my soul, the spark plugs and wires. Then I can do fun stuff like finally redoing the exhaust from the axle back.

Washed 1/2 the garage floor with some no scrub bathroom and shower cleaner, just sprayed it all over the floor, gave it a little push broom scrub, then hot water and a squeegee to clean it up and push it out the door, that side is clean enough to eat off of!
