I need to start thinking about replacing the oem stereo and speakers in my 95 Celica. Everything is stock original as far as I know, and amazed it has lasted this long, but it's slowly failing. I have looked for the answer in other sites, but nothing concrete about speaker sizes needed and head unit/shelf options. Mine has the sub, and mid in the door with the mini tweet below the mirror. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

8" sub, 4" mid-driver, and 1" tweeter all in the doors and then the quarter panel speakers are 6.5" mid-drivers. Sites like www.sonicelectronix.com or www.crutchfield.com can help with finding what's in your needed size, resistance, and price range. Then you can cross shop on eBay and Amazon etc... for the best prices. You can put in a single or double DIN stereo, but with a single DIN you'll need a cover plate or storage pocket to fill out the space. There are a million and one ways to go about it, just really depends on how much you want to spend and how high of a quality sound you want.

I'm fairly sure the bottom speaker is 6.5" too, but an 8 can fit with modification. Speakers are personal preference since so many are available. To power them, look for a receiver with high RMS wattage. 4 channels @ 50w doesn't mean anything as it's mostly a theoretical max output. RMS wattage is the steady capacity that the head unit amp can produce, and that is what really powers your speakers. Lower end brands do 14w RMS, best is 22. I like Kenwood.

Use Crutchfield.com to configure a setup. Then buy cheaper elsewhere.

Most top brands are 17-22W RMS these days per channel, but really I'd look more towards a head unit with 6 channel RCA output so then you can properly power everything and you get more flexibility. Most component speaker sets are in the 60-100W RMS range, and most woofers you'd want to use are in the 200-300W RMS range. I was thinking they were 8's in the bottom but they very well could be 6.5" too, maybe it's just because everyone goes to 8" is why I'm thinking that. Either way brands are mostly preference, but in my opinion you should go with someone like Pioneer, Infinity, Sony, Kenwood, etc... and stay away from brands like PYLE, BOSS, DUAL, etc...

I put JBL GTO components up front (6.5) and GTO coaxials in the back. I wanted to put 8s up front because the are a direct fit but unless it's a matched set with a crossover and tweeter, you risk big disappointment in the sound. Properly installed and with door treatments, you CAN get very good midbass from a 6.5 driver in the doors.

The rear is another story. Its more involved to attempt to get bass from drivers installed there in a stock manner. Since I didn't need to rely upon them for any kind of bass response, I crossed them over relatively high. (160hz+)

And yes, the tweets from the separates will fit in the stock locations!
